How To Make Working Out Something You Enjoy!

Here's the problem...people don't workout because they don't enjoy it. 

Last night I looked in the mirror as I was getting ready for bed. My muscles super fatigued from my recent leg workout, and I thought..."You know, I REALLY ENJOY working out." 

I'm not sure when this concept switched for me. When working out became fun and something I desire/crave versus something I have to or need to do to lose weight or stay fit. But I'm so thankful it did. I looked forward to working out and getting active. I look forward to sweating, moving, and stretching! 

How can you get to that place of ENJOYMENT?

Here's 3 Tips to Make Working Out Something You Enjoy:

1) Make it something you can do!

-If working out is not something you do often, don't make the hardest class at the gym the one you go to to try and get back into the swing of things. When you try something too hard, where you feel like you aren't getting any of the moves or able to make progress, it will more than likely discourage you from continuing. 

Find something that challenges you, but doesn't make you feel like a total failure! Little victories spike your enjoyment and create a desire to keep trying and keep getting better. 

2) Make sure the workout you choose isn't too long, but fits your time schedule

-If you only have 30minutes, don't try to fit in an hour workout. If it's longer than you have time for, you won't stick to it. Other things will take priority. Decide how long each day you have to commit to working out, and find a workout that fits that amount of time! THEN GET IT DONE!

3) Make it something FUN!

-So as you all know I am 2.5 months postpartum. I've recently done two things to make working out something that is fun and desirable for me. Because even though I enjoy it, when you are just getting back into it, it can most definitely still be difficult to be motivated. First, I have started doing a workout with my husband! This is so fun to me! I love to workout with him and us be challenged together! So it makes me more motivated to do and stick to the workout! Secondly, for a little cardio, this week I started the new Beachbody Country Heat Workout! It's amazing! It's country dancing. Great music, fun moves, plus lots of sweat! I've loved it and the fun of it has definitely kept me coming back each day! Let me know if you want to try out this workout!

We had friends over for dinner recently and decided on breakfast! Well with my first trimester kicking me in the tale, I didn't feel like cooking at all! Breakfast On My Mind! + A GIVEAWAY

Well one thing I just can't get enough of during these first week's of pregnancy......BREAKFAST!  That's right, I've got Breakfast on my mind!

I'm still a sucker for any breakfast food with blueberries in it! Like my yummy Sugar Free Blueberry Waffles!!! Get the original recipe here! Now these have been a go-to favorite for my family since I went fully sugar free in January, but this past week I decided to add something different to the recipe to make it even better!

The Regrets of a Pregnant Woman....

Wow....it's been a little over a week since I found out I was pregnant!  Pregnancy Announcement: The Regrets of a Pregnant Woman

Anyways I will say that even just this past week has been super hard on me! I have had zero energy, and have felt....like crap! I have had no desire to cook food, and a huge desire just to go out and grab fast food when I'm hungry. 

I have been good at eating fruit when I need a snack. Either that or saltine crackers. It keeps coming to mind for me though what my doctor said when I went to my 10 week appointment for my son Zander's pregnancy. My husband asked how important nutrition was at this time.....(we had several arguments over my lack of nutrition in the first trimester of that pregnancy), and the doctor said...."Right now, it's really just about surviving and eating what she can." Ahhhh.....such a sigh of relief. So I am trying to keep that in mind during this time as well....although it is super hard. 

I will say I have truly been craving and wanting cereal! 

Now, if you don't remember, back in January 2015, I made the commitment to go SUGAR FREE!! That's right, I gave up sugar all together! In drinks, in foods, period. I was done with sugar. And it has been a great year so far! I have loved this lifestyle of not worrying about eating sugar and having that guilty feeling after a long weekend. I have even had fun in the kitchen trying out new recipes. Right now though, the last thing I want to do is be in the kitchen. 

And when I'm craving cereal, and EVERY SINGLE CEREAL has sugar in it, I won't lie, the Regrets of a Pregnant Woman start coming out. 

Like did I really commit to that? 

Doesn't pregnancy dismiss that? 

Surely all my followers would understand!? 

But no, I am staying committed! Even through these pregnancy cravings! I have loved this sugar free lifestyle and I knew if I got pregnant it would be hard. BUT, I want this to continue being my life even after 2015. Many have asked if I will stay sugar free after the year is up. (My original commitment was the year 2015). And my answer is YES I will stay sugar free! 

For now though, I will keep begging my husband to cook for me while I lay on the couch, or take me out when he just can't do it. And I will keep working hard at staying fit as well! I want this pregnancy to be a fit one! And I know if I stay away from cereal and all the other sugar cravings, I will not gain 70lbs like I did in my first pregnancy!

I'll be sharing more on my desire to have a fit pregnancy next week, but for now, I will say that it has been so helpful to have the #BOSUStrong Challenge pushing me to be committed and stay fit! I love challenges with Fit Approach! They are inspiring and fun! 

Plus my little man loves working out on the BOSU with me too! Plus if you include valslides, or paper plates under your feet along with a Bosu, you are getting an incredible workout!! That's what I did today for some side lunges. I put valslides under my feet and slid them out and back in for lunges! It was super hard!!!

Showing my #BOSUStrong on my 28th Birthday!

That's right!!! It's my 28th Birthday!!!  I enjoyed a relaxing, super lazy weekend that was much needed. Then today breakfast with a few friends and lots of babies, lunch with my son and husband, then after teaching Yoga tonight I'll be enjoying an evening with some of my favorite friends! 

So instead of having a super celebration for my birthday today, I'm going to ask you to come back here tomorrow! Because we will be having a celebration that you will NOT want to miss!!!!

For today though, as I reflect on 28 years of life. The ups and downs, the tears and laughs, the adventures and vacations, the joy of my life, I am thankful for some many things! I am of course thankful for the people in my life, but today, when I think about ME, I am thankful for the life I have chosen to live. 

I made the choice to live a healthy and fit life. I have made the choice live the #LiveYourLegacy Lifestyle! I love that I went after my dreams of being a fitness instructor and that I am doing it now! I love that I spend my days getting to help and inspire others to live their best life by choosing a healthy and active lifestyle! I love that at 28 years old, after having a baby, that I feel the healthiest, fittest, and strongest that I have ever felt in my life! 

So to celebrate my strength, today I'm going to share 10 things that make me STRONG, and in light of it being the final week of the Bosu challenge and us focussing on what makes you BOSU Strong. Here are the 10 things that make me #BOSUStrong:

  • I am always optimistic and full of belief that good things can happen
  • I will always seek adventure and joy in life
  • I never say I can't do something, I'm always willing to at least try.
  • I do have cravings for unhealthy things sometimes, but I choose the healthiest version! 
  • I love to sweat with my favorite people! 
  • I am inspired to change the world! I want everyone to have the desire to be their healthiest, their strongest, and to Leave their LEGACY!
  • I love to encourage others to get out of their comfort zone and try new things.
  • I have a desire to live a life that matters!
  • I am proud of the risks I have taken in life!

How I #LiveInPrana Even on Vacation!

Yep, I made it back from vacation! We had a blast! Let me just say it's super fun to stay kind of local (about 4 hours from our home) and explore the state/area that you live in for all it's worth! We stayed about 50minutes from two major cities, Austin & San Antonio, Texas, and we got to enjoy those, plus so many more throughout our week.  One things for sure, my Prana clothes got me through the entire week!

We started our vacation by spending a night in Waco, Texas. We got to see the Fixer Upper's store (from HGTV), plus explore some fun around the city. And let me just say these Meme pants are my absolute favorite! I'll be honest, when I first got these I wasn't sure about the Cargo pockets on the side, but they are my fave! They add a uniqueness to the skinny jean! The fabric that these pants are made out of are incredible, and they are flexible and easy to move in! I can easily go from dressed up, to cute and casual, to all out hiking or handstanding all in the same pants!

Once we got to Austin, I had to take advantage of the FREE YOGA DAY! So I grabbed my husband for a Vinyasa Flow Class that ended up being the HOTTEST Hot Yoga Class I have ever taken, at Black Swan Yoga Westlake. Which was a great studio with awesome instructors! I enjoyed the class a ton. I also got lots of laughs seeing my husband slip and slide, and be drenched in sweat. (He's not a Yogi, so this was a true challenge for him). I on the other hand was decked out in Prana gear, and ready to sweat!

I wore my favorite outfit from their Spring collection!

  • The Ambrosia Tank, which was perfect for hot Yoga. It has super cute cutouts in it, which made it totally breathable. Plus the also band around the waste keeps it in place while also allowing for a flowy top. 
  • The Roxanne Capri in the orange pixel print. These are seriously some of my favorite leggings! I get so many compliments on them, and they are super flexible for all sorts of workouts.
  • I also used my Prana Yoga Mat which was a great companion for the sweat fest class we attended! Although myself and my mat were both drenched in sweat, I had no fear of slipping and hurting myself as I held poses.
  • You may also notice my Yoga Mat Rap, it's Prana too!

We also took some adventures while we were in the area, and found 2 amazing natural springs that are including in the Top 10 [Natural] Swimming Holes in Texas. The one pictured above is Jacob's Well! It's not only a natural spring that you can hike around and swim in, but there's also a 30 ft. whole in the spring that you can jump into! My amazing Prana swimsuit was incredible for this sort of adventure! Not only did I feel super cute, but the Tobago Bottoms which claim to be "a secure fit [that] will withstand heavy waves" measured up! While climbing up rocks to the top, and even jumping in the water I felt secure and these things stayed put! The same went for the Taala Top, when I jumped in I definitely expected to have to readjust my top before submerging from the water, but nope, to my surprise my top stayed in place!

Then....one of my favorite moments of my week happened! I got to take an Aerial Silks Class at 4 Elements Austin. Wow was this a rush! Seriously such an invigorating experience. The challenge that you get when you do a Silks class is so fun! And felt so good to be able to achieve and hold some of these moves. And once again, my all time favorite Prana leggings got me through it! These are the Gabi Leggings are amazing. The seems create a flattering look, plus the Chakara Performance Fabric is different. It's more of a cotton feel vs. a spandex. I love them! They are so comfortable and super cute on! They are most definitely my go-to's! I really need to get them in the other color!

We also played Top Golf, enjoyed a morning on the Tennis Court, and spent an entire day wine tasting at some amazing Texas Hill Country Wineries! We were so impressed by how much Texas had to offer!

Then I finished the week by joining my mom for some early morning Yoga and a mid-morning run. Plus we got to enjoy some amazingly cool weather. The first that I have felt in Texas, but we could definitely tell that Fall is on the way, so I pulled out my Ergo Leggings which are super stylish, majorly athletic and a great fit legging from the new Prana Fall line. And I had to throw on my  Ginger Top to stay comfortable in the cool weather!

3 Must-Haves for a Happy & Healthy Vacation

So there's this theory out there that hasn't really been solved. People, even experts have their opinions, but no one has said which is the end all be all when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. The theory....MODERATION!  When it comes to living healthy, eating healthy, does the common term, "Do everything in moderation" really apply. I have read that yes, you should have a cheat day or meal. Then I have read that ABSOLUTELY NOT! 

Being that I am sugar free, and know that sugar is addictive, when it comes to healthy eating, I lean more towards the strict healthy lifestyle, no cheat days, and moderation is not good. 

Now I will say that I do eat sweets, but they are healthy and sugar free! To me that is learning to live a healthy lifestyle. Feeding the sweet tooth with healthy foods rather than sugary, fattening foods! I have an entire list of SUGAR-FREE HEALTHY, Sweet Recipes here! Try them out! They will feed that sweet tooth, but you aren't "cheating." 

I have a similar theory when it comes to vacationing! I LOVE traveling and taking vacations! But since really jumping in to a healthy and active lifestyle, just as much as travel is one of my personal and family values, so is being active. So even on vacation, I find sugar free treats to enjoy, I eat well, and I workout and/or do active things. It's not as a chore either, it's because I LOVE IT and it's become my lifestyle. The best thing about vacations. (well maybe not the best, but as far as fitness and working out) You can try new workouts that might not be offered in your town. Where you will be having SO MUCH FUN you will forget you are actually working out! 

I love to take Yoga classes in new towns, and get different instructors perspectives. I love working out or running in new outdoor areas, and with my husband. I love going paddle boarding, or maybe taking a Barre class, which aren't things that are offered in my city. So plan those things! Make them a fun activity you do on vacation! 

I know we will for sure go paddle boarding, hiking, and maybe rent bikes! These are all easy and fun things that will make your vacation healthy & fun!

Here are my Top 3 Favorite Hamstring and Quad stretches! 

(I'm wearing the Ergo leggings and the Nixie top)

  1. Get your need as close to the wall as possible, with your shin against the wall, then lean back towards your foot. This is an incredibly deep QUAD stretch!

2. I love this stretch especially in my Yoga classes. Get in a low lunge with the back knee down, then sink the hips back towards your heel and extend the front leg. It's an amazing HAMSTRING stretch!

3. Another super deep QUAD stretch is this one! Get in a low lunge sinking forward very deep, and bend the back leg. See if you can twist around and grab the top of the foot. Be careful and take it slow. Don't try to push your body into this pose. Practice until your quads become to loosen up.

Inspired by my 5 mile training run last night, I decided to take today's FRIDAY 5 topic, and give you my TOP 5 SECRETS TO A SUCCESSFUL RACE! And really, they are the Top 5 things that you have to overcome, and then, then you will have a successful race, no matter what the distance! 

Are you wanting to have your most successful race yet, or maybe you are just getting started...here are @brittanysuell 's TOP 5 SECRETS TO A SUCCESSFUL RACE!

1. Just Start!!

-To have a successful race, you just need to START running! To do anything successfully, you have to begin, and in that, celebrate the small victories! From your first run, to your first race, celebrate! 

2. Nix the Negative Self Talk!!

-Alright, here comes the Yoga Instructor in me......You've got to think positively, and I don't just mean externally, but internally! When you are running, or preparing for a run, talk positively to yourself! Talk yourself up, and tell yourself how awesome you are and how good you will feel after you knock out that run! And when negative self talk starts up, SHUT IT DOWN!!! 

3. Be Gentle on and Listen to Your Body!!

-Challenge yourself, but don't push yourself too hard! Alright, here's the Yoga Instructor in me again: But listen to your body, know when it's time to stop, or rest, and take care of yourself! It's not worth pushing yourself into an injury! Be gentle, and recover properly! 

4. Be Prepared For Any Type of Weather!!

-If you are planning to train for a run, be prepared for the season that you are in or will be in. Weather can become one of our easiest excuses when it comes to training for a race. If it's too cold, it's easy to cop out and say..."I'm not going to run today..." Then one day turns into two, into three, and then you haven't run in a week or two....and that is not setting yourself up for a successful race. Believe me, I know I've been there and am speaking from experience! 

5. Train Properly!!  

-Getting a correct training program, no matter what the distance you are running, and stick with it. Stay consistent in your runs, running throughout the week, and one long run a week. It's hard on the body when you skip the short runs and just try to hit the long runs, (I've done this as well), and my training is not near as successful. So train right! And find out the proper way to hydrate and keep up good nutrition while training too! Here's some tips I shared previously about Half Marathon Training Nutrition

My No-Sugar Journey Update! by @brittanysuell  

Well, I've officially been a month and a half with pretty much NO SUGAR

WHAT?? Is that even real life? 

It has honestly been a fun journey for me. I have enjoyed learning. Even when I "fail." AKA start eating some peanut butter and realize after several bites that it has sugar. 

I'm definitely not beating myself up over a few bites of sugar-infested peanut butter. I did however put the jar up, and will start buying any nut butters naturally. (got to keep an eye on those nutrition labels...even in the "healthy" stuff)

The Sugar Detox

Here's a few things that got me through the weeks of what they call the "Sugar Detox."

Sugar Detox-the first several weeks of giving up sugar. When your body is telling your mind..."I NEED SUGAR." Even though you don't, you are just so used to it, and maybe even addicted to it that you think you need it! 

So, a few ways I tricked my mind into soothing it's sugar cravings, is by indulging in natural sugars! 

I was leaning heavily on fruits and their natural sugars during those weeks. Having about 4 servings a day. (now I've gone to about 2 servings a day). 

I also ate almond butter (the non-sugar infested one), with an apple literally every day! It was my go-to dessert! Or afternoon sweet snack! Soooo good! 

Just because an item contains sugar doesn't mean it's bad! 

One thing I have really learned more about is reading food labels! 

To start, I first look at how many grams of sugar the item contains. Then, once I see the amount of sugar, I look to the list of ingredients! 

Just because it has sugar in it doesn't mean it's bad and I can't have it. I have to find out where that sugar is coming from! 

If the list of ingredients says SUGAR...then that straight up means it's a no go. 

There are some items that will show sugar in the nutritional facts though, and not actually contain sugar. It will just be the counting sugar from the natural sugars or fructose that is in the product. A good example of this is the World Market Sweet Potato Chips. The label shows that it has a certain amount of sugars, but the ingredient list reads sweet potatoes, oil, and salt. There you have it. It's as natural as some baked sweet potatoes at home. All that sugar is just the natural sugar in sweet potatoes, which are SO YUMMY, and a great thing to eat all the time by the way! (and that don't need added brown sugar or marshmallows! FYI! because they are so sweet naturally, why do we think we need to add more stuff to them!?!? I don't get it!)

Do I still crave sugar? 

Well yes I do at times. BUT this has been the fun part of the journey! Learning to cook and bake various treats for my family that have ZERO SUGAR!! and they are still sweet! 

Say hello to my Blueberry Muffin Recipe! Yep that's real life! Blueberry Muffins with NO SUGAR! and so yummy! 

Banana Pancakes! Yep, I can still have pancakes! and I either eat them with a nut butter on top, or pure maple syrup!

*pure maple syrup is one of the tricky ones. It may say it contains lots of sugar, but if the ingredient list says "maple syrup" then you are good to go. Just have it in moderation.

Homemade Larabar Recipe! Such a yummy treat, and super nutritious! Plus this was the first time I cooked with dates. That has been a fun learning experience. 

Strawberry-Banana Nice Cream....a great snack for you or the kids! 

I also have a sugar free cake I've been playing with the recipe for. Trying to get it right for my son's first birthday in April. I'll be sharing that in the next month or so! 

HONEY is my new best friend! 

Dates & Honey are my go-to natural sweeteners! 

But honey, honey is my new best friend! 

I use honey to sweeten mostly everything! Even my coffee! It is so good in coffee! Even if you aren't even remotely interested in going to a SUGAR FREE life, I would still encourage you to try honey in your coffee! I even order my coffee at coffee shops, Starbucks included to be sweetened with honey. Just try it. Tomorrow morning, forgo your normal regime of coffee, and try it with a spoonful of honey and maybe some milk if you prefer! It's tasty!

 So there you have it, a little about my journey, and how it's been. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm cheating the No Sugar lifestyle by still getting to enjoy some of these yummy things. But then I have to remember, just because I'm doing no sugar doesn't mean that I don't get to eat good, or even sweet foods. Obviously I have to be careful not to over indulge, and still eat healthy, not just take the no sugar factor as all the weight of what I'm eating. But, it's nice to still be able to have something sweet sometimes.

How Bout a Sugar Free Recipe! 

How to make a yummy Acai Bowl! Full of nutrition, and topped with natural coconut and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts! From @brittanysuell

 

An Acai Bowl is a super easy and yummy snack to make for an afternoon snack, (especially when it starts to warm up), or as a late night snack or dessert. It has an ice cream like texture, but is fruity, and full of nutrition. Plus when you top this with all-natural Hemp Hearts from Manitoba Harvest, you're adding more protein and omegas to this already power packed snack! 

How to make a yummy Acai Bowl topped with Hemp Hearts!

First you will need some Acai.

They come in packs of 4 like this. You can find them in the frozen section!

Second, you will need Hemp Hearts!

You can get some of this nutritious goodness from Manitoba Harvest, or ENTER TO WIN SOME BELOW! 

Third, you will need a high powered blender and some milk of your choice.

1-Toss the frozen Acai Smoothie pack into your blender (I used one pack for one bowl). Add a little bit of milk. (I like to use coconut or almond). Blend on high. Add only a little milk at a time, and continue adding some when needed. You want the Acai to stay pretty thick, like ice cream.

2-You can add some frozen berries in with the Acai, or a frozen banana if you want a little extra flavor and more fruity goodness. 

3-Use an ice cream scoop to put it in a bowl. and top it with your HEMP HEARTS from Manitoba Harvest

4-ENJOY! 

*The Acai is a little tart, so you can always add a little honey to make it a tad sweeter.

What Does #LeaveYourLegacy Mean to You?

So as you know, when I launched the new blog rebrand in mid-January, a big part of that brand is: 

Live a life that is about more than you! Be Bold, Be Strong, Be Courageous, and Leave a Legacy for those you love! @brittanysuell

Now, I have  had time to mull this over, toss it around, and really evaluate what it means to me to #LeaveYourLegacy. So today, I'm going to share what it means to me, and I hope that at the end of this post that you can share with me what LEAVING A HEALTHY AND ACTIVE LIFESTYLE LEGACY means to you.  

Live a life that is about more than you! Be Bold, Be Strong, Be Courageous, and Leave a Legacy for those you love! @brittanysuell 

When I think about what kind of Legacy I want to leave, so many things come to mind. 

First off, who am I LEAVING a LEGACY for!?!

The obvious answer is my family. My son (future children). Beyond those that are closest to me that I love the most though, I want to impact even more than that. Even if it's only in small ways, I want my LEGACY to trickle into other's lives. My friends, those that I teach, my blog followers, even strangers that I just have random (fate) encounters with. I want to live a LIFESTYLE that is real, and bold enough that people can see the depth of me and pick up on little pieces of that, that can change their lives. 

Secondly, what kind of LEGACY am I LEAVING!?

I want to be strong, bold, courageous. I want to be a pursuer of goals, a dreamer, a person who thrives in the adventures (whether big or small) of life. I want to be real, and authentic. I want my children to grow up knowing that they can do anything that they set their minds to. Anything that they have vision for, they can pursue. I want people to see the go-getter-ness within me, and be inspired to push a little harder, and go a little further to achieve their dreams and desires. Mostly, I want to leave a LEGACY that impacts lives, upon lives, upon lives to come. I want to be real in who I am, in my health, and fitness goals. I want people to know that they can get healthy and active, no matter where they are starting. And I want them to see that living a healthy and active lifestyle really means that they will be living their best, most successful life possible. 

WHY? Why does all of this mean so much to me? 

I believe that when we are living a healthy & active lifestyle, that we are able to live Our Best Life. Our Happiest Life. Our Most Successful Life. Wondering why I say that?? Because when we are healthy and active, we have more self confidence. When we are moving, and doing things that are good for ourselves, taking care of our bodies, then we feel secure, and confident. Which means that we will love ourselves, which means that it will be easier for our children to love themselves and be confident just by watching us. When we are healthy and active, we are able to move, and do so many things. We have the ability to take chances, enjoy life's adventures, and even simpler than that, not be afraid to get on the floor or run around the yard with our children. When we are healthy, we spend less money on doctor bills, surgeries, and diseases, which means we have more money in our pockets. And although, of course money isn't the key to all happiness, it does ease our minds of worry and stress and make us feel happier in life. When we are healthy & active, we are not afraid to face life head on. We are able to be BOLD, CONFIDENT, STRONG people who go after their dreams, and that, that makes us HAPPY!

I LOVE FITNESS!.....Annoying or Inspiring!?

When you love fitness, are you annoying, or inspiring to those around you? \ I love FITNESS and HEALTHY LIVING! I love being ACTIVE, and learning new things about good NUTRITION!

Does that make me annoying, or inspiring to others!? 

When you are enthusiastic about something, whether fitness or something else, you walk the line of being annoying to people, or inspiring to people.  For some people, they are going to get annoyed with anything, so for those I say don't worry about it! 

From the aspect of being enthusiastic about fitness and healthy-living, I will share what I think. 

I believe that when you are consistent with things, when you are kind and gracious about the things you share. When you are real about the struggles, not just sharing the !!AWESOME stuff! When people can relate to you. When you offer good, easy to pick up advice. When you talk about things other than fitness. I believe having a good balance of this, can take you from annoying to inspiring. 

I do believe that if fitness is ALL you talk about, then it can be annoying. If you can't have one night out without talking all about your workouts and what you are eating, or bringing the attention to your food choices, then you are playing with the line of becoming annoying, even for your close friends. 

There is a balance to find. You must understand that even when you LOVE something, and you think EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE IT! That is not always the case, and you have to be okay with that. 

What I have found is that by living life like I do, being passionate yes, but even more than that, being consistent with a healthy lifestyle, and not PUSHING MYSELF or my FITNESS ENTHUSED ideas on everyone. When I do that, opportunity or advice seeking people come to me. Which I love! I love it when people seek me out to help them! It makes me feel good because I see that people notice my dedication and respect me enough to ask for advice. It also makes me happy because I am able to help someone and share the #LeaveYourLegacy lifestyle with them! 

People will notice when you are consistent. People will notice when you are dedicated. And in their own timing, they will respect that, and might even come to you for advice on how to get healthy! 

So my encouragement, when you LOVE FITNESS, and see the importance of LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE! Be you, be yourself in every area of life! Be real! Stay dedicated. And you will see that people notice it and they will be inspired by it!

When you become a mommy, you become a mommy. Being a mom becomes a huge part of your identity

Your duties at home double, quadruple maybe. 

Added to the cleaning of the house, laundry, dishes, planning meals and cooking them, that you were already doing as a single woman and/or wife.

Top that with feeding the baby, changing diapers, washing more clothes, playing with baby, making sure you are doing the things you need to in order to cultivate learning in your baby so that they are "keeping up" and progressing smoothly to the next stages of life. 

Mommy's have a lot of duties.  Even mommies who are blessed to have a wonderful husband to help around the house, like myself, there are still Mommy Duties that are mommy duties. 

Oh and did I mention all of this is usually on top of working some kind of job. (I commend and pray blessings on you mommies who work full time jobs as well as all of this). I am blessed to be able to stay home with Zander, while also doing my part of the at-home "hustlin" as we like to call it around here to make some income! (Let's just say I have a lot of little jobs, and we have our own small business that I manage)

In all of these duties, and lists of things that we as mommies are responsible for, where do WE come in. Not to say that we don't enjoy doing these things, because I don't take for granted how HUGE of a BLESSING IT IS TO BE MOMMY.

But in all the Mommy, do you ever feel like you have lost yourself!?

Just as important as it is to take care of our home and family, and be a good mommy, it's also crucial for us to take care of ourselves! When we are thriving in our own identity, (not just as mommy), then we are able to be the best version of us for ourselves, our children, and the world around us! 

HOW TO THRIVE IN YOUR IDENTITY: (Finding Balance as Mommy & as Myself)

Start by asking yourself a few questions: 

(avoid answering with things about our children)

  1. What do I love to do? 
  2. What things bring me peace? 
  3. What things make me the happiest? 
  4. When I do this/have done this, I feel like I can conquer the world? 
  5. What is one of my responsibilities that brings on the most stress in my life? 

Tips: 

1. Figure out the things you love to do, or that brings peace in your life, and make those a priority? 

-This can be as simple as having a cup of coffee in the morning, alone. So if that brings peace in your life, then make it a priority to wake up 15-30mins early and enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings. 

-If this is having a girls night out with your friends, or a pedicure once or twice a month, then make it a priority. Talk to your significant other and let them know how beneficial this would be to you. Or plan to get a babysitter for those nights. MAKE IT HAPPEN! 

2. That thing that makes you feel like you can conquer the world! DO IT, and then go conquer your world!

-For me, there are two things. When I have worked out! Because duh, when I work out, I feel confident, and healthy! This sets me up for healthy choices, to be happier (scientifically working out makes you happier), makes me feel like I'm taking care of myself. So in return, I am happy to help take care of everyone else. Meal planning is easier and I"m thinking on a healthy level for myself and my family. I just feel good about myself! I'm working out every day then! right!?!? 

-Another thing, may sound silly to some, but when my home is clean and in order, I feel like my life is together and I can do anything. Let's get real though, when you have kids, it's harder to keep everything clean. Recently, I got my husband to take my son to church, and I stayed home just to have extra time to deep clean out house. It was worth it and I felt great starting the week cleaned and organized. It might even be worth it to you to "outsource." Pay someone to clean your house when you just don't have time, once a week, or once a month. Don't feel bad about it. If that helps you be a better you and have more time for you, then do it! 

3. Have adult time

Having adult time, and that doesn't mean going to work at the office, that means getting a baby sitter for date night's, or nights out with the friends. Even just a couple of times a month, this can be hugely beneficial for remember who you are, and being you (not mommy). When you are leaving the kids at home and getting out, you are forced to be you, and not hide behind your children or your mommy duties. You get to have real conversations, real fun, not worried about or watching out for anyone but yourself. It's fun, and you may see a side of you come out that you haven't seen in a while. 

4. Find a Hobby

Find something you enjoy doing. Something that doesn't stress you out, but makes you happy, and then do it! And do it often. This can be what you do early mornings, during nap times, in the evenings, on the weekends. Just make time for it, and be happy while doing it! 

5. What is your purpose, what are you passionate about, do it! 

Sometimes, after you get thrown into the swings of being a parent, and you have been living, breathing motherhood and your sweet baby, you come to this place of wondering what your purpose is in life. Obviously, a valid answer and for some this is IT, could be, Being a Mom. And that is great. But for some, there's more! So taking time to discover yourself, what you are passionate about, what makes you feel like you have purpose and are making a difference. Those things are important too! This may be a very hard tip for some, because it takes time, and a lot of self-awareness and self-discovery to figure out. Don't be afraid to try out different things, even things that might involve your children. Just start the journey to figuring out what it is that you are passionate about. I think it's important for our children to see us pursuing these things as well, because it teaches them that life is more than just about us. It teaches them to go after things bigger than themselves in order to make a difference and change the world around them! 


 Being a mommy is such a blessing, but knowing your identity as YOU, while being a mommy is a blessing to yourself and everyone around you! Take time for this and discover you!

1. I am a mommy

2. I love coffee, and drinking it makes me feel at peace, and calm.

3. Working out is a big part of my life. That's how I make money, that's how I impact the world around me. I include my son in working out, in order to teach him the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. This encompasses, what I do for myself, for others, what I'm passionate about, my blogging, etc. 

All these things matter to me, and describe who I am. So I recently got this necklace from Love Fitness Jewelry. It shows each of these things. I love wearing it to show off what I'm passionate about, but also to remind myself of what's important. Even if the coffee sounds silly, it has meaning to me, and that is what's important.

Homemade Larabar Recipe

I don't know about y'all but when it comes to the weekend, I look forward to doing my grocery shopping because that means I can buy new ingredients and try new recipes! Especially since I started my journey of NO SUGAR IN 2015, I am loving trying out new, SUGAR FREE recipes!  So last weekend, I decided to try my hand at making something using dates as the sweetener. I've seen this in all sorts of healthy eating recipes. Dates are known as the natural sweetener for healthy, No Sugar Added recipes, but I have never used them. So, I decided to make my own Homemade Larabars! And what do you know, they turned out awesome! 

So, here's the recipe! I wish you a wonderful weekend full or fun times in the kitchen making these yummy goodies for the entire family! 

I'm telling you, take just an hour or less out of your weekend to prepare a batch or two of these for the week and use them in the kids lunch, or as their after school snacks! Think of how much better these are for them than any processed, store-bought snack that you usually give them. "HELLO...! Did you Hear me say NO SUGAR!" Don't make excuses, make these, and start creating healthy habits in your kiddos! (#LeaveYourLegacy) Yes, I'm trying to guilt you into this! I just know how easy it would be to by the boxed snacks rather than spend a little extra time making these, but it is so worth it

Setting Goals Before You #TaketheLeap

Set some goals to improve and Join the #TaketheLeap 30-day Yoga Challenge with @brittanysuell @prana @fitapproach As I mentioned on Monday, I am the Challenge Leader for the Prana & Fit Approach 30-Day Yoga Challenge, #TaketheLeap! It's only day 3, but I'm already having so much fun following those that are a part of the challenge!  I realized yesterday, that if I'm going to be doing 30 Days of Yoga, that I need to set some goals for this challenge! For many, this challenge might be a way for them to gain flexibility, get moving every day for 30 days, find a little time for themselves, gain some way of stress relief and peace inducing time with Yoga. There are all sorts of reasons to take part in a challenge. Maybe it's just to try something new and BE CHALLENGED!  For me, I do Yoga in a class setting at least 3 times a week. Then on my own at home some as well. So I'm definitely doing Yoga on a normal basis.  So what might my Goals be for the #TaketheLeap Challenge.  Here's what I've decided: 

1. Do a handstand a day. Starting with 10seconds, and adding 10seconds a day. 

I chose this because before I got pregnant I was really practicing inversions and handstands, but I have since stopped doing that. I want to get better at handstands and stronger. I want to be able to just throw myself into a hand or headstand anywhere for a fun picture, etc. With enough strength to hold it, and enough courage not to be against a wall. So my goal is to practice hand standing throughout these 30 days, and to gain more control and courage in them!

2. To do more Yoga at home.

Although I teach Yoga and go to classes, I don't take advantage of really  practicing Yoga at home. So I commit to practicing at least 10 minutes a day at home Yoga. 

3. To grow in my backbends. 

I love backbends, and I don't mean just traditional wheel pose, I mean backbend poses, and I want to gain more flexibility in my backbends. So throughout my daily at home practice, I am specifically going to focus on backbends, and I hope to see some change!

Everything You Need to Know to #TakeTheLeap

If you haven't heard, then no worries, I am here to answer all the questions that you may, or may not have about the Yoga Challenge.  And....if you are thinking Yoga is not for you, then hold your horses....because you are going to want to be part of this challenge.  There are great perks, the moves can be done by beginners or advanced yogis, and taking a little time to stretch, and breathe more could do your body good!

 What is it? 

-It's a Yoga Challenge hosted by Prana & Fitapproach.  Basically, as Prana launches their Spring line, they want to motivate people to DO YOGA every day for 30 days!! So they have challenge leaders, (uh-hum) that's me! Who will post Yoga poses on their social media sites every day for everyone to do.  

How long does it last? 

-The challenge goes from February 2-March8th, 30 days total.

Who is it for? 

-ANYONE!! Wahoo! and Everyone! Basically, if you have never done a Yoga pose in your life, this challenge is for you. AND....if you are an advanced Yogi, this challenge is for you! 

But, I never do Yoga, can I even do these poses? 

-Yes! As one of your challenge leaders, I plan to show basic poses, and advanced options so that everyone can participate.  And if this is your first time, take the basic moves and enjoy them! It's part of Yoga to be happy where you are in a pose, and to grow as you practice.  Who knows, some of the poses might even be easy enough that you want to try the advanced poses! No pressure though, just do what your body is capable of! 

How do I participate? 

-Great question! So, FOLLOW ME! I will mostly be posting on Instagram, so you definitely want to follow me there. I will also post photos of the poses on my Facebook Page as well, but I can't always get videos on there, so INSTAGRAM is definitely where you want to be following! 

  • Each day I will post a video and/or a photo with the pose of the day on it, with some instruction for you. 
  • I encourage you to practice the pose for 3-5minutes a day. 
  • Then post a photo and/or video on your own social media site
  • Be sure to tag @Fitapproach @Prana @Brittanysuell #TaketheLeap #LeaveYourLegacy
  • You can also join the Facebook Group for the challenge.  Lot's of awesome people will be there cheering each other on, and posting their daily posts there!

ActivMotion Bar Review + My Top 5 Indoor Workouts

HAPPY FRIDAY Everyone! Now I know, in some parts of the U.S., it has been incredibly cold, but let me just say that in my part of Texas this week, the weather has been incredible! It has been anywhere from the 50's, to close to 80degrees out! It has definitely felt like Spring and I have loved it! This week we I had several great runs in the amazing weather, got to do my Stroller Strides workouts outside, plus I even took blankets to the park and relaxed with friends and our babies! Can you say HELLO SPRING....just kidding. Texas weather is crazy, so next week there could be ice on the ground, and I won't be as lucky to get all these great workouts done outside. So, what do you do when you are snowed in, or just aren't very keen on working out in the cold??  Today I'm sharing my TOP 5 Indoor Workouts with you, and I'll be linking up with the Friday Five linkup party! Let me just start by saying that you will NOT find running on a treadmill in my top 5! I recently did that and realized I dislike it a LOT, but that's always an option if you have access.

1) ActivMotion Bar + Yoga Warrior Workout! 

Here's where it gets fun! I am so excited to share this great product and workout with you! I recently received my own 10lb ActivMotion Bar through Sweat Pink, and was able to try out some of the awesome workouts that they offer! Which are seriously great! Such great core workouts, but I decided to mix my favorite indoor workout....Yoga, with the ActivMotion Bar and see what I could come up with. Let me just tell you, this workout is no joke! Think holding Yoga Warrior Poses on their own are hard...try doing it with the added core focus of the ActivMotion Bar, and you get a butt-kicking core and strength workout!

Okay, so what makes the ActivMotion Bar so special!?!? 

ActiveMotion Bar is a workout bar filled with rolling steal weights. That means that from the moment you pick up the bar, they are moving, and forcing you to find balance with the bar.  While working out with the bar, as they move from side-to-side, it creates a resistance for you, and causes you to find balance by using your core strength.  So throughout the Yoga workout I created, you are not only using strength for the various curls and rows that I have incorporated, but throughout the entire sequence, your core is majorly activated to hold the ActivMotion Bar in place, and move with it while holding your balance!
