Who doesn't love the Fall season! There are so many things to love!

FALL in love with Prana

Making Life Easier For Mom!

Whether you are a working mom, a stay at home mom, or a work from home mom....we all have a lot of work to get done, and let's admit it. With the standards and expectations of taking care of what seems like everything and everyone, our jobs are hard! 

That's why today I'm going to share my TOP 2 secrets with you on how I get things done, plus keep up with one of my main mom duties! 

Let's start with GETTING THINGS DONE!

i work from home, and my kids are with me all day. That means I'm juggling time on the computer and phone doing business stuff, with playing outside, making snacks, holding my sweet new baby, and keeping the house generally clean. All the while making sure our TV isn't on all day because lets admit it, it can be so easy to do that when you need to get stuff done.

So one way I've been able to up my productivity, enjoy some personal/business development, or talk on the phone while doing these things, is by using my new Trek Titanium Pink Headphones from AfterShokz. They are seriously amazing, plus so cute!

Now let's talk about one of the MAIN MOM DUTIES we all have and how I've made getting it done easier! 

COOKING! 

Yep! It's something we are all expected to do right. Whether it's getting breakfast for the kids, or school lunches packed, or that expectation to have a good healthy dinner made for the family so that you are saving your bodies and your wallets from all the fast food that is so tempting to get on a nightly basis! 

Well I feel like I have finally found a system that really helps my family be productive! 

Meal prepping! I meal prep just about everything I can! From breakfast egg muffins, smoothie packs frozen and ready for the blender, to chopped veggies to easily make fresh guac at lunch, and even my freezer meals that I can toss in the crock pot. Anything and everything I can meal prep to make my life easier, I DO IT!

Protecting the Gut May Help With Fat Loss

First off...let's talk about how unattractive the word GUT is. It's probably the least sexy word out there especially when referencing a body part. So when you say you have a bad gut....which many people do, it's really unappealing. 

Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about how a bad gut affects your body, fat storage, and how to get a GOOD GUT! 

"[Our] gut flora promotes normal gastrointestinal function, provides protection from infection, regulates metabolism and comprises more than 75% of our immune system."    -Chris Kesser

The gut is home to lots of bacteria, but not all bacteria is bad. In fact, we need a good balance of good and bad, but due to a lot of foods we eat, and medicines we take, many people are walking around with bad gut health, which causes many of the issues they may be having, including fat storage.  

Obviously we know that sugar isn't good for us, yet it is in so many of our foods. Plus, sugar helps to increase the bad bacteria found in our gut, and because of the overuse of sugar, many people are walking around with leaky gut. 

Sugar feeds bad bacteria (which is what we have too much of when we have an unhealthy gut flora), which causes your body to take in more calories from the food you eat, and store them as fat, plus create digestive problems, gas, and bloating! 

Chris Kesser also says that..."Nearly every patient [he] treats with a blood sugar issue also has a leaky gut, a gut infection, or some other chronic inflammatory gut condition." That's because the health of your gut determines how the body stores the food that you eat, how easy it is for you to lose weight, and your metabolism.

 

Signs you have too much BAD BACTERIA IN YOUR GUT: 

The key thing with gut bacteria is making sure that we have the right amount of good bacteria when our body needs it. That's why we need to focus on supporting our gut's immune system and promoting good bacteria and at the same time keeping the bad bacteria back. 

One of the best ways to do this is, along with eating whole, non-processed foods, is by taking a probiotc supplement. These are made specifically for supporting the gut and good bacteria to aid in healthy digestion. Especially if you take a lot or have gone through a period where you have been on antibiotics. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria, so you always want to follow up any antibiotic treatment with probiotics. You also have to be aware of foods these days that have antibiotics in them. (Dairy for example), so taking a daily probiotic to promote a healthy gut is a great idea! 

If you are ready to take the steps to make your gut as sexy as possible....then you definitely want to find a great pre/probiotic! I love using the Silver Fern Brand version. All of their products are made from clean ingredients, and I have already felt better since taking them!

We had friends over for dinner recently and decided on breakfast! Well with my first trimester kicking me in the tale, I didn't feel like cooking at all! Breakfast On My Mind! + A GIVEAWAY

Well one thing I just can't get enough of during these first week's of pregnancy......BREAKFAST!  That's right, I've got Breakfast on my mind!

I'm still a sucker for any breakfast food with blueberries in it! Like my yummy Sugar Free Blueberry Waffles!!! Get the original recipe here! Now these have been a go-to favorite for my family since I went fully sugar free in January, but this past week I decided to add something different to the recipe to make it even better! 

Through being a Sweat Pink Ambassador with Fit Approach, I was sent two bottles of yummy Mighty Nut powdered peanut butter! In the past I've mostly enjoyed using powdered peanut butter in my smoothies, but sadly since becoming pregnant I have not had a smoothie. (I usually have at least one a day as a meal replacement).

How I #LiveInPrana Even on Vacation!

Yep, I made it back from vacation! We had a blast! Let me just say it's super fun to stay kind of local (about 4 hours from our home) and explore the state/area that you live in for all it's worth! We stayed about 50minutes from two major cities, Austin & San Antonio, Texas, and we got to enjoy those, plus so many more throughout our week.  One things for sure, my Prana clothes got me through the entire week!

We started our vacation by spending a night in Waco, Texas. We got to see the Fixer Upper's store (from HGTV), plus explore some fun around the city. And let me just say these Meme pants are my absolute favorite! I'll be honest, when I first got these I wasn't sure about the Cargo pockets on the side, but they are my fave! They add a uniqueness to the skinny jean! The fabric that these pants are made out of are incredible, and they are flexible and easy to move in! I can easily go from dressed up, to cute and casual, to all out hiking or handstanding all in the same pants!

Once we got to Austin, I had to take advantage of the FREE YOGA DAY! So I grabbed my husband for a Vinyasa Flow Class that ended up being the HOTTEST Hot Yoga Class I have ever taken, at Black Swan Yoga Westlake. Which was a great studio with awesome instructors! I enjoyed the class a ton. I also got lots of laughs seeing my husband slip and slide, and be drenched in sweat. (He's not a Yogi, so this was a true challenge for him). I on the other hand was decked out in Prana gear, and ready to sweat!

I wore my favorite outfit from their Spring collection!

  • The Ambrosia Tank, which was perfect for hot Yoga. It has super cute cutouts in it, which made it totally breathable. Plus the also band around the waste keeps it in place while also allowing for a flowy top. 
  • The Roxanne Capri in the orange pixel print. These are seriously some of my favorite leggings! I get so many compliments on them, and they are super flexible for all sorts of workouts.
  • I also used my Prana Yoga Mat which was a great companion for the sweat fest class we attended! Although myself and my mat were both drenched in sweat, I had no fear of slipping and hurting myself as I held poses.
  • You may also notice my Yoga Mat Rap, it's Prana too!

We also took some adventures while we were in the area, and found 2 amazing natural springs that are including in the Top 10 [Natural] Swimming Holes in Texas. The one pictured above is Jacob's Well! It's not only a natural spring that you can hike around and swim in, but there's also a 30 ft. whole in the spring that you can jump into! My amazing Prana swimsuit was incredible for this sort of adventure! Not only did I feel super cute, but the Tobago Bottoms which claim to be "a secure fit [that] will withstand heavy waves" measured up! While climbing up rocks to the top, and even jumping in the water I felt secure and these things stayed put! The same went for the Taala Top, when I jumped in I definitely expected to have to readjust my top before submerging from the water, but nope, to my surprise my top stayed in place!

Then....one of my favorite moments of my week happened! I got to take an Aerial Silks Class at 4 Elements Austin. Wow was this a rush! Seriously such an invigorating experience. The challenge that you get when you do a Silks class is so fun! And felt so good to be able to achieve and hold some of these moves. And once again, my all time favorite Prana leggings got me through it! These are the Gabi Leggings are amazing. The seems create a flattering look, plus the Chakara Performance Fabric is different. It's more of a cotton feel vs. a spandex. I love them! They are so comfortable and super cute on! They are most definitely my go-to's! I really need to get them in the other color!

We also played Top Golf, enjoyed a morning on the Tennis Court, and spent an entire day wine tasting at some amazing Texas Hill Country Wineries! We were so impressed by how much Texas had to offer!

Then I finished the week by joining my mom for some early morning Yoga and a mid-morning run. Plus we got to enjoy some amazingly cool weather. The first that I have felt in Texas, but we could definitely tell that Fall is on the way, so I pulled out my Ergo Leggings which are super stylish, majorly athletic and a great fit legging from the new Prana Fall line. And I had to throw on my  Ginger Top to stay comfortable in the cool weather!

3 Must-Haves for a Happy & Healthy Vacation

So there's this theory out there that hasn't really been solved. People, even experts have their opinions, but no one has said which is the end all be all when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. The theory....MODERATION!  When it comes to living healthy, eating healthy, does the common term, "Do everything in moderation" really apply. I have read that yes, you should have a cheat day or meal. Then I have read that ABSOLUTELY NOT! 

Being that I am sugar free, and know that sugar is addictive, when it comes to healthy eating, I lean more towards the strict healthy lifestyle, no cheat days, and moderation is not good. 

Now I will say that I do eat sweets, but they are healthy and sugar free! To me that is learning to live a healthy lifestyle. Feeding the sweet tooth with healthy foods rather than sugary, fattening foods! I have an entire list of SUGAR-FREE HEALTHY, Sweet Recipes here! Try them out! They will feed that sweet tooth, but you aren't "cheating." 

I have a similar theory when it comes to vacationing! I LOVE traveling and taking vacations! But since really jumping in to a healthy and active lifestyle, just as much as travel is one of my personal and family values, so is being active. So even on vacation, I find sugar free treats to enjoy, I eat well, and I workout and/or do active things. It's not as a chore either, it's because I LOVE IT and it's become my lifestyle. Where you will be having SO MUCH FUN you will forget you are actually working out! 

I love to take Yoga classes in new towns, and get different instructors perspectives. I love working out or running in new outdoor areas, and with my husband. I love going paddle boarding, or maybe taking a Barre class, which aren't things that are offered in my city. So plan those things! Make them a fun activity you do on vacation! 

I know we will for sure go paddle boarding, hiking, and maybe rent bikes! These are all easy and fun things that will make your vacation healthy & fun!

Does Wearing Bright Socks Make Me Run Faster?

I'm not sure if bright socks make you run faster, but if they are tight socks, specifically compression socks, then they will probably make your legs feel better after a long or fast run.

Now I've shared over the past several months about compression sleeves and how great compression gear can be to help recovery from intense workouts or runs, but I have never worn full socks that are compression.

I remember after running my first half marathon in 2012, we spent the afternoon at an outdoor mall! Ya crazy right! Walking around after running 13.1 miles that morning. And I remember saying, "I wish I had really tight leggings all over my legs. I just feel like that would make them feel better." I said this because my muscles were so flimsy, jello-y, and sore. This was before I knew what compression socks were, and now, they actually have full compression leggings as well. 

When you where compression socks while running, before running, or even after running, (or hard intense workouts), studies have shown that they stimulate blood flow and oxygen to muscles, allowing legs to recover faster from a hard run. 

So no wonder compression gear has become an essential part of a runner's wardrobe! 

Since I have only ever used compression sleeves, it was different having the full sock from TIUX, but I actually really enjoyed it. Now days, you can find most socks (not just for runners), that have some type of compression in them, usually a little band around the arches. So it was nice to have the added compression and stability around my feet. Plus, they have added support around the back part of the ankle, and the socks are a good thickness. Not too thin like you might imagine for compression, but not too thick, so that they are still easily used in the Texas summer that is coming up!

My No-Sugar Journey Update! by @brittanysuell  

Well, I've officially been a month and a half with pretty much NO SUGAR

WHAT?? Is that even real life? 

It has honestly been a fun journey for me. I have enjoyed learning. Even when I "fail." AKA start eating some peanut butter and realize after several bites that it has sugar. 

I'm definitely not beating myself up over a few bites of sugar-infested peanut butter. I did however put the jar up, and will start buying any nut butters naturally. (got to keep an eye on those nutrition labels...even in the "healthy" stuff)

The Sugar Detox

Here's a few things that got me through the weeks of what they call the "Sugar Detox."

Sugar Detox-the first several weeks of giving up sugar. When your body is telling your mind..."I NEED SUGAR." Even though you don't, you are just so used to it, and maybe even addicted to it that you think you need it! 

So, a few ways I tricked my mind into soothing it's sugar cravings, is by indulging in natural sugars! 

I was leaning heavily on fruits and their natural sugars during those weeks. Having about 4 servings a day. (now I've gone to about 2 servings a day). 

I also ate almond butter (the non-sugar infested one), with an apple literally every day! It was my go-to dessert! Or afternoon sweet snack! Soooo good! 

Just because an item contains sugar doesn't mean it's bad! 

One thing I have really learned more about is reading food labels! 

To start, I first look at how many grams of sugar the item contains. Then, once I see the amount of sugar, I look to the list of ingredients! 

Just because it has sugar in it doesn't mean it's bad and I can't have it. I have to find out where that sugar is coming from! 

If the list of ingredients says SUGAR...then that straight up means it's a no go. 

There are some items that will show sugar in the nutritional facts though, and not actually contain sugar. It will just be the counting sugar from the natural sugars or fructose that is in the product. A good example of this is the World Market Sweet Potato Chips. The label shows that it has a certain amount of sugars, but the ingredient list reads sweet potatoes, oil, and salt. There you have it. It's as natural as some baked sweet potatoes at home. All that sugar is just the natural sugar in sweet potatoes, which are SO YUMMY, and a great thing to eat all the time by the way! (and that don't need added brown sugar or marshmallows! FYI! because they are so sweet naturally, why do we think we need to add more stuff to them!?!? I don't get it!)

Do I still crave sugar? 

Well yes I do at times. BUT this has been the fun part of the journey! Learning to cook and bake various treats for my family that have ZERO SUGAR!! and they are still sweet! 

Say hello to my Blueberry Muffin Recipe! Yep that's real life! Blueberry Muffins with NO SUGAR! and so yummy! 

Banana Pancakes! Yep, I can still have pancakes! and I either eat them with a nut butter on top, or pure maple syrup!

*pure maple syrup is one of the tricky ones. It may say it contains lots of sugar, but if the ingredient list says "maple syrup" then you are good to go. Just have it in moderation.

Homemade Larabar Recipe! Such a yummy treat, and super nutritious! Plus this was the first time I cooked with dates. That has been a fun learning experience. 

Strawberry-Banana Nice Cream....a great snack for you or the kids! 

I also have a sugar free cake I've been playing with the recipe for. Trying to get it right for my son's first birthday in April. I'll be sharing that in the next month or so! 

HONEY is my new best friend! 

Dates & Honey are my go-to natural sweeteners! 

But honey, honey is my new best friend! 

I use honey to sweeten mostly everything! Even my coffee! It is so good in coffee! Even if you aren't even remotely interested in going to a SUGAR FREE life, I would still encourage you to try honey in your coffee! I even order my coffee at coffee shops, Starbucks included to be sweetened with honey. Just try it. Tomorrow morning, forgo your normal regime of coffee, and try it with a spoonful of honey and maybe some milk if you prefer! It's tasty!

 So there you have it, a little about my journey, and how it's been. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm cheating the No Sugar lifestyle by still getting to enjoy some of these yummy things. But then I have to remember, just because I'm doing no sugar doesn't mean that I don't get to eat good, or even sweet foods. Obviously I have to be careful not to over indulge, and still eat healthy, not just take the no sugar factor as all the weight of what I'm eating. But, it's nice to still be able to have something sweet sometimes.

How Bout a Sugar Free Recipe! 

How to make a yummy Acai Bowl! Full of nutrition, and topped with natural coconut and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts! From @brittanysuell

 

An Acai Bowl is a super easy and yummy snack to make for an afternoon snack, (especially when it starts to warm up), or as a late night snack or dessert. It has an ice cream like texture, but is fruity, and full of nutrition. Plus when you top this with all-natural Hemp Hearts from Manitoba Harvest, you're adding more protein and omegas to this already power packed snack! 

How to make a yummy Acai Bowl topped with Hemp Hearts!

First you will need some Acai.

Second, you will need Hemp Hearts!

Third, you will need a high powered blender and some milk of your choice.

1-Toss the frozen Acai Smoothie pack into your blender (I used one pack for one bowl). Add a little bit of milk. (I like to use coconut or almond). Blend on high. Add only a little milk at a time, and continue adding some when needed. You want the Acai to stay pretty thick, like ice cream.

2-You can add some frozen berries in with the Acai, or a frozen banana if you want a little extra flavor and more fruity goodness. 

3-Use an ice cream scoop to put it in a bowl. and top it with your HEMP HEARTS from Manitoba Harvest

4-ENJOY! 

*The Acai is a little tart, so you can always add a little honey to make it a tad sweeter.

HAPPY FRIDAY Everyone! Now I know, in some parts of the U.S., it has been incredibly cold, but let me just say that in my part of Texas this week, the weather has been incredible! It has been anywhere from the 50's, to close to 80degrees out! It has definitely felt like Spring and I have loved it! This week we I had several great runs in the amazing weather, got to do my Stroller Strides workouts outside, plus I even took blankets to the park and relaxed with friends and our babies! Can you say HELLO SPRING....just kidding. Texas weather is crazy, so next week there could be ice on the ground, and I won't be as lucky to get all these great workouts done outside. Here's where it gets fun! I am so excited to share this great product and workout with you! I recently received my own 10lb ActivMotion Bar through Sweat Pink, and was able to try out some of the awesome workouts that they offer! Which are seriously great! Such great core workouts, but I decided to mix my favorite indoor workout....Yoga, with the ActivMotion Bar and see what I could come up with. Let me just tell you, this workout is no joke! Think holding Yoga Warrior Poses on their own are hard...try doing it with the added core focus of the ActivMotion Bar, and you get a butt-kicking core and strength workout!

Okay, so what makes the ActivMotion Bar so special!?!? 

ActiveMotion Bar is a workout bar filled with rolling steal weights. That means that from the moment you pick up the bar, they are moving, and forcing you to find balance with the bar.  While working out with the bar, as they move from side-to-side, it creates a resistance for you, and causes you to find balance by using your core strength.  So throughout the Yoga workout I created, you are not only using strength for the various curls and rows that I have incorporated, but throughout the entire sequence, your core is majorly activated to hold the ActivMotion Bar in place, and move with it while holding your balance!

Almost two years ago I reviewed the first generation Flip Belt, but since then, things have changed, and the Flip Belt is even better!

A Flip Belt is a singular tubed pocket belt with multiple slits around it for easy access, as well as a small hook to hold your keys.  It is utilized by athletes who need their hands free while also having their personal items close by.

So those are just some of the great things I love about the Flip Belt! Yes I love it for running because I am a runner.  Today though, I wore it all over town while running errands with my 7 month old baby.  I was wearing leggings, and a workout shirt, so I had zero pockets, and was toting around a 20lb baby, and items I was returning to stores.  So...this led little room for me to want to lug around my purse as well.  Instead, I just stuck my phone, my ID, my debit card, and my keys inside my flip belt! It worked great!

Another perk I like about the Flip Belt, is that it fits so nice and tight around my waist, that it holds my leggings up when they get lose during a workout and start sagging! This seems to happen to me often! hahaha So I'm loving using the Flip Belt as an actual belt, plus enjoying the easy use of the pockets as well.

So, whether you are running, doing burpees, or box jumps, the Flip Belt stays close to your body.  Plus, I've tried several belts for running, and a lot of them will jiggle, or FLOP while my phone is in them and I'm running down the road...which gets so annoying and distracting. The Flip Belt doesn't do that! Because of the way it is built, and the way the material lays against your body, even when items are in it, it stays neatly in place and secure near your body.

Little Sis goes to Yoga Training! Plus a YOGI

Anyways, this bag is awesome! Not only does Yoga People Bags have amazing prints for their bags, but they are super roomie as well!

On a normal basis I leave my mat, strap, and block in my bag! That's pretty roomie on it's own.  A few weeks ago though, I ran to the gym from my house (1.6miles one way), and did a yoga class then ran back.  All I took was my yoga bag, and I fit everything that I needed in it! I was so amazed! But even with just your mat in it, it's not TOO big.  It has a great/roomie inside zipper pocket, then two small outside button pockets.  I use those for my phone, headphones, money, etc.

Cause I'm SASSY!

A couple of months ago we were both sent some amazing headbands and a key chain faub from Sassy Bands. If you have been following us for sometime you know that we love headbands. We have tried out a few and even sale some in our Naturally Fit Sisters shop. I can tell you that I wasn't expecting these bands to be too much different than some of the other that we have tried... but man, I LOVE them! You see, Big Sis here has this Big Ol' Round head... and it makes it hard to keep things on my head... but these stay on too! I love these because they are stylish AND fitness apparel.

Sassy Bands has such a variety of bands from size to style! It was so fun and HARD to chose which ones we wanted to try! They are constantly coming out with new ribbons that it makes you want to keep ordering more and more... this is a good thing. We both had the opportunity to review both solid, glittery, designed, and even worded items... and skinny and thick! We loved them all. The skinny ones are very stylish and can be worked to fit any outfit! We especially love wearing the glitter ones because they are just OH so cute! I, Big Sis, have to wash my hair EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING of my life or it will be oily, oily, oily. Lil Sis can go like a year without washing hers! :) With that said, the Sassy Bands are so great for me on those mornings I want to be rebellious and NOT wash my hair.

The Key Faubs are amazing. I would dare to say that I haven't lost my keys in sometime! :) I love it. Sure, I have been out of commission (running) for a few months, but my key faub is for sure encouragement to get going again!!! I have been using it since I got it a couple of months back and it is still clean... I know that Little Sis said that if she were to do it again she would get something with less white, though the orange fits her perfectly. I love mine and it has just as much white in it. So it would just be what you think is the best fit for you. I personally LOVE my key faub because it is so cute and different than what others have.

The key faubs are made very well. I have used mine faithfully, like I said, since I relieved it and it is not tearing or unravelling or anything. I have gotten many compliments about my key faub asking if I have made it. I sure wish I could take credit for it! I have had other ones but this one is made to hold up more than the others I have had. I like that they are shorter and thicker too, haha, just a personal preference.

Sassy Bands can make them in all sizes and styles... she even makes them for babies! I have been meaning to order some for my little lady, but life has been- busy! :) We tried to let her wear one, but it didn't work so well. You can see in the picture above how it is  on my head. The great thing about this band, I don't have to put bobby pins in it to hold it. The skinny ones hold better in my hair than the thicker ones... but it is quite possibly the silly round shape of my head. The bands are very comfortable (especially the one above) and I don't even notice it is there, plus it is adorable! DSC_0708DSC_0712

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Along with just how cute they are and how well they are made, I Little Sis have to say that they seriously do stay on so well.  We were at the pool for several hours the other day, and I wore one jumping in and out of the pool, playing with my nephew, throwing him around, etc. and my Sassy Band never budged! If I am not wearing a Bondi Band these days, the Sassy Band is my go to headband! Plus I just love shiny, glittery things! That is why all three of the ones I got, and my key faub are all glitter!!
