START THE CONVERSATION

A mom friend tagged me on Facebook today sharing that her daughter asked what it means to "Fuel Your Body," which is a phrase I use often, and used several times in my news segment. I want to encourage you mamas... use that phrase to help to educate your children on the benefits of good food. It's so important for us as parents to talk to our children about good and bad foods. To talk to them about a healthy balance. To show them how to pick healthy foods, and WHY we choose healthy foods.

Not sure how to talk to your kids about this without being an extremist, here are a few kid friendly ways I do it.

  1. First and foremost...SET THE EXAMPLE! They do what you do! And like I always say...EXPOSURE EQUALS PREFERENCE!
  2. Talk to them about foods that God gave us! Think whole foods, that are natural and good for us. Discuss having a balance, and leaning towards more God foods...veggies, nuts, fruits, meats, etc. and then keeping a smaller amount of Man foods available! Demonstrate this in your own food choices as well.
  3. Give your children a VISION of why we should care about eating healthy or "fueling our body," and why we should care about exercise. I always tell my kids..."We love to exercise because God gave us this body, and we want to take care of it so that we can live our happiest, fullest life living for God." (even though my kids don't fully grasp this meaning yet, I consistently repeat it to them, and one day they will understand)

You got this mamas! Remember, even small changes go a long way! Don't feel overwhelmed! And PLEASE, reach out if you need help or have questions!

All the mom love, XOXO

Brittany

Batch Snacking

So yesterday I spent an hour and a half of my afternoon at a friends house prepping several recipes of no-bake, healthy snack foods!  Seriously, it was the best use of my time ever!

I like to call this BATCH SNACKING!

So many of us believe in meal prep, menu planning, batch cooking, or like I've been sharing a lot about lately, creating freezer meals. All of these things are ways that we are able to set ourselves up for success! To create an organized kitchen, and make eating healthy and at home meals easier! Technically, if you are doing any of these things, then you are pretty much a genius! Taking just a few hours of your day to make your life less stressful, to create success on the healthy eating front, and to do all that you can to avoid the fast food run that so easily entices us when we don't have pre-prepped food! It's just a genius move on your part, so if you are doing it, then KUDOS to you! If you aren't and need help, then I offer services for Freezer Meal Prep, just check out my options HERE

So why is it that we don't take the same approach when it comes to snacking?

Batch Snacking! Use these Sugar Free Snack Recipes and set yourself up for success when it comes to having healthy snacks on hand!

[bctt tweet="Batch Snacking! Use these Sugar Free Snack Recipes to create healthy snacks to have on hand with @brittanysuell"]

I bet many of us can say that when that afternoon lull at work hits, or that late night TV time comes around, that we tend to jump off track and grab the closest sweet snack or bag of processed chips.

When it comes to snacking, we can throw our entire healthy eating plan off wack! So why not set yourself up for SUCCESS when it comes to snacking just like you do when it comes to making healthy meals for your family!?!

Both are important. Yes eating a full, high protein with fiber, good fats, and lean veggies meal is great for you! But let's face it, for some of us it's every day at the same time, for others it's just certain days of the week, but whatever the case, we will want a snack at some point. So instead of grabbing the thing that's nearest to us, which let's face it, in our world, that is usually some highly processed crap from the convenient store or checkout line. So instead of grabbing those things, why not doing a little BATCH SNACKING as well!

So take a look at my Sugar Free Recipes! Pick a few, make your list, then carve out a little time to make some healthy snacks!

My friend and I focussed on original protein bites, Reese's Protein Bites, and lara bars, which are all no-bake, which makes them even easier! I like to keep them in my refrigerator for easy access! Whether it's for a pre-post workout snack, or just an afternoon snack, or maybe it's when I feel like I need something sweet after dinner. Either way, I have them prepared, with easy access. (Just have self-control and don't eat them all at once, because man are they yummy!)

** Helpful tip: get some ground up coconut flakes, almonds, or chia seeds and roll the balls in them for a little extra goodness!**

Let's chat about it! Leave me a comment and tell me:

Farewell, I'm off to Yoga Training with some Paleo Snacks & a GIVEAWAY!

Wow I am so excited for the next several days! I am heading out to my Level 4 Yoga Training, which is four days packed of Yoga Knowledge! I will learn a ton, plus get to take Master Classes from some incredible instructors. Plus I also packed in a mini course one evening that is all about using essential oils in Yoga! (Yes I'm an essential oil believer! I use them on my son all the time!) Then, on Monday, July 20th I will go take my ACE Group Fitness Certification Exam which puts me one step closer to becoming a Fit4Mom Stroller Strides Instructor! (Pray for me!)

So, an exciting several days ahead of me. But from my mommy heart I'm a little timid since I will be leaving my son for 4 days....the longest I have left him yet! (Pray for me double time)

I can't believe it though, it was about 3 years ago, to the date, that I made the decision to start my Yoga Training. Here's the picture I posted on Facebook, July 29, 2013!

Yoga Training plus Paleo Snacks and a Giveaway!

So as I step away for a few days, keep up with my training on social media by following me on Instagram & you can even find me on Periscope by searching for "Brittany Suell." There you will get to spend time with me via live video feeds! (It's almost like we are together!!) Seriously though, I am loving this new app!

While I'm away and sitting in class though, I have planned to pack healthy lunches including some of my favorite, easy go-to meals: fruit, pico and blue corn chips, and sandwiches. I also have some super amazing, healthy, Paleo snacks lined up for the week!

Yoga Training and yummy Paleo Snacks plus a Giveaway from Steve's Paleo Goods!

You may remember this post from Instagram a few weeks ago! Look at all of these yummy Paleo Snacks! They are all from Steve's Paleo Goods. And they are SUGAR FREE! Which if you didn't know, I gave up sugar in January, and have been sugar free for 7 months now! So I was so excited to hear that!!

Some other awesome things about Steve's Paleo Goods:

They give 15% of their profit to the Steve's Club National Program that brings fitness, nutrition guidance and mentorship to at-risk youth. (That's awesome!) You can read more about that here

"Steves's PaleoGoods is committed to supporting healthier ways to eat - and live. Our journey is within ourselves, in our communities, and for people like you who are on similar journeys. We've been part of the CrossFit Community for many years, providing clean, healthy fuel for athletes, and also as athletes ourselves."

Plus their products are clean, sugar free, and Paleo! That means:

  • No Gluten
  • No Dairy
  • No Soy
  • No Artificial Preservatives!

I was so excited to get my Paleo Sampler Pack in the mail!  Which by the way they have some incredible sampler packs! Some that are all different things like the one I got, but some are various jerky's if you just want jerky, or different dried fruits, so there are some great options for the Sampler Packs

[bctt tweet="Good Luck @BrittanySuell on your @YogaFit Level 4 Training! And I hope I WIN the #Paleo Snack Kit from @stevespaleo #fitfluential"]

So what I'm loving most about my pack:

1) The dried fruit! I got dried strawberries, which taste like gummy snacks! Even at our local natural food store, the strawberries, (and most fruits) are sweetened with sugar....which I just don't get, and it annoys me so much! I was relieved to see that these are just strawberries! My son and I both love them!

2) Which brings me to the second awesome thing. My son loves it all! He's only one, but I feel comfortable feeding him all of this! Oh, and on that note, my husband loves it too. He sat down and ate an entire pack of beef jerky...which I gave him a hard time about. But being sugar free, my husband still eats some sugar, despite me not wanting him too. It's hard for us to find him good fulfilling snacks though, so getting Paleo Snacks from Steve's makes that easier!

3) The GRANOLA! OMG I love it! If you look at most store bought granolas, they are packed with sugar. The one that we used to eat on a regular basis even has so much sugar in it. And I still haven't found a homemade recipe that I love. This one is so good and is cinnamon flavored, and I love cinnamon.

4) And lastly.....they have Paleo, Sugar Free KETCHUP!!! Which this may not seem like a big deal to you. But since giving up sugar in January, I have had no ketchup. Well I take that back, I made my own once, but it wasn't incredible, and I only made it once. And they have tons of sauces. Which if you didn't know, lots of sugar hides in the sauces and dressings that you eat, so for me this is a relief!

So to celebrate me getting Level 4 Yoga Certified, and to celebrate finding amazing, Sugar Free Paleo Snacks, I have two amazing offers for you!

First, you can go to Steve's Paleo Goods right now and get you an entire bundle of yummy snacks and get 10% off my using code LEGACY! The code is only good through the 22nd though, so get your order in this week!

Well-Living Wednesday & My Fave Way to Eat Sweet Potatoes

It's Well-Living Wednesday, and today I'm sharing with you my favorite way to eat sweet potatoes....by making Sweet Potato Chips!

Last week in my post "I want to be just like you," I wrote about how we need to be examples to our children, and those around us by choosing a healthy lifestyle, rather than going along with the fast paced life of processed snacks and fast food meals!

It's easy to use the excuse of not knowing what healthy snack alternatives to choose, so I'm going to make it easy by giving you some ideas! Recently in my house we have started making Sweet Potato Chips on a weekly basis! They are such a yummy way to eat sweet potatoes, and a great alternative to a bag of process chips! 10733374_305937026266004_989273959_n

Sweet Potato Chips

-Peel the sweet potatoes, then use the slicer side of the cheese grater to cut the sweet potatoes into chip style strips.  Toss the strips in a bowl with olive oil, then lay them out on a pan. (Using a pizza pan with holes in it cooks them the best) Lightly sprinkle with salt.  Cook at 200 degrees for 2 hours. (or you can put them in a dehydrator.)

Like my Kale Chip Recipe, these never seem to make it further than the pan.  Every time we make them, we stand over the finished product and eat them all up, even when I am trying to save some for later! They are that good!

So make the choice this week to switch out the bags of processed potato chips in your pantry for some homemade Sweet Potato Chips! & if you like those, then be sure to check out my recipe for Kale Chips and add those to your weekly snack rotation as well!

There are so many great options, and I'm sure the entire family will love them!

Here are my Weightloss stats for the week:

Week 13: -1.1lbs

Week 14: -.2lbs

Week 15: -1.3 lbs (152lbs) Total: -8.6lbs

I would love to hear if you try one of my chip recipes, and comment below with your favorite healthy snack!

What is your favorite healthy snack!??
