Why I Gave Up Dairy...

Yep, that's right...this cheese loving woman gave up DAIRY! Not forever though, don't you worry! Part of my Beyond the Body Boot Camp is that I challenge my ladies to give up dairy for our 4 weeks together. 

"But Why?" you ask. 

Dairy can affect our body in so many ways. From gut issues like gas and bloating, to skin issues. It's a food that a lot of us may have sensitivities to, or might even be totally intolerant without fully realizing it. 

My friend Jasmin Niemiec from Coach Jasmin says it this way.

"A MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN AMERICA HAVE GROWN UP ON BREADS AND MILK, SO WE HAVE GOTTEN USED TO FEELING BLOATED OR HAVING AN UPSET STOMACH AND NEVER KNEW TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT."

Plus, in other studies I've done, specifically the Virgin Diet by JJ Virgin, she talks a lot about this. So I decided it was time to test the waters. I encourage anyone that often times feels bloated, or has an upset stomach to try giving it up for a little while. Then, after the body has detoxed from dairy for a while, slowly add it back in and see if your body reacts to it. If it does, that doesn't mean you are intolerant, you just might have a sensitivity to it. Go a little longer without it, 3-6 months. Then slowly add it back in and test your body yet again. (This is a great thing to do with gluten as well). 

Over the past month or more I have been eating so much cheese. Daily for lunch I had cheese. I love it! I love going to a winery and getting the cheese platters. My favorite lunch to make is a fancy, adult-style lunchable. (with the good aka real cheese and meat) And I have noticed that the little bumps my family tends to have on our arms were coming in full force. After just a week and a half off of dairy, those bumps are slowly going away, which I am thrilled about!

If you decide you want to try going dairy free, here's a few places to watch for dairy: 

  • yogurt
  • cream cheese
  • sour cream
  • ice cream
  • whey protein/bars with whey in it
  • cottage cheese
  • dressings
  • creamy soups and sauces
  • desserts
