How To Keep Going When Things Don't Go As Planned

Well, if you follow me on social media, then you saw this picture flash up on Saturday.

That's right....I spent my Saturday morning getting all my necessities packed up to get me through my half marathon. You know, the one I asked you to celebrate with me about on Friday, ya that one! 

I was busy cleaning my house, shaving my legs, and packing bags for my family. I had plans to run a couple of errands, then we were hitting the road by 1PM, in order to drive the 5 hrs to get to my half marathon location! 

Then, when I was about to grab my son to go run errands, my husband called to inform me that I should not be driving because of the ice covering the roads, and dangerous weather conditions. 

So in short....we did not make the trip to College Station, TX. and I did not run across the finish line to receive a medal, completing my first half marathon post baby. 

And yes, my suitcase is still packed, and sitting on my bedroom floor! (moping much?)

SO, HOW DO I KEEP GOING WHEN THINGS DON'T GO AS PLANNED!?!? 

Well, to start, I looked at the silver lining and enjoyed a good day celebrating friends on Sunday. We attended several celebrations that we would've missed otherwise. 

Next, I choose to not sulk. Although I did enjoy a few extra pieces 0f the SUGAR FREE Chocolate cake that I made this weekend! (yummo!)

Then, I make plans to have a successful week, and continue prepping for my next half marathon I have in the books, which is April 12th! 

That half marathon I will be running with my husband! Which how sweet will that be! Considering it will be his first ever, and my first post baby! 

And, I am currently looking for a run to take part in during the month of March! I'm itching to race, but I want to stay local instead of spending money traveling, so we will see what I can find! 

So all that to say, I'm spending time choosing to MOVE, NOURISH, & BELIEVE this week! Living the Lorna Jane Mantra, and joining The Fit Switch & Jill Conyers for the #DishtheFit Link Up!

MOVE: 

My plan to MOVE this week is to get back into a good training schedule. Now that the ice is melting around here (praying it is done for good), and we are getting more daylight, I will continue training hard. + Find a run (even just a local 5K or 10K) to take part in before my April 12th half marathon! 

NOURISH: 

Continue staying strong in my Sugar-Free Eating and learning good recipes for my family! And making sure not to replace healthy sugar-free eating with random sugar free things that are processed. More on this tomorrow! 

BELIEVE: 

First, I will not be sad about missing my half-marathon, but believe that we made the best choice to keep our family safe and off the roads, and trusting that the Lord knew why we weren't supposed to be there, and being okay with that. 

Secondly, this week specifically, I am choosing to believe in the BIG DREAMS that my husband and I have been having for our future, and the future of our business, Simply Suell! And I am choosing to keep dreaming and believing that these big things will happen in our future!

It's not too late to set goals for 2015...

It's not too late to set goals! This year will only happen once, Make the most of it!  @NFSisters It's Saturaday, January 10th, and I'm sitting with my husband as he thinks upon the year of 2014 and writes down his goals for 2015.  After which we will share together our individual strivings for the year, and then work together to create couple/family goals for 2015.

To some this may be CRAZY! You may be thinking..."Hello, it's already 2015...you missed out! You can't create goals for a hear that has already started....!" But let me tell you, it's NOT TOO LATE TO SET GOALS FOR 2015!

As you know, I set my goals at the end of the year....in time as some might say! (You can read my goals here) I realized though that my husband, who is usually the goal setter of the family hadn't made time to set his own, so we definitely hadn't made time to talk about goals together.  So I decided tonight was the night, and hey, there are still 355 days left in the year, plenty of time to achieve our goals in 2015, or at least work towards them!

Did you hear me.....you have plenty of time to make goals and work towards them, you didn't miss out!

There are still 355 days left in 2015!

So if you haven't set any goals for the year yet, I would suggest doing it! It is so important to set goals! And don't set goals that are general, make them specific! Make them measurable! Make them Realistic! Make them Attainable! Make them Timely!

 

 

Here's an outline to use for setting goals.  You can find this in the awesome Lorna Jane 2015 Diary!

Answer these questions, and once you are done, you will be ready to set your goals for 2015!

  •  What did I make happen in 2014?
  • What didn't work in 2014?
  • How will i change it this year?
  • What makes me happy?
  • I will say yes to....
  • What is important to me?
  • In 2015 I want to feel...
  • My Vision for 2015! (Come back Tuesday to see my 2015 Vision Board #Dishthefit)

Bam! Now write down your top 3-5 Goals for 2015 and you are golden and ready to conquer the next 355 days!

It's basically a co-op for fruits and vegetables, and they have them all over! Check out the website to see if you have one in your town.  My friend and I split the basket, but we got all of this for $15!

Chickpeas & Lorna Jane

I recently participated in the #HolidayMobbing Twitter Party with Fit Approach & Fit Mob and HEYO!!! I WON!  I love twitter parties! They are fast and furious, inspiring, and fun, and you meet new awesome people to follow, and sometimes you WIN awesome stuff like a $50 Lorna Jane Giftcard and the Lorna Jane 2015 Diary!

10836456_320684171457956_211701094_nI was so excited when I got my diary in the mail! It is awesome! Such a great way to prepare to be successful for 2015! Plus it helps get organized with a calendar, set goals, and it has awesome inspiration and recipes in it!

Either dream about your dreams, or get up and chase them! 

I think I love that quote so much because that is exactly what I finally did when becoming a Yoga instructor! It was something I always said One Day I would do.  Then finally I just did it! One Day is NOT ON A CALENDAR! So instead of saying one day, set a date on a calendar and make your dreams happen! Ever since I stepped out towards that one dream of mine, I feel like so many other awesome things have fallen into place for me, and I love it! 

I also am loving the recipes in the Diary! Here's one I made recently and love this idea as an on-the-go snack for me, and once my son gets a little older, for him too! In the book, they made these as a salad topper, but I made them just as a snack to pop in your mouth!

It's so easy! Here's how you make them:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, Drain the chickpeas, Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon  of each (cumin, paprika, garlic, salt, and pepper), lightly coat chickpeas in a bowl with Olive Oil, sprinkle mixture over peas and coat. Lay them on a baking sheet and roast for 25 minutes. The chickpeas should come out crispy.

Enjoy these at home, on a salad, while you are out and about and get hungry, or take them with you while you travel over the holidays, and snack on these instead of convenient store snacks!

I have several colored tights, but no black, so I was looking for a classic black tight that I could wear in the gym, to Yoga class, or out on the town!

Let me just tell you, these are the PERFECT tights!!

Here I am working out in them at Abilene Fit4Mom Stroller Strides workout! They are incredible!

The waist band on the leggings are so comfortable and don't dig into me.  They have a draw strong that gently makes them tighter if needed, and they aren't always sagging when I move.  A lot of tights when I'm doing an active workout I am always pulling up! These are not like that.  Plus they have lines down the back and side that really flatter the body. Oh and did I mention they are so comfortable and the fabric feels amazing!

And here I am wearing the same leggings at our town's Christmas Parade this week! I love how versatile they are and how easily they go from the gym to the street! So if you need new tights, check these out!

Motivation Monday

This week's Motivation Monday is all about NOURISHing! & how to Nourish our bodies through our eating habits!

This post itself was motivated by 2 things.

1-Lorna Jane's mantra: Move.Nourish.Believe. and the emphasis she puts on nourishing your body inwardly and outwardly.

2-Chalene Johnson's podcast I listened to this week, called 11 Eating Habits of Fit People.

Both of these people are inspirational in so many ways, not only in fitness and health, but in living an overall wholesome lifestyle full of adventure, productivity, goal setting, and taking care of yourself in every aspect.

This week when listening to Chalene's podcast, there were two things that really stuck out to me that I had to share.  All related to NOURISHING!

1-Post pregnancy, I have really gotten into good eating habits.  Not perfect, but good! I still eat out on occasion, and I still indulge in chips and queso (my fav), but for the most part I have a very routine weekly eating plan.  I have learned what I enjoy throughout the week, and I know exactly what I am getting when I go to the store. My husband found this a little weird that I didn't have much variety, until I let him listen to #1 of the 11 Eating Habits of Fit People, then he took in the idea, almost like it made sense to him.

So here is it: (paraphrased from Chalene Johnson)

'Fit people don't have a huge variety.  Although most diets advertise that you can still eat a variety of foods.  Chalene stated that after working with fit people over 15+ years, she realized that they had set foods that they ate.  Although sometimes they would rotate in new items, for the most part, they have 3-5 things they ate for breakfast, 3-5 things for lunch, etc.'

I was amazed at this thought, but also proud because I feel like I have begun this habit on my own!

She also stated that she would ask them if they calorie count, but they don't because they know what their go-to's are, and they are staying with healthy, whole foods, so there was no need to count calories! This makes total sense.

So maybe try this at home.  See if you can find things that are healthy, and closest to their whole, natural form, and make those things what you eat.  But make them things that you like.

Here's a few ideas of what I eat: 

BREAKFAST: 

  • smoothie
  • eggs
  • fruit
  • yogurt with granola

LUNCH: 

  • sandwich
  • fruit
  • smoothie
  • raw veggies dipped in ranch
  • more fruit

SNACKS: 

  • popcorn (stove popped, lightly salted)
  • granola
  • Greek yogurt with granola
  • sweet potato chips
  • boiled eggs
  • fruit
  • protein bites

These are just some of my go-to's, but you have to make it your own, and find things that you look forward to eating! 

 

For me, I don't feel like I'm missing out! I enjoy what I eat! I am a big snacker, so on my grocery list and go-to eating list, I have snacks that I eat throughout the day! I have been sharing those on our Facebook Page lately, so go FOLLOW US for ideas!

 

2-Secondly, Chalene totally wrecked my mind on this concept, and it will be something that I most definitely have to work on.

(paraphrased)

"Fit people have a set time at night that they stop eating.  They don't snack late at night, they go to bed on an empty stomach. Where did we get the idea that we need to go to bed on a full stomach. When we go to bed on a full stomach, we aren't getting as good of rest as normal because our body is working so hard to process the food while we are sleeping.  Instead, go to bed on an empty stomach, allow your body to fully rest, and wake up ready to eat a nice healthy breakfast.'

'Instead of craving snacks at night, we need to start craving the feeling of waking up with an empty, flat stomach'

Oh come on! You know that feeling, the feeling when you wake up some mornings and feel extra thin! That is a good feeling!

 

I am the worst about snacking at night, even on healthy things, but not always the healthy things!

My husband and I stay up until at least midnight every night, so eating dinner at 6-8PM, I am hungry for a snack by 11PM.  So like I said this one will be extra hard for me.

But the point about letting your body rest, even from processing food, makes total sense! 

I need to change my thought from needing to go to bed full, to needing to go to bed on an empty stomach!

It is so important to NOURISH our bodies, with good, healthy foods! So I encourage you, find foods that you enjoy, but that will NOURISH your body, and feed your mind as well! & find good snacks, but beware of eating too late at night, and be kind to your body by giving it time to relax when you sleep! 

If you have time this week, take a moment to listen to this podcast, it is so motivating! or listen while you clean your house, that's what I did!

Power Protein Bites

Today I'm sharing a yummy recipe with you!

I'm a sucker for snacks, so I'm constantly looking for healthy, (mostly) all-natural snacks that I can make in batch and enjoy over the next week or two when I get munchy. These yummy power bites are packed full of protein and are so yummy, PLUS they are no-bake! How great is that!?!?

Here's the recipe: 1cup dry oatmeal 2/3cup of coconut flakes 1/2cup peanut butter (I used all-natural) 1/2cup of dark chocolate chips 1/3cup of honey 1tbsp. Chia seeds 1tsp. Vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, mid thoroughly with spoon or hands. Put mixture in refrigerator for half an hour to chill. Once chilled roll into 1inch balls. Store in air right container in refrigerator. ENJOY!

#ShareSomethingInspiring Week 1

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently participating in a Twitter challenge hosted by Fit Approach & Lorna Jane Active Wear! 40lbs Down, 1 Month Post Baby

Well my little man is 1 month old already, and I am slowly but surely seeing this weight drop! Actually it's going pretty fast, but that's probably because I gained 65-70lbs during this pregnancy!

That seems so crazy to me, so much weight to gain, but I am officially 40lbs down, and have about 25-30lbs more to lose! And I am quite encouraged with the fact that I haven't even started working out yet, so hopefully once I start working out then I really continue to see the results.1532130_734587969927111_1578367399037048371_n

  I have been very aware of what I am eating though, and counting calories using the app My Fitness Pal, (which is awesome by the way! It links with my FitBit so that is a lot of fun, and helpful!) Along with eating well, I have also been going on a lot of walks! Either I go in the evening with my husband, or me and my other mommy friends go together! Both is a lot of fun... I either get good time with my friends, or a nice family outing....I am actually really enjoying walking! Although I am super ready to start running.

Next wednesday will be my 6 weeks mark, so I think I will start doing some light workouts.  I plan to start with the Beach Body T25 workouts, since they are 25minutes, I thought they would be a good starting point.  Along with that I also plan on starting to run.  Slowly but surely I know, but I am excited! I am hoping to run a "Firecracker 4 Miler" on the 4th of July in my hometown.  That is my first running goal, then we will go from there.

And I couldn't give you an update on my weightless progress without showing you a little sneak peek of my adorable man on his 1 month day! Isn't he darling!! I made that bow tie for him! Also, I wanted to let y'all know I am doing this awesome Twitter Challenge for the next month with Lorna Jane & Fit Approach! It's called #ShareSomethingInspiring, so the entire month we are tweeting and writing about things that inspire us!
