This weeks workout moves include: 

  • 15 shoulder raises
  • 15 deadlifts
  • 10 side lunges with overhead extension (on each leg)
  • 10 one legged hamstring extension with overhead press
  • 30 bicycle crunches

*For HIIT, go through this entire set as quickly as you can. Not resting until you complete the bicycles. Take a 1-2 minute break and do it again. Repeat 2-5 times!

Friday 5 Fave Workouts 01.13.17

Here's what happens on the weekend. Things get either busy, or lazy. We are enjoying time with family, going out with friends, or maybe traveling, and usually all our healthy eating and working out efforts are out the window! 

That's why for the next several weeks I'm going to be sharing Friday 5 Fave Workouts with you! Things that you can do with just a little weight at home, at someone else's house, or in a hotel! You don't have to go to the gym, or take a ton of your time to do it! Just do these simple moves to keep you moving, and hopefully having worked out will encourage you to continue making smart choices when it comes to filling your plate! 

So to start it off, here's the moves for this weekend! We will be utilizing the Kamagon Ball from Hedstrom Fitness for these workouts. The Kamagon ball is a pretty amazing piece of equipment because it's filled with water, (and you can choose which weight you would like it to be at). For these exercises I'm using it at 10lbs. This use of water in equipment is called Hydro-Inertia. "The efficiency of Hydro-intertia resistance mimics real life situations far more than do static weights such as dumbbells. This is not only important for athletes in their functional training programs, but also helps every day functionality like picking up children."

Make it a HIIT workout by doing the moves back to back with only a 1 minute break between. 

  • 15 Squats with overhead press
  • 10 Reverse lunge with oblique twists (on each side)
  • 15 V-ups
  • 15 Bent over rows
  • 15 Bicep Curls

How To Make Working Out Something You Enjoy!

Here's the problem...people don't workout because they don't enjoy it. 

Last night I looked in the mirror as I was getting ready for bed. My muscles super fatigued from my recent leg workout, and I thought..."You know, I REALLY ENJOY working out." 

I'm not sure when this concept switched for me. When working out became fun and something I desire/crave versus something I have to or need to do to lose weight or stay fit. But I'm so thankful it did. I looked forward to working out and getting active. I look forward to sweating, moving, and stretching! 

How can you get to that place of ENJOYMENT?

Here's 3 Tips to Make Working Out Something You Enjoy:

1) Make it something you can do!

-If working out is not something you do often, don't make the hardest class at the gym the one you go to to try and get back into the swing of things. When you try something too hard, where you feel like you aren't getting any of the moves or able to make progress, it will more than likely discourage you from continuing. 

Find something that challenges you, but doesn't make you feel like a total failure! Little victories spike your enjoyment and create a desire to keep trying and keep getting better. 

2) Make sure the workout you choose isn't too long, but fits your time schedule

-If you only have 30minutes, don't try to fit in an hour workout. If it's longer than you have time for, you won't stick to it. Other things will take priority. Decide how long each day you have to commit to working out, and find a workout that fits that amount of time! THEN GET IT DONE!

3) Make it something FUN!

-So as you all know I am 2.5 months postpartum. I've recently done two things to make working out something that is fun and desirable for me. Because even though I enjoy it, when you are just getting back into it, it can most definitely still be difficult to be motivated. First, I have started doing a workout with my husband! This is so fun to me! I love to workout with him and us be challenged together! So it makes me more motivated to do and stick to the workout! Secondly, for a little cardio, this week I started the new Beachbody Country Heat Workout! It's amazing! It's country dancing. Great music, fun moves, plus lots of sweat! I've loved it and the fun of it has definitely kept me coming back each day! Let me know if you want to try out this workout!

5 Tips to Make Living a Healthy Life SIMPLE!

Let's talk about why living a healthy and fit life matters! 

When you make time to exercise, and eat right, you are not only working on your appearance, you are working on your whole self, which impacts more people than just you! 

I believe that when we are healthy and fit, we are living our happiest life. We are more energized, confident, and overall healthy, which enables us to go after our dreams, and live our best life! God created us to live life to the fullest, and we are only able to do that when we are taking care of ourselves, as well as achieving our calling as women!

I also realize that life gets overwhelming, and as women we have so many duties and responsibilities, and usually, we let ourselves slip to the back burner. So I'm here to simplify the process! 


1) Get a Workout Partner

We all do things better when we have other people cheering us on! When you first start a workout schedule, you may be fired up and excited....but life happens! You need people that are going to be there to encourage you and push you to keep it up, even when things get hard and life gets busy!

Plus it makes it more fun to celebrate your victories when you have someone their to celebrate with! 

2) Make Working Out Fun

Working out can't just be a duty! You have to make it something you enjoy! Find something that is fun for you! Whether it's a specific class, being able to chat with your favorite friends while sweating, or going on bike rides with the family. Choose something that brings you inner peace, and "rest" while you are burning those calories, that way it will be easier to stick with it! 

3) Find Easy At Home Workouts

This is something I have been working to help create for you via my Instagram. Each week I share 2-3 at-home workouts that you can do with minimal equipment. Sometimes, even when you have a plan to be at the gym, or meet your workout partner, it seems like the entire universe is against you. It's these days that you need to have a backup plan that you can easily do at home once the kids are in bed! 

Or better yet, include the kids in it! I recently did a 5 Day #BabyStrongChallenge using the Baby Strong Workout cards!  These things are a must have for momma's with babies or toddlers! They are an amazing resource that are spill/slobber proof, and can hook to your purse, diaper bag, or just stay at home with you. The five days that I worked out with my 28lb son in hand definitely made a difference. Plus the kiddos love it, and it's more time you get to spend with them!

4) Always Be Prepared

Now, getting more on the health side of things, I learned a valuable lesson recently when reading a book. It's something that I have already begun implementing and it is amazing! 


What's that you ask? It can be as simple as a zip-lock bag with your favorite healthy snack in it, tucked in your purse, glove box, or office drawer. Whatever you decide to include in your emergency kit, make it a healthy, filling snack, that will hold you over when you find yourself getting the most hungry, and the most tempted to grab fast food! 

Some of my favorite options: 

  • Mixed Nuts
  • Apple
  • Nut Butter Packs

5) Meal Prep

Over the past 7 months, I have really jumped on the meal prep wagon! And it has completely changed my life! When I'm doing really well, I take time to prep healthy snacks like protein bites, sugar free muffins, etc. 

But on a normal basis, I am spending several hours a month prepping Freezer Meals for my family and me! It has done so much for us! Just by spending a few hours prepping, I have meals in my freezer ready to be cooked in the crock pot. So on our busy evenings, dinner is ready. Or on days when I'm just not feeling it, I don't have to spend hours in the kitchen meal prepping! I get more time with my family, and still get to eat HEALTHY food! It's seriously genius!

5 Reasons Why Stretching is so Good for You! #7DayStretch with Prana


Wow, I just finished up my 5AM Yoga Class on this lovely Friday morning, and I'm feeling good. Now getting up a 4AM isn't always my favorite, but once I'm up and on my Yoga mat, my day is off to a great start!  So in an attempt to CONVINCE YOU to DO YOGA!!! I'm going to share with you 5 Reasons Why Stretching is so Good for You! 

1. Fewer Aches and Pains

Let's face it, we are all getting older, and as our bodies age, we get a little creakier. So in order to decrease the aches and pains that you feel as you may age, stretching helps to keep the body flexible, muscles long and lose, and decrease the aches and paints that your body feels! 

2. Better Posture

Why does posture matter. Because as we age, we gradually tend to slump forward. When we are stretching and strengthening the muscles in our core, shoulders, and back; we are able to maintain a nice posture which allows for better health, and back to #1, fewer aches and pains.

Life Hacker shares this statement about stretching and it's impact on posture: "Assists in correct posture by lengthening tight muscles that pull areas of the body away from their intended position (because of so much time at our computers, many of us have tight chest muscles which pulls the shoulders and head forward, leaving us with a hunched shoulder look)."

3. Creates Easier Movement of Natural, Everyday Activities

We reach, we bend, we twist. In everyday activities we do all of these things, and stretching, helps ensure that we can do these things long term. Especially stretching our spine is important! It makes sure that our back is healthy, which reduces pains, and enables us to easily move through natural everyday activities on our own. 

This is said about a tight spine, from Shape Magazine: “When the thoracic spine becomes tight, it can create many problems up and down the chain of the body,” she says. “I have seen my clients’ necks, shoulders and chest tighten up or become unstable and weak with a tight thoracic spine.”

4. Lengthen Your Muscles

You might be wondering..."What does this even mean!?!?" Well during a lot of everyday activities, carrying heavy loads, or even working out and lifting weights, your muscle length shortens, which is partly why you can feel tight and sore after a workout. When you stretch, your muscles are literally stretching, lengthening, getting less tight, distressing, and being able to move with more flexibility. This not only makes recovery from a workout easier, but it also helps your athletic performance. 

5. Stress Reliever

Of course, one more shameless plug for Yoga, but stretching, especially in a class style format can bring about so much stress relief. Even just taking a short amount of time to stretch can calm the mind, provide a mental break, and give your body a chance to recharge. 

Next time you are feeling stressed, turn everything off, put your phone away, and take 5 minutes to stretch, relax your mind, and just breathe! Then see how you feel!

Here are my Top 3 Favorite Hamstring and Quad stretches!

  1. Get your need as close to the wall as possible, with your shin against the wall, then lean back towards your foot. This is an incredibly deep QUAD stretch!

2. I love this stretch especially in my Yoga classes. Get in a low lunge with the back knee down, then sink the hips back towards your heel and extend the front leg. It's an amazing HAMSTRING stretch!

3. Another super deep QUAD stretch is this one! Get in a low lunge sinking forward very deep, and bend the back leg. See if you can twist around and grab the top of the foot. Be careful and take it slow. Don't try to push your body into this pose. Practice until your quads become to loosen up.

Fueling Fun for the #1MillionMinutes Challenge

 What is it? 

-It's a Yoga Challenge hosted by Prana & Fitapproach.  Basically, as Prana launches their Spring line, they want to motivate people to DO YOGA every day for 30 days!! So they have challenge leaders, (uh-hum) that's me! Who will post Yoga poses on their social media sites every day for everyone to do.  

How long does it last? 

-The challenge goes from February 2-March8th, 30 days total.

Who is it for? 

-ANYONE!! Wahoo! and Everyone! Basically, if you have never done a Yoga pose in your life, this challenge is for you. AND....if you are an advanced Yogi, this challenge is for you! 

But, I never do Yoga, can I even do these poses? 

-Yes! As one of your challenge leaders, I plan to show basic poses, and advanced options so that everyone can participate.  And if this is your first time, take the basic moves and enjoy them! It's part of Yoga to be happy where you are in a pose, and to grow as you practice.  Who knows, some of the poses might even be easy enough that you want to try the advanced poses! No pressure though, just do what your body is capable of! 

How do I participate? 

-Great question! So, FOLLOW ME! I will mostly be posting on Instagram, so you definitely want to follow me there. I will also post photos of the poses on my Facebook Page as well, but I can't always get videos on there, so INSTAGRAM is definitely where you want to be following! 

  • Each day I will post a video and/or a photo with the pose of the day on it, with some instruction for you. 
  • I encourage you to practice the pose for 3-5minutes a day. 
  • Then post a photo and/or video on your own social media site
  • Be sure to tag @Fitapproach @Prana @Brittanysuell #TaketheLeap #LeaveYourLegacy
  • You can also join the Facebook Group for the challenge.  Lot's of awesome people will be there cheering each other on, and posting their daily posts there!

I have decided to post my poses as a Yoga progression.  Basically this means that I will start slow, and build up, so that each day you can stack the poses on top of each other, to create an entire Yoga practice over the 30 days!

Strawberry-Banana Nice Cream


If you are following me on Instagram, you saw that I'm in Florida visiting my sister!! Which means lots of running outside! The weather is incredible here, way better than the frozen roads that I left in Texas. So I will be busy outside, enjoying the weather, the beach, and hanging with my niece and nephew! So, today I have a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador whose going to share an awesome recipe with us! It might be winter time, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a frozen treat every now and again... plus I'm in Florida, so I'll definitely be making these! I've already got my bananas in the freezer, getting ready to make this yummy Nice Cream!! Check out this great alternative to store bought, sugar infused ice cream, and try it as a treat for the kids, or as a healthy dessert for yourself.

Strawberry Nice Cream! A great alternative to ice cream!! Perfect snack for the kids, or dessert for yourself, without all the added sugar!



Strawberry-Banana Nice Cream from Pretty in Pink Fitness

I know it’s winter time but I still enjoy my “nice” cream this time of year! It might seem like a weird combination but I love to have nice cream with a cup of hot coffee.  Does that sound good to anyone?? You can add whatever fruits you like to this recipe.  The ones that I added in this recipe are my favorite types of fruit.


  • 3 Bananas
  • Almond milk
  • Walnuts
  • Fruits of your choice (I used strawberries, blueberries and pomegranates)



  • Freeze bananas in fridge until completely frozen(I cut bananas in pieces before placing in fridge, and peel them)
  • Take frozen banana pieces out and put in a high speed blender with about 1/3 cup of almond milk and 2 strawberries
  • If it is not blending smoothly keep adding a few drops of milk at a time and keep blending.
  • If mixture becomes watery put in freezer for awhile to harden.
  • Before eating, add toppings of your choice, I used strawberries

Don't Get Caught Being the Stinky One.....

Today we are getting real and talking about one of those awkward, embarrassing moments that seems to happen at the worst possible time.1

Know what I'm talking about yet!?!?

Well let me give you a play-by-play.

It's 7PM on a Monday night, and I'm at the gym preparing to teach my evening Yoga class.  I've run several miles in the morning, and done a 1hour Stroller Strides workout.  I have been around town running errands, had a coffee date with a friend, and cleaned the house. My Yoga class begins, and when I begin reaching my arms up (which you tend to do a lot in Yoga), I start to get a whiff of know something not so pleasant. It could be someone in my class, but as the instructor, I'm more isolated, not standing close to anyone. The smell is really beginning to annoy me, so at a moment when we are holding our arms up for a moment, I take a quick sniff at my arm pit...YEP IT'S ME! I AM RANK! .....but what's even worse. I look up to see one of my students obviously noticing that I am sniffing my own arm pit! 


And what is even worse, is if I have been smelling like this all day while running errands and chatting with friends over coffee! Why didn't someone tell me? Why didn't I notice or think to put on deodorant to at least cover it up? Why didn't I take a shower after I worked out!?

We've all been there I'm sure! But taking a shower every time we work out just isn't always doable. I mean most of the time we are doing good to be able to make time to run to the gym and get in a quick sweat sesh before our next appointment or responsibility. Maybe you workout in the morning before work, or over your lunch break, or maybe you go for a run after work, before you get the kids from soccer practice.  Either way, I commend you for finding time to work out in your busy life. Now, if we could just fix this B.O. problem without having to take a shower every time we break a sweat.

SPEAKING OF THE INSTRUCTORS..... has awesome instructors.  Each class I have taken, has had nothing but professional instructors, but it's also great because they have a wide variety of instructors, so you can take classes with various styles.  Obviously, I love the Yoga classes, since I am a Yogi at heart, so I appreciate different styles and techniques that Yoga Instructors carry, and I enjoy learning from them.  Don't worry though, if you aren't a has way more to offer than just Yoga!


No matter what kind of workout you are looking to get, they've got it, and they are adding to it often.  They have cardio classes, strength, classes that use weights, classes that have specific muscle focal points. Plus, whether you have 20 minutes or over an hour to spend working out, I have seen classes that offer it all.


On Monday night, I put my baby to sleep, and my husband was working in the garage, and I felt like I needed a little me time before getting to work on our at-home business orders. So, I found a 20 minute Yoga workout! It was just what I needed at that time.  Just enough to get my heart going, and a small sweat on, but still left enough time to get some work done! Plus, I did it in my bedroom, I didn't even have to leave my house!

Smoothie Series WEEK 4-Great Smoothie Recipes from Fitness Bloggers

Welcome to WEEK 4 of the Naturally Fit Smoothie Series!! I've got some awesome Smoothie Recipes from other Fitness Bloggers to share with you! If you read WEEK 2 of the series, you saw my TOP 2 FAVORITE SMOOTHIE RECIPES, but now I am some awesome, original recipes from other bloggers, and these are way fancier than mine! 

So get your pallets ready and take a look at these great recipes!

Here's some of my favorite recipes from some amazing fellow Fitness Bloggers: 



Ginger is such a great ingredient that can be used in many ways and offers a number of benefits including:

  • Aids in digestion and combats stomach aches and discomfort
  • Alleviates symptoms of motion sickness and nausea
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves your immune system and helps fight colds and sickness

Ginger Green Smoothie Recipe

  • 12 oz. coconut water
  • 2 handfuls of baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh ginger – sliced or crushed
  • 1 scoop protein powder of choice (I use GNC’s vanilla egg protein.)

CRANBERRY CHIA SMOOTHIE from Getting' My Healthy On Cranberry-Chia-Smoothie

Cranberry Chia Smoothie is a fruity and super healthy smoothie recipe, using Greek yogurt, fruit, spinach, and chia seeds


  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • handful spinach
  • 1/2 c Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 c cranberries
  • 1/3 c blueberries
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • optional: 3/4 c liquid of choice (water, juice, milk, etc)


  1. Blend all ingredients until smooth.

PEACHY GREEN SMOOTHIE by Kate Moving Forward



1 1/2 peaches (Mine were canned so I also added about 2 Tablespoons of the peach juice.)

1 banana

1-2 cups baby spinach

1 teaspoon flaxseed

1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Designer Whey)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)

6-8 ice cubes


Layer all ingredients except for ice in blender. Blend on medium speed until well combined and smooth. Add ice cubes and blend again until thick and creamy. Slurp up!



Chocolate layer
  1. 1 maca chocolate bar (Vega)
  2. 1/2 c unsweetened almond milk
  3. 1 small banana
  4. 1/2 tbsp black chia seeds
Orange layer
  1. 2 pitted dates
  2. 1/2 c pumpkin puree
  3. 1 medium orange, peeled
  4. 1/4 c yogurt (try almond or coconut yogurt for a fun twist!)
  5. 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  6. 2-3 dashes pumpkin spice
  7. Splash of vanilla extract
  1. Make the chocolate layer. In a blender, pulse the chocolate bar until it's in fine pieces. Add in the almond milk, banana and chia seeds. Blend until smooth.
  2. Make the pumpkin layer. Soak the dates in warm water for 2-3 minutes to soften up a bit. Blend with the pumpkin puree, orange, Greek yogurt, cinnamon, pumpkin spice and vanilla.
  3. Pour the chocolate layer into a cup before the pumpkin layer. Stir together and enjoy!



  1. 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  2. 1 handful of ice
  3. 2 heaping tbsp pumpkin puree
  4. 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder (I used Puritan's Pride Vegan Chocolate with Quinoa & Oats)
  5. 2 tbsp cacao powder
  6. 1 scoop Superior Greens
  7. 1 bag pumpkin spice tea (bag ripped open, use leaves only)
  8. 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds for topping
  9. 1 tbsp cacao nibs for topping
  1. Blend all ingredients together except seeds and nibs.
  2. Pour into large glass and top with pumpkin seeds and cacao nibs.
  3. Enjoy! :)

Welcome to Week 3 of our Naturally Fit Smoothie Series, which is all about the nutritious additives you can put in your smoothie!

You are probably wondering, what can be more nutritious that a cup full of fruit!?!? Well today I'm going to tell you my TOP 5 NUTRITIOUS ADDITIVES when it comes to making smoothies!

Protein Powder:

 There are so many brands of protein powders out there.  When finding one, I would suggest finding a natural, or plant based powder, here are two suggestions from previous reviews we have done: Skoop & Manitoba Harvest Both are plant based, and have great flavors.

I personally use protein powder in my smoothies because I use smoothies as meal replacements, and sometimes, post workout nutrition.  When it is as a meal replacement, it's important for me so that I am able to stay full longer.  When I am using a smoothie as a post workout drink, the protein aids in muscle recovery.  (more about that HERE)

Green Veggies:

My two favorite green veggies to add to my smoothies are: 


Kale is high in beta cartene and vitamins K and C.  It also contains sulforaphane, and indole-3-carbinol. Screen Shot 2014-10-23 at 10.39.39 PM


Spinach is full of antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E, K, B2, and B6, magnesium, manganese, folate, betaine, iron, calcium, potassium, folic acid, copper, protein, phosphorus, zinc, niacin, selenium, and omega-3-fatty-acids. Screen Shot 2014-10-23 at 10.39.59 PM

So basically, adding greens to your smoothie is AWESOME FOR YOU!!! So DO IT!!

And don't be afraid of them! Just a handful of greens and you won't even taste them, your smoothie just might have a hint of green color to it! I love adding a handful to mine just because that means a little more vegetable intake for that day, and a whole lot more of GOOD NUTRITIONAL VALUE in my smoothie!

Chia Seeds:

Same seeds used to create a CHIA PET! You know those little grass heads sold on TV Info-mercials in the 90's! These seeds are FILLED with Omega-3-fatty-acid and are also dietary fibers.

Some people even let these sit for a while, because as they sit in liquid, they become little jelly capsules, so they thicken up your smoothie! Yum! Or add them to a bowl of yogurt or oatmeal!

Flax Seeds:

Screen Shot 2014-10-23 at 10.31.32 PMFlax seeds are high in dietary fiber, micronutrients, and omega-3 fatty acids, and have about 800 times the amount of antioxidant lignans of any other plant.

I have used the ground version or whole seeds in my smoothies, but usually the whole seeds get grounded some by the blender anyways.

Peanut Butter

A balanced source of energy, and supplies all three macronutrients. About 13% carbohydrates, 15% protein, and 72% fats. Great to add in for an extra boost of protein, but also be careful not to add too much, and go overboard with it.

Be sure to get natural peanut butter though.  Many regular peanut butter brands actually have sugars added to them....why did they ever do that? I don't know, in my opinion, a natural peanut butter has plenty of sweetness to it! So GO NATURAL!

These are my TOP 5 most used Nutritious Additives in my Smoothies, but I asked fellow Health & Fitness Bloggers, and here's some others they often times add.


-Almond Butter -Full of nutrients and vitamins, and has different nutritional values than peanut butter.

-PB2-a low calorie powder form of peanut butter

-Bee Pollen -claimed to be nearly 40% protein and contain all nutrients required by humans

-Maca Powder - a Peruvian root powder that contains many vitamins, aids in energy, and more.

-Cacao Nibs -crumbles from whole Cacao beans, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fibers, and adds a natural chocolate flavor!

-Coconut Oil -claims to be easy to digest, and to help boost metabolism.

So in your adventure to become a Pro-Smoothie Drinker, I hope this helps!!!

Pick a couple of these on the list that interest you or seem like they would benefit your body and diet the most and go with it! You don't have to do them all!

Well-Living Wednesday & My Fave Way to Eat Sweet Potatoes

It's Well-Living Wednesday, and today I'm sharing with you my favorite way to eat sweet making Sweet Potato Chips!

Last week in my post "I want to be just like you," I wrote about how we need to be examples to our children, and those around us by choosing a healthy lifestyle, rather than going along with the fast paced life of processed snacks and fast food meals!

It's easy to use the excuse of not knowing what healthy snack alternatives to choose, so I'm going to make it easy by giving you some ideas! Recently in my house we have started making Sweet Potato Chips on a weekly basis! They are such a yummy way to eat sweet potatoes, and a great alternative to a bag of process chips! 10733374_305937026266004_989273959_n

Sweet Potato Chips

-Peel the sweet potatoes, then use the slicer side of the cheese grater to cut the sweet potatoes into chip style strips.  Toss the strips in a bowl with olive oil, then lay them out on a pan. (Using a pizza pan with holes in it cooks them the best) Lightly sprinkle with salt.  Cook at 200 degrees for 2 hours. (or you can put them in a dehydrator.)

Like my Kale Chip Recipe, these never seem to make it further than the pan.  Every time we make them, we stand over the finished product and eat them all up, even when I am trying to save some for later! They are that good!

So make the choice this week to switch out the bags of processed potato chips in your pantry for some homemade Sweet Potato Chips! & if you like those, then be sure to check out my recipe for Kale Chips and add those to your weekly snack rotation as well!

There are so many great options, and I'm sure the entire family will love them!

How to Balance Your Grocery Cart & WLW 12

How do you go to the grocery store?? 

Do you go with a plan? 

Do you have a list? 

Do you have 5 different lists? 

Do you have a menu made for the week, or for the month?

Do you have a budget on how much you will spend? 

Do you go when you are hungry? (bad idea!)

Do you have set foods that you buy each time you go to the store? 

Today we are discussing HOW TO BALANCE YOUR GROCERY CART! So whether you go with a menu in mind, a specific plan, or a budget, or you just randomly decide to go pick up groceries for the week without a plan of what you are getting, this BALANCE will help you map your way through the store, and if you stick with it will result in healthier choices for your grocery shopping!


So here's the plan!

In order for you to pick the healthiest, and closest to their natural form foods, you need to look at your shopping cart with an 80-20 ratio!


On the 80% side, you are looking at whole foods. 

Things like your:







The 20% would consist of your more processed foods: (in my cart this would be...)


-Canned black beans and corn


-Pizza Sauce

-Blue Corn chips


You get the idea! 

But here's the SECRET! Think about your grocery store this way, and the way you shop could change drastically!

The 80% of your shopping should come from the outer edges of your grocery store! Stay on the perimeter for 80% of what you buy, and your cart will be full of those things mentioned above.  The fruits, veggies, meat, dairy, etc.  Picture the store that you buy groceries at in your mind, and imagine the items on the 80% list. Those are the things that you will find in the perimeter of every grocery store! SO! Stay along the perimeter of the store and you will be getting better foods, that are most likely at their most natural state.

Then, for the 20% of your cart you can snag things from the inner aisles, but keep those at minimal.  Buy your veggies fresh, not canned or even in steam able bags! I know it is much easier to pop open a can or toss a bag in the microwave, believe me, I do it too! But lately I have been trying to buy more of my veggies, my dinner sides at their raw, natural state.  Even if it take me a little longer to cook it.

I really focussed on this rule today while shopping, and this was my cart just from the produce was already full!


Then I kept all my items from the perimeter in the big part of my cart, and the top basket I used for the 20% of my shopping, the inner aisles.  I came home feeling so good about myself and my grocery store visit!


So try it next time you go shopping, see if it won't change your perspective when it comes to filling your basket with foods! Just remember 80% of your foods should be picked up from the perimeter of the store, 20% can be picked up from the inner aisles! 


Here's my weigh in for Weightloss Wednesday! 

Although I am still at the same weight, I am happy with it! I know once my knee heals and I am able to incorporate more cardio into my workout again, then I will begin to see changes again! I'm excited to continue challenging myself to make healthy choices when it comes to eating though!!
