40lbs Down, 1 Month Post Baby

Well my little man is 1 month old already, and I am slowly but surely seeing this weight drop! Actually it's going pretty fast, but that's probably because I gained 65-70lbs during this pregnancy!

That seems so crazy to me, so much weight to gain, but I am officially 40lbs down, and have about 25-30lbs more to lose! And I am quite encouraged with the fact that I haven't even started working out yet, so hopefully once I start working out then I really continue to see the results.1532130_734587969927111_1578367399037048371_n

  I have been very aware of what I am eating though, and counting calories using the app My Fitness Pal, (which is awesome by the way! It links with my FitBit so that is a lot of fun, and helpful!) Along with eating well, I have also been going on a lot of walks! Either I go in the evening with my husband, or me and my other mommy friends go together! Both is a lot of fun... I either get good time with my friends, or a nice family outing....I am actually really enjoying walking! Although I am super ready to start running.

Next wednesday will be my 6 weeks mark, so I think I will start doing some light workouts.  I plan to start with the Beach Body T25 workouts, since they are 25minutes, I thought they would be a good starting point.  Along with that I also plan on starting to run.  Slowly but surely I know, but I am excited! I am hoping to run a "Firecracker 4 Miler" on the 4th of July in my hometown.  That is my first running goal, then we will go from there.

And I couldn't give you an update on my weightless progress without showing you a little sneak peek of my adorable man on his 1 month day! Isn't he darling!! I made that bow tie for him! Actually, I am selling Father-Son bow ties in my Etsy Store, if you are interested! Perfect gift for Father's Day!

30lbs Down 2 Weeks Post Baby

Tomorrow my baby is officially 2 weeks old! Isn't he just perfect!

I am very aware that I need to take it slow getting back into working out, but to be honest....I am so ready!!

I am especially ready to start running again, I can't wait to start training for another half! I am hoping to knock one out in the Fall!!

Anyways, I know I have several more weeks of taking it easy and healing before I can get started in the workout department, but I am happy to share that I am down 30lbs!

I gained about 55lbs while being pregnant, and I haven't been perfect on the eating scale post baby, but I have upped my game and started eating more healthy since having the baby.  That, plus nursing, and the natural losing of baby weight, and I am so excited to be down 30lbs!

I have been wearing this Belly Bandit off and on since having the baby.  I won it in a Facebook giveaway this past summer, and heard that these type of bands are very helpful on teaching your stomach muscles to go back to normal.  So I have decided to try to wear it as much as possible.  Although I was having some lower back pain the past week and a half, and the strong belt support felt like it caused more pain at times, so I didn't wear it all the time.  I do feel like it helps support me though.  And, the day after in the hospital when I put it on, it barely went around me.  Now I have stretched it to the end of the velcro, so that's a good sign.

Yoga Challenge During My Last Month of Pregnancy....Why Not!?!?

I am almost 35 weeks pregnant! Next week will be a month from my due date! I cannot wait to have my sweet baby boy here with us!

Until then though, to pass the time I thought I would join in on a little Instagram Yoga Challenge!!

I mean what better way to pass my last month of pregnancy than to be in a Yoga Challenge!

I would love to have some of you join in with me! I got my mom to join, and this is her first ever yoga challenge.  She has only just started doing yoga for the past few months, and has learned to love it.  It is extra challenging for her too, because her back has always given her problems, so throughout the challenge she has commented several times about having a stiff back.  What better way to fix that though, than to practice back bends. All that to say, anyone can do it, because my mom is rocking it! Plus the hosts share multiple versions that you can try, from beginners to advanced, so you can always choose what is best for you!

Little Sis goes to Yoga Training! Plus a YOGI

On a normal basis I leave my mat, strap, and block in my bag! That's pretty roomie on it's own.  A few weeks ago though, I ran to the gym from my house (1.6miles one way), and did a yoga class then ran back.  All I took was my yoga bag, and I fit everything that I needed in it! I was so amazed! But even with just your mat in it, it's not TOO big.  It has a great/roomie inside zipper pocket, then two small outside button pockets.  I use those for my phone, headphones, money, etc.

Just So Flippin' Excited

little signautresHey everybody! Little Sis here, and I am JUST SO FLIPPIN' EXCITED!

Let me just start by saying I AM GOING TO BE A YOGA INSTRUCTOR BY NEXT MONTH!!!

OMG!

This summer has been crazy, with getting pregnant, and losing the baby, and all the emotions and hard times that came with that, then with trying to buy a house and going through a ton of hassles that put us off a month later than expected, we have done a lot of waiting around this summer.

And in the midst of all that we were going through, my husband and I felt that the Lord told us that we need to START DREAMING again! He minded me that what we are doing now isn't the "FULLNESS" of what he created us for, and he "Wasn't done with us yet!" So since that big revelation at the end of May, we have started dreaming!

Obviously I am very passionate about fitness! (that's why we have a blog about it :-) ) & I just love yoga! I love the way it makes me feel, I love the escape it gives me, I love being challenged and growing in my skill, flexibility, & strength, and I love it! And I have such a desire to teach it!

So that is why I am going to Austin next week to get certified! I am ecstatic, and cannot wait!

Then last week something great happened! Currently I work at a local university as the Student Activities Coordinator.  Well last week our fitness department called me and offered me the job as the Teacher for the Yoga Course that they offer as a PE Credit! And I accepted! I am so excited about this, and am just praying for the opportunity to teach yoga even more at local gyms, etc.

I am pumped about exploring my dreams, following my dreams, and getting opportunities to walk out in those dreams! I am so thankful that the Lord got our attention and reminded us to keep dreaming!

Gluten Free Cooking Class

 

So, a few weeks ago some friends and I signed up for a Gluten Free cooking class. We decided to make it a girl's night and leave the men at home!

We grabbed a few bottles of wine, and drove 15 minutes down the road to a nice restaurant in a tiny Texas town called Clyde! We were really excited.  As you know, I have only recently decided to start changing my eating habits! (You can read about my choice to Eat Clean Here.) So I was very excited that not only was I going to hear from someone that cooked organically in her own kitchen, but she also has a family, and her own business.  *Is this Super Woman?* I also loved that in her profile for the class it mentioned that she used to teach yoga.  Of course you know that I love Yoga, and even though I wouldn't say my deciding to Eat Clean came straight from getting more involved in Yoga, it may have had a little to do with it.  Either way, I was very interested to hear from Jaclyn Harwell from My Organic Kitchens.

Anyways, we had such a great time! Jaclyn shared her journey that led her to start eating semi-Gluten Free, which had a lot to do with her children's behavior.  In short, her son had very out of control behavior and after going to a doctor who suggested she take her 3 year old to a psychiatrist to be put on medication she had a serious change of heart.  It was such a moving story, to see a mom share about the struggles she went through, and that she actually thought she might go through with putting her 3 year old on medication.  That is when she decided to start changing her families diet.  She started with excluding sugars from their food, and it went on from there.  It was really neat to hear her point of view, and how she literally has her own observation lab in her home.  With small children, and a very aware mother, it is easy to notice how different foods affect her children and their actions.

We got to watch her make various foods, and try each one! Here are the items that we got to eat!

Bell Pepper "Nachos," where she used Sauerkraut as the cheese.  Honestly, I am a very picky eater, and never eat Bell Peppers, but on this night I ate every bit of the food she served.  And I really enjoyed the bell pepper nachos, of course I felt like they were more like tacos.  I have already made them at home for my husband.

We also had a Prickly Pear Lemonade.  I think that is a specialty that the restaurant Bonterra Blu serves all the time. This was the brightest colored drink I have ever seen and it had a very good taste to it!

Next we had Cauliflower Shredded Beef Wraps, I am going to get really real with yall here and admit that I have never had cauliflower in my life! But, like I said, I ate everything, and these were actually VERY Good.  I will definitely be trying this out in my home.  Plus the beef she got from the Abilene, TX local Farmer's Market, which I am excited to try out.

Lastly, was the yummy dessert! Yes you can have dessert when eating healthy, or Gluten Free in this case.  She made us Cheesecake! It was definitely delicious, and so interesting to see that she made the crust with mostly flax seeds and dates.

I would have to say that the biggest thing I took away from this class, the thing that has impacted me the most on a daily basis since then, is to use all natural honey as a sweetener.  The weekend after the class I went to our local Farmer's Market, and purchased organic honey.  I have never been big on honey, but since then I have used it in place of my artificial sweeteners that I am used to in my coffee: TASTES GREAT, and honestly with honey and my creamer, I can't taste anything different.  I have also included it in a few recipes that call for sugar.  One was a homemade fruit roll up that my sister and I made together! (I will be sharing that yummy and all organic recipe with yall soon!)

Weight Loss Wednesday #3

 Big Sis here.. Well this has been a heck of a trying week... I hate weeks like that, don't you? I am determined to not make it a month like that. This month presents lots of hurdles for me with moving and all of that... but I am determined AND I know that our NFS Weight Loss Wednesday Group will help hold me accountable. So this past week, I worked out 5 of 7 days! I am really proud of that.. however, like I tell everyone- if my eating isn't completely ON BOARD... nothing changes. We had a surprise "Florida Party" on Saturday night where I caved and ate way more food than I should have and my stomach is still recovering from it. (I am writing this on Monday since I will be without internet and driving on Wednesday). Have you ever noticed that when you eat well and then have that one splurge how it makes you feel? Holy cow... makes you wonder why someone would eat like that all of the time.

In our Weight Loss Wednesday Group we have a July Challenge going on. Each day there is a challenge that each of us do and check in with... I am excited to see where this takes us.. especially for me, since we will be driving or in hotels most of it! But I am determined! I am so proud when I see peoples success stories... but sometimes, deep down, it hurts too.. because I have SO far to go. I keep thinking how happy I was with myself last July/August and my body.. and I can't wait to get back there.. I want to be there again... I want to be talking about fitness all the time..... I don't want to be insecure with myself anymore! Pregnancy really changes a person. I wish I could be one of those that bounces right back after pregnancy, but it isn't me... but that is okay, because I probably appreciate it a lot more than I would- because I have to work so hard.

Today you don't get a picture of my scale nor do you get an update on my weight.. because well, with all the chaos of separating what we needed to take with us and what the movers needed to take, I forgot to grab my scale.. SO you will just have to wait. Which is fine with me, as I am sure it isn't pretty. I am having to tell myself.. just keep moving.... I can't go anywhere but down from here (literally, lol) if I try! If you have ever struggled with self image or weight you know how hard it is when you get down on yourself. To you- Just keep keeping on... I will too!

For me, Little Sis, this week, well mostly the weekend wasn't the best for me either.  We are moving as well, and last Wednesday we started staying at a friend's house, and packed up the rest of our necessities, including our bed, and kitchen.  Although we were staying at our friend's house where we had food and a full kitchen, the houses were miles a part, and we had to finish packing and cleaning our house by Sunday.  So we would just grab food from a restaurant! At first we made pretty good choices, like Jason's Deli, where I just got soup, but other nights we didn't make the best choices.  I did keep working out though, and I am so happy to see the scales go down.

I have realized though with my latest healthy eating decisions, that changes don't happen just from working out.  I ran two half marathons this year, and even running that much, I gained weight because my eating habits never changed.  And even though I struggled with eating some while moving, My healthy choices outweighed my unhealthy ones, and I worked out consistently and that showed results!

If you have been working out and have seen NO results, start changing your eating habits!! I'm sure you will see changes!

Cause I'm SASSY!

A couple of months ago we were both sent some amazing headbands and a key chain faub from Sassy Bands. If you have been following us for sometime you know that we love headbands. We have tried out a few and even sale some in our Naturally Fit Sisters shop. I can tell you that I wasn't expecting these bands to be too much different than some of the other that we have tried... but man, I LOVE them! You see, Big Sis here has this Big Ol' Round head... and it makes it hard to keep things on my head... but these stay on too! I love these because they are stylish AND fitness apparel.

Sassy Bands has such a variety of bands from size to style! It was so fun and HARD to chose which ones we wanted to try! They are constantly coming out with new ribbons that it makes you want to keep ordering more and more... this is a good thing. We both had the opportunity to review both solid, glittery, designed, and even worded items... and skinny and thick! We loved them all. The skinny ones are very stylish and can be worked to fit any outfit! We especially love wearing the glitter ones because they are just OH so cute! I, Big Sis, have to wash my hair EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING of my life or it will be oily, oily, oily. Lil Sis can go like a year without washing hers! :) With that said, the Sassy Bands are so great for me on those mornings I want to be rebellious and NOT wash my hair.

The Key Faubs are amazing. I would dare to say that I haven't lost my keys in sometime! :) I love it. Sure, I have been out of commission (running) for a few months, but my key faub is for sure encouragement to get going again!!! I have been using it since I got it a couple of months back and it is still clean... I know that Little Sis said that if she were to do it again she would get something with less white, though the orange fits her perfectly. I love mine and it has just as much white in it. So it would just be what you think is the best fit for you. I personally LOVE my key faub because it is so cute and different than what others have.

The key faubs are made very well. I have used mine faithfully, like I said, since I relieved it and it is not tearing or unravelling or anything. I have gotten many compliments about my key faub asking if I have made it. I sure wish I could take credit for it! I have had other ones but this one is made to hold up more than the others I have had. I like that they are shorter and thicker too, haha, just a personal preference.

Sassy Bands can make them in all sizes and styles... she even makes them for babies! I have been meaning to order some for my little lady, but life has been- busy! :) We tried to let her wear one, but it didn't work so well. You can see in the picture above how it is  on my head. The great thing about this band, I don't have to put bobby pins in it to hold it. The skinny ones hold better in my hair than the thicker ones... but it is quite possibly the silly round shape of my head.  Along with just how cute they are and how well they are made, I Little Sis have to say that they seriously do stay on so well.  We were at the pool for several hours the other day, and I wore one jumping in and out of the pool, playing with my nephew, throwing him around, etc. and my Sassy Band never budged! If I am not wearing a Bondi Band these days, the Sassy Band is my go to headband! Plus I just love shiny, glittery things! That is why all three of the ones I got, and my key faub are all glitter!!

Weight Loss Wednesday #2

Little Sis here.....back for week 2! I have really been enjoying Weightloss Wednesday and my endeavors of Eating Clean!!  You can read about that HERE.  It has made this whole process more fun, enjoyable, and really a fun challenge! Last week I weighed in at 163, and just days before that I was weighing in at 165! UGH!! And today I was proud to see the scales down to 160.5! I'm so ready to be in the 150's! Anyways, though, I did well this week, definitely not perfect, but still making solid changes to my eating habits & lifestyle!

It has been fun for me to discover new ways to eat healthy! I went to a Gluten FREE cooking class, not because I want to be Gluten Free, but just to learn healthier ways to cook.  It was fun with my girlfriends (post coming later), and it was very insightful! Along with this, I have been researching and having many conversations on how to eat better.

A few changes I have made so far include using honey to sweeten things, like my COFFEE! Big Deal for me, and I don't taste a difference at all.  (Plus I got the honey from the Farmer's Market).  And also having fun creating new healthy, all-natural snacks for myself! One I shared was the Strawberry-Lemon Protein Pops! Those are fun and so yummy! Next week I'll share about our homemade fruit rollups!  I started juicing this week.  Just started, only have done 3 glasses, and am really enjoying it so far!

Along with these things, I have also been adding protein to a lot  of my foods, (like my juices, or homemade snacks that I make), and I started this whole thing off with a supplement cleanse which ended today.  It did not necessarily affect my eating too much since I was already making changes! I can share more about that if you want later!

There has also been one other thing that has been a HUGE help in rebutting Weightloss Wednesday! Big Sis is going to share more about that! But I LOVE IT AND AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF IT!

Big Sis here.. This has been a great week! I didn't eat perfect at all and honestly just started working out again yesterday. I set a goal for myself to work out at least 30 minutes this week M-F. Monday and Tuesday are complete! Today I got the all clear at my 6 weeks, postpartum appointment so I am more than ready to get my hiney into running again!! I was so excited to step on the scale and see 191.0!! I was 196.1 last week! So exciting!

The biggest thing that has happened this week is that we have launched our Weight Loss Wednesday Team! We have a group of 15 girls who have come together and joined together in a private forum setting and we are sharing it all. It has really taken off this week and it is so exciting to have that encouragement. Some have shared pictures, weights, goals, etc. It has been a very active group so far and we are so excited for everyone that has been involved. We hope in a both six months to launch another WLW Team! We are so excited to see the changes that are going to come from our team!! We asked our members what there goals are in being part of the team and these are some things that we heard:

" "Friendly accountability" that one thing that is great about this group. We help each other by knowing we are accountable every week to each other. We will all be each others cheerleader or a shoulder when we need it. We're all in this together and as females young & uh~um not so young we all know how each other is feeling! Thanks girls!!" -Kendra

"I needed someone to hold me accountable! All day today I thought... well I could eat that but then I would have to explain to the ladies what happened. So I didn't  where as last week I probably would have. That's so awesome! I'm glad I have this support to get me through. "support group" or "support of the group" lol" -Katie

Healthy Choice Desserts

Last week I posted about our new adventures in Eating Clean! I am really excited to see where this takes me and my husband.  I have already felt changes in myself, and am excited to see and feel more!

When I first started thinking about making these changes, I realized I needed to find an alternative to snacks, or desserts.  I love cold desserts/snacks.  I love getting fro-yo, or Icee's, and I enjoy an occasional snack! Especially at night! So I had to think of something better for me than the norm.  I thought about making fun frozen treats, and the next day I saw a cook book just for that at Sam's! I bought it for $5.99....well worth it for me! Not only is this a great treat for me now, but it will be wonderful to have all of these fun recipes when I have kids.  Then I picked up these two packs of popsicle trays at Wal-Mart for $1.50 each!

The first popsicle I decided to try out was the Strawberry-Lemon Pop!

For this here's what you needed:

1-Cup of strawberries

1-Tablespoon of lemon

1-cup of milk

1/2-cup of yogurt (plain, but I used strawberry because that's what we had)

1-teaspoon of sugar

*At the time I made this I used Splenda, but I learned last week that it is better to use HONEY to sweeten things.  So that is what I used on the ones I made this week! & I have also been using that on my coffee too! :-)

**I also added my unflavored protein powder to add an extra punch of goodness in there!

Then you just stick it all in your blender until it is pureed.

Next you pour them evenly into the little trays! This recipe made a tray and a half of these!

Then I froze them overnight, and enjoyed them the next day!!

I'm telling you, you should definitely try these out! They are easy and fun, and can be all natural! I used all fresh, organic fruits, and organic milk & yogurt! So I feel great about eating these no matter what time of day it is! They could even double as a smoothie in the morning, with the protein and fruit, it's like a small smoothie on a stick!

Plus the kids will LOVE IT!

This is a great snack/treat for kids! Way better than store bought popsicles that are dripping with fake stuff and sugar!! :-)

Clean Eating

You may know that I, Little Sis have had 3 High School Asian boys living with me for the past two years.  In short my husband and I did a host parenting program.  We decided after two great years that it is now time for us to stop doing that and enjoy us together, and start working on our own family!!

Anyways, what's this got to do with Clean Eating!?!? LOL Well when you have 5 people in your house, you buy food that stays under your budget.  We didn't buy horrible food, but we shopped at Sam's, and knew exactly what we got each time.  Not a lot of thought going into it.  I mean I would meal plan but that was just to help with the budget.  (meal planning on a budget post here) I didn't think much about how we were eating health-wise as a family. I mean I would try to buy veggies, and fruit, but usually bagged, steam-able veggies or something.

Anyways, now that it is just my husband and I, I  have decided to start taking control of what we are eating and make changes! I am not doing this to be a part of some Gluten Free or Paleo fad that is going around.  I have read some about Clean Eating, and will continue reading more, but I understand the importance of eating more natural food, and less processed food.  But believe me, this is no easy task! I was raised on processed food, I love McDonald's, so this will be a challenge, but one I am ready for and excited to take!

One of the best things I read before starting this journey into Clean Eating is to think of it on an 80-20 scale.  80% Clean eating, 20% not.  And I don't think okay I'll buy this and then splurge for my 20%.  No the 20% is to help me, I am not doing this to punish myself, but because I want to.  So the 20% really does help! I mean I am not going to clear out my cabinets and waste food that we already have.  But from now on I am striving to buy more "Clean" foods, so that's the 80%.  I'll explain more below with my first Clean Meal!

But first, a few things I did to start my Clean Eating.  Find a local Farmer's Market.  I swear my city is WAY behind on health initiatives! But they still have a small Farmer's Market.  So I went.  I didn't need a ton because I had already gotten some fresh veggies from my Dad's garden, but I did get these two things.

Or maybe this is your chance to start your own garden! If you have the time and resources that could be fun! Just enough to feed your family!

Anyways, I bought fresh Kale & Cucumbers.  Here's what I use them for:

Cucumbers-I literally slice up and dip in ranch.  (Guess I need to look into buying organic ranch :-) But I eat it for lunch, dinner, snack.  I am not a HUGE Veggie eater so I take what I can get.  I will eat baby carrots with this too!

Kale-You wash it.  Thoroughly dry it.  Then lay it on a baking sheet, sprinkle Olive Oil on it and salt, and bake it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes and you get crunchy Kale chips.  The first time I had them I wasn't in love, but I tried again and am liking them.  The only bad thing is that Kale is a taste that stays in your mouth for a while :-)

NEXT:  I went shopping at our local Natural Grocer's store.  This is newer to my town, but most town's have something similar.

So here I am talking about EATING CLEAN, but maybe you don't even know what that means....

Yeah neither did my husband....In the middle of Natural Grocers my husband said...."What does ORGANIC even mean...!?!?!"

By definition, Organic foods are, "foods that are produced using methods of organic farming – that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic foods are also not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives."

Basically Clean Eating is eating food in it's most basic form, not processed or full or synthetics or chemicals.

So fresh food is one of the best things to have, or cage free products.

So now....for my first ever Clean Meal.

Here is where I explain more about the 80-20 part.  I'm telling you, have this in the back of your mind and you won't set yourself up for failure.  If you have the mindset of going 100% Clean, then when all your friends go to eat, you are depressively declining because of your choice to be healthy.  NO, go eat with your friends! It's a choice, not PUNISHMENT! (just don't go out to eat every night) hahaha Make good choices! This blog post was amazing at describing this.  Her point of view was based on her young daughters and not wanting to put a misconception of food into their minds that could later lead to eating disorders. It's a very interesting read!

Our first official "Clean Meal." I used the All Recipes, Chili's Chicken Enchilada Soup.

Anyways, I made the Kale chips I mentioned above, but used my Wal-Mart bought olive oil.  I made guacamole with organic avocados & the Organic Blue Corn Chips that I bought.   In the soup, (which tastes way better than it looks here), I used mostly fresh stuff, but the enchilada sauce I had bought a while back so I used it, and it wasn't organic.  Things like that.  If I already have it, I'm going to use it.  And I still felt GREAT about myself because I had set the 80-20 expectation up for myself, so I was okay that it wasn't all PERFECTLY CLEAN/ORGANIC FOOD!

Anyways, I will continue to update you on how things are going.  A few things I have planned for the coming weeks it to share with you about fresh fruit frozen treats I have made, and about a Gluten Free Cooking Class that I went to!

Today, instead of Big Sis sharing a review of her shirt, we actually have a guys point of view from Big Sis' Husband!

Since the wife was so very pregnant at the time of this review she asked for a men's shirt for me to review for them. Big and Lil Sis thought this would be a great addition to their reviews since most of their reviews are solely between them, the ladies! When Big Sis told me that I would be getting a shirt to review I thought, "ok, that is cool..." But when the shirt came I was blown away by what a great shirt it was. Seriously, I like this shirt so much that I would totally be down with being walking advertisement for LatitudeGearRX if they want to send over more shirts for me to review! :) In true man form this has to be short and sweet.... and in true military form, I need to use bullets! So here you guys have it:

Husband seriously loves this shirt... he wears it to work out in, play softball in, and just to go out! It looks great on him too! Under Armour "What's Beautiful" Challenge

I recently started the Under Armour "What's Beautiful" Challenge! I am so excited to be a part of something so fun, challenging, and encouraging!

Here's how it works: Under Armour is basically challenging female athletes to set goals, and accomplish those goals! The What's Beautiful website is a place for women to interact with one another and record their journey as they overcome obstacles!!

The goal that I have created for myself is to be able to do a handstand without using the wall! If you have been following me on the blog or via instagram you know that for the past few months I have been challenging myself with lot's of yoga and handstands! I have definitely seen growth, but I want to DO MORE!

Here's a small portion of the some of the challenges I have accomplished!

Last night I hit a major milestone! Although it was only a headstand, I still was brave enough and able to hold my headstand with no wall in sight!

Recap of the week! #AprilFitChallenge

As many of you know, I launched the #AprilFitChallenge, where I challenged myself and anyone who wants to join to get into gear with a weekly training plan I have put together! Basically, anyone could join and each week I send out a new training plan, lot's of encouragement, and a smoothie recipe via email! It's been great, and I been posting plenty of pictures to the challenge album on our facebook page of me doing different moves for each day.  

I just wanted to give a little recap as the week comes to a close!

 

The #AprilFitChallenge really has been challenging for me! I have enjoyed so much the accountability that it brings! For example, last night I had the opportunity to hang out with my friends or go to the gym, and I chose the gym because I knew I had others counting on me to complete that days challenge! I was so thankful in the end, and proud of myself for the decision I made.

And, I have definitely been sore all week! Which I LOVE! I love feeling that I have worked hard! Plus knowing that I have a planned workout really motivates me to make healthy choices throughout the day! On the food I eat, and to drink more water! When you know you have a plan to workout at a specific time with a specific program, you are more aware of the health choices that you make, and I need that.  Sometimes I find myself eating something then when I'm done I realize I didn't even think about it, just did it! (#badchoice)

 

So anyways, it has been a great week...now I am about to jump in the car with Big Sis to head to Dallas to meet our mom and friends to run the Dallas Color Run tomorrow morning! I am so excited!

Weight Training Week 1

Today we started an April Weight Training Challenge! 

The GOAL is to challenge our followers to push themselves harder by partnering weight training and cardio workouts together!

HOW? 

We are doing this by creating a weekly training plan that we are emailing out with encouragement, and a smoothie recipe! We believe that by partnering these workouts with eating well and lots of water, you can start to see changes in your body!

FALSE BELIEFS:

Many women believe that lifting weights only bulk you up! BUT when partnered with cardio, you are burning fat and toning!

WHY JOIN IN? 

It's about to be bathing suit/bikini season, DUH!!

I decided that I need to challenge myself after trying to bench press 25's on my bar yesterday and not being able to lift more than one! I was appalled! So I decided that I needed to push myself into gear, and I need encouragement and motivation to do that! So I have created a facebook album where we will be posting the challenges, plus encouragement throughout the week! It will be a place for everyone involved in the challenge to share their thoughts, etc. We want to develop more community and encouragement!

Run Disney Expo

Today we are starting out by telling you about the Run Disney Princess Half Marathon Expo!

Don't worry though, in the days to come we will each be sharing our own experience with the Disney Princess Half Marathon! Plus we will have a guest post from our mom, sharing about her first ever half marathon!

First off, the Expo overall was pretty cool! You go there and get all your necessities for the race: check-in, get your bib, pick up your running pack which includes your shirt (which was great by the way!), race day instructions, some other freebies, and the bag that you use to check-in on race day if you have stuff with you. So in that way, it was pretty functional.

Then along with that, there are some awesome companies there! Some I have heard of and some I had not.  I mean honestly, you could've taken nothing to Florida with you and gotten everything you need for the race.  All necessities, from your socks & shoes, to your head bands, and you had multiple options!

One really awesome and new product that we saw was called the Handana! This was one of the products that I was most impressed with. It's a different style of a sweatband that a lady created! I think I enjoyed this because it is such an easy and unique invention and I would love to create something great like this as a Naturally Fit Sisters product! Anyways, I am definitely going to contact her and see about doing a review and giveaway for the blog ;-)

Then of course they had the Run Disney/New Balance shoes! These are the women's, Minnie Mouse shoes! So many people were at the New Balance booth trying them on! It was great, and if I needed shoes I may have bought some myself.  They are super cute, plus they are Run Disney shoes!

Of course the Expo had some pretty cool stuff going on as well.  If we didn't have Disney Parks to go to, it would have been fun to spend more of our day there.  They had speakers like Jeff Galloway, (see below)....the Run Disney Training Coach speaking and giving tips.  Also Ali Vincent, the first female winner of biggest loser spoke! It would have been great to sit and listen to all of their good tips, but we had Magic Kingdom on the agenda for the day.  Maybe is I was able to continue doing Disney races, and went there a lot, then I would stay to listen to the speakers instead of going to the park!

Along with all this, there were other frustrating things that Big Sis highlights below, like the line to get our goodie bag, and the line to the Run Disney store.  I was really sad because I wanted a Disney Princess Half coffee cup so bad! And the line was TOO long, and like I said we were heading to Magic Kingdom that day....so I didn't wait in line.  Anyways, there were some very annoying things about the expo, but Big Sis highlights those below.  And just for the record, although overall I enjoyed the expo, I was just as annoyed with a few of those things as Big Sis.   IMG_9292

Expo Fun Chaos from Big Sis

Disclaimer: Let's just be clear that my post won't be near as exciting as Little Sis'... Please keep in mind I have just finished 7 full months of pregnancy AND had a very excited 3 year old with me. 

I was really excited to go to the EXPO. The last EXPO I remember attending was during my first 1/2 at the Little Rock, Arkansas Rock and Roll in 2008. Little Sis had me pretty excited to check this one out and I was ready to get our bib and goodies. We loaded up after breakfast and headed to the EXPO with three kids and five adults. When we got there it had only just opened and there was SUCH a long line outside. I was thinking "OH MY GOSH!!!!" But I was so glad to see that the line went rather quickly to get inside the building.

We had the chance to get a picture at the start or go get our race essentials..... we decided to go get our bib! I really liked the set up of the bib pick up. By looking on the waiver that you had to have you were able to line up in the correct line- according to your bib. I was really glad to see that they had them separated very well... and I only had to stand behind 5 people. All it took was a little snack of goldfish and my boy was content. I waited less than 10 minutes and was able to pick up my bib... and they informed me we would need to go to the other side of the building to get our goody bag.....

So I met back up with mom and sis and our two friends... and we decided to venture out. It only took about 5 minutes looking around when we decided to split with our friends and meet back up at a later time. We had decided that we would walk up and down the aisles and see what there was until we made our way to the other side for our goody bag. I was NOT as excited about any of this as my mom and sister, I can't lie. BUT again, I am so very pregnant AND my toddler doesn't like being confined in his stroller... so that plus all the people = MAD HOUSE TO ME. If you wonder why there are so few pictures of me, if you follow on FB, it is because I constantly got out of it... :) While making it down the first aisle we saw some great vendors- some of which we know and some we don't, as Little Sis stated. We got to the Chaquita Banana Stand where we could do a game and I let my little one play too... he enjoyed that and he won a prize!! :) As we turned the corner I thought someone had something from their goody bag that they were using at a vendor booth, so I suggested we go ahead and get our goody bags and then continue going down the aisle.....

UDDER CHAOS!!

There were SO many people and it was so unorganized that it actually saddened me. NOT the amount of people so much as the un-organization. Mom and Sister went and stood in line to get their goody bags. You stood in line with your size shirt you ordered... I had given mine to mom and I stood off to the side with my son. Mind you at this time he has HAD ENOUGH. He wanted out and wanted to play. There were so many people there. I can't even begin to pretend like I know how long we stood there and all of that, but it was a long time. I heard so many people complaining and I won't lie again- that it put a pretty bad taste in my mouth about what was to come. I have read and heard so many great things about this race.. that to see the chaos just scared me on how the rest would be. Maybe if I had not been able to experience another expo before this one, I would not have had expectations. I wish they had had it organized like bib pick up, perhaps it would not have been so chaotic?

I was so sad that the RunDisney Store had a mile long line. There was NO way I was going to wait in that line with my son. Perhaps if I was just with mom and sister... but I wasn't.. and would not even attempt that. I was ALREADY so stressed out. It was certainly NOT kid friendly... though I did see a family there with triplets- more power to them! I really wanted a nice RunDisney shirt or a I Did It shirt, but I refused to stand in that line!! I did not want anything THAT BAD! :)

After moma and sister so GRACIOUSLY stood in line for their stuff AND MINE, it was time to continue on. By this time, I was SO over it! SOOOO over it! :) I hate my pregnant attitude when I am over something! Sister and Mom were SO excited to look around, I sure hated taking their joy. But we did manage to look around and enjoy it... :) I enjoyed seeing/hearing Jeff Galloway and Ali Vincent... but when it was time to go- there was NOTHING sad to me.

As far as the goody bag we got a pink mesh bag, an awesome purple race shirt, a tattoo, a Princess pin, and a bar or two. It wasn't a bad goody bag... but for the price we paid for the race, I would have thought there would be more in there! But I do love the shirt and can't wait until I am not SO pregnant and can wear it and feel okay in it. I still wore it, but can't wait until it fits me better for sure!

All Packed and Ready to Go!

Just a quick update for everyone!! I, Little Sis am all packed and ready to go to Florida!!

We have been prepping for this weekend since way back in September, and Big Sis has been planning even before that!

Now that the time is here, I am ready to meet my sis and mom, and ready to Run Disney! #RunDisney #PrincessHalf

I want so badly to update you all throughout the weekend and will surely try, but if I can't post here, be sure to follow all of our social media links!!
