Yoga Challenge During My Last Month of Pregnancy....Why Not!?!?

I am almost 35 weeks pregnant! Next week will be a month from my due date! I cannot wait to have my sweet baby boy here with us!

Until then though, to pass the time I thought I would join in on a little Instagram Yoga Challenge!!

I decided to join some of my favorite Insta Yogis in a challenge called  Back Bend Madness! #backbendmadness

I mean what better way to pass my last month of pregnancy than to be in a Yoga Challenge!

I would love to have some of you join in with me! I got my mom to join, and this is her first ever yoga challenge.  She has only just started doing yoga for the past few months, and has learned to love it.  It is extra challenging for her too, because her back has always given her problems, so throughout the challenge she has commented several times about having a stiff back.  What better way to fix that though, than to practice back bends. All that to say, anyone can do it, because my mom is rocking it! Plus the hosts share multiple versions that you can try, from beginners to advanced, so you can always choose what is best for you!

It is a lot of fun to do it along with people that you know so that you can keep each other accountable to remember to post, and encourage each other along the way! Little Sis goes to Yoga Training! Plus a YOGI

One awesome thing I will be sporting while in my yoga training, is my super cute & trendy YOGA BAG from Yoga People Bags!!!

Don't even tell me that I will NOT be the CUTEST YOGI at training!! haha because of my bag of course!!

Anyways, this bag is awesome! Not only does Yoga People Bags have amazing prints for their bags, but they are super roomie as well!

On a normal basis I leave my mat, strap, and block in my bag! That's pretty roomie on it's own.  A few weeks ago though, I ran to the gym from my house (1.6miles one way), and did a yoga class then ran back.  All I took was my yoga bag, and I fit everything that I needed in it! I was so amazed! But even with just your mat in it, it's not TOO big.  It has a great/roomie inside zipper pocket, then two small outside button pockets.  I use those for my phone, headphones, money, etc.

Just So Flippin' Excited

little signautresHey everybody! Little Sis here, and I am JUST SO FLIPPIN' EXCITED!

Let me just start by saying I AM GOING TO BE A YOGA INSTRUCTOR BY NEXT MONTH!!!

OMG!

This summer has been crazy, with getting pregnant, and losing the baby, and all the emotions and hard times that came with that, then with trying to buy a house and going through a ton of hassles that put us off a month later than expected, we have done a lot of waiting around this summer.

And in the midst of all that we were going through, my husband and I felt that the Lord told us that we need to START DREAMING again! He minded me that what we are doing now isn't the "FULLNESS" of what he created us for, and he "Wasn't done with us yet!" So since that big revelation at the end of May, we have started dreaming!

Obviously I am very passionate about fitness! (that's why we have a blog about it :-) ) & I just love yoga! I love the way it makes me feel, I love the escape it gives me, I love being challenged and growing in my skill, flexibility, & strength, and I love it! And I have such a desire to teach it!

So that is why I am going to Austin next week to get certified! I am ecstatic, and cannot wait!

Then last week something great happened! Currently I work at a local university as the Student Activities Coordinator.  Well last week our fitness department called me and offered me the job as the Teacher for the Yoga Course that they offer as a PE Credit! And I accepted! I am so excited about this, and am just praying for the opportunity to teach yoga even more at local gyms, etc.

I am pumped about exploring my dreams, following my dreams, and getting opportunities to walk out in those dreams! I am so thankful that the Lord got our attention and reminded us to keep dreaming!

Weight Loss Wednesday #3

 Big Sis here.. Well this has been a heck of a trying week... I hate weeks like that, don't you? I am determined to not make it a month like that. This month presents lots of hurdles for me with moving and all of that... but I am determined AND I know that our NFS Weight Loss Wednesday Group will help hold me accountable. So this past week, I worked out 5 of 7 days! I am really proud of that.. however, like I tell everyone- if my eating isn't completely ON BOARD... nothing changes. We had a surprise "Florida Party" on Saturday night where I caved and ate way more food than I should have and my stomach is still recovering from it. (I am writing this on Monday since I will be without internet and driving on Wednesday). Have you ever noticed that when you eat well and then have that one splurge how it makes you feel? Holy cow... makes you wonder why someone would eat like that all of the time.

In our Weight Loss Wednesday Group we have a July Challenge going on. Each day there is a challenge that each of us do and check in with... I am excited to see where this takes us.. especially for me, since we will be driving or in hotels most of it! But I am determined! I am so proud when I see peoples success stories... but sometimes, deep down, it hurts too.. because I have SO far to go. I keep thinking how happy I was with myself last July/August and my body.. and I can't wait to get back there.. I want to be there again... I want to be talking about fitness all the time..... I don't want to be insecure with myself anymore! Pregnancy really changes a person. I wish I could be one of those that bounces right back after pregnancy, but it isn't me... but that is okay, because I probably appreciate it a lot more than I would- because I have to work so hard.

Today you don't get a picture of my scale nor do you get an update on my weight.. because well, with all the chaos of separating what we needed to take with us and what the movers needed to take, I forgot to grab my scale.. SO you will just have to wait. Which is fine with me, as I am sure it isn't pretty. I am having to tell myself.. just keep moving.... I can't go anywhere but down from here (literally, lol) if I try! If you have ever struggled with self image or weight you know how hard it is when you get down on yourself. To you- Just keep keeping on... I will too!

For me, Little Sis, this week, well mostly the weekend wasn't the best for me either.  We are moving as well, and last Wednesday we started staying at a friend's house, and packed up the rest of our necessities, including our bed, and kitchen.  Although we were staying at our friend's house where we had food and a full kitchen, the houses were miles a part, and we had to finish packing and cleaning our house by Sunday.  So we would just grab food from a restaurant! At first we made pretty good choices, like Jason's Deli, where I just got soup, but other nights we didn't make the best choices.  I did keep working out though, and I am so happy to see the scales go down.

I have realized though with my latest healthy eating decisions, that changes don't happen just from working out.  I ran two half marathons this year, and even running that much, I gained weight because my eating habits never changed.  And even though I struggled with eating some while moving, My healthy choices outweighed my unhealthy ones, and I worked out consistently and that showed results!

If you have been working out and have seen NO results, start changing your eating habits!! I'm sure you will see changes!

Weight Loss Wednesday #2

Little Sis here.....back for week 2! I have really been enjoying Weightloss Wednesday and my endeavors of Eating Clean!!  You can read about that HERE.  It has made this whole process more fun, enjoyable, and really a fun challenge! Last week I weighed in at 163, and just days before that I was weighing in at 165! UGH!! And today I was proud to see the scales down to 160.5! I'm so ready to be in the 150's! Anyways, though, I did well this week, definitely not perfect, but still making solid changes to my eating habits & lifestyle!

It has been fun for me to discover new ways to eat healthy! I went to a Gluten FREE cooking class, not because I want to be Gluten Free, but just to learn healthier ways to cook.  It was fun with my girlfriends (post coming later), and it was very insightful! Along with this, I have been researching and having many conversations on how to eat better.

A few changes I have made so far include using honey to sweeten things, like my COFFEE! Big Deal for me, and I don't taste a difference at all.  (Plus I got the honey from the Farmer's Market).  And also having fun creating new healthy, all-natural snacks for myself! One I shared was the Strawberry-Lemon Protein Pops! Those are fun and so yummy! Next week I'll share about our homemade fruit rollups!  I started juicing this week.  Just started, only have done 3 glasses, and am really enjoying it so far!

Along with these things, I have also been adding protein to a lot  of my foods, (like my juices, or homemade snacks that I make), and I started this whole thing off with a supplement cleanse which ended today.  It did not necessarily affect my eating too much since I was already making changes! I can share more about that if you want later!

There has also been one other thing that has been a HUGE help in rebutting Weightloss Wednesday! Big Sis is going to share more about that! But I LOVE IT AND AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF IT!

Big Sis here.. This has been a great week! I didn't eat perfect at all and honestly just started working out again yesterday. I set a goal for myself to work out at least 30 minutes this week M-F. Monday and Tuesday are complete! Today I got the all clear at my 6 weeks, postpartum appointment so I am more than ready to get my hiney into running again!! I was so excited to step on the scale and see 191.0!! I was 196.1 last week! So exciting!

The biggest thing that has happened this week is that we have launched our Weight Loss Wednesday Team! We have a group of 15 girls who have come together and joined together in a private forum setting and we are sharing it all. It has really taken off this week and it is so exciting to have that encouragement. Some have shared pictures, weights, goals, etc. It has been a very active group so far and we are so excited for everyone that has been involved. We hope in a both six months to launch another WLW Team! We are so excited to see the changes that are going to come from our team!! We asked our members what there goals are in being part of the team and these are some things that we heard:

" "Friendly accountability" that one thing that is great about this group. We help each other by knowing we are accountable every week to each other. We will all be each others cheerleader or a shoulder when we need it. We're all in this together and as females young & uh~um not so young we all know how each other is feeling! Thanks girls!!" -Kendra

"I needed someone to hold me accountable! All day today I thought... well I could eat that but then I would have to explain to the ladies what happened. So I didn't  where as last week I probably would have. That's so awesome! I'm glad I have this support to get me through. "support group" or "support of the group" lol" -Katie

We are so excited to share with you each week as we progress comments, guest blogs, weight loss struggles, adventures, recipes, etc. from our group! We hope that you will enjoy watching us from the outside as much as we love being together on the inside!

Healthy Choice Desserts

Last week I posted about our new adventures in Eating Clean! I am really excited to see where this takes me and my husband.  I have already felt changes in myself, and am excited to see and feel more!

When I first started thinking about making these changes, I realized I needed to find an alternative to snacks, or desserts.  I love cold desserts/snacks.  I love getting fro-yo, or Icee's, and I enjoy an occasional snack! Especially at night! So I had to think of something better for me than the norm.  I thought about making fun frozen treats, and the next day I saw a cook book just for that at Sam's! I bought it for $5.99....well worth it for me! Not only is this a great treat for me now, but it will be wonderful to have all of these fun recipes when I have kids.  Then I picked up these two packs of popsicle trays at Wal-Mart for $1.50 each!

The first popsicle I decided to try out was the Strawberry-Lemon Pop!

For this here's what you needed:

1-Cup of strawberries

1-Tablespoon of lemon

1-cup of milk

1/2-cup of yogurt (plain, but I used strawberry because that's what we had)

1-teaspoon of sugar

*At the time I made this I used Splenda, but I learned last week that it is better to use HONEY to sweeten things.  So that is what I used on the ones I made this week! & I have also been using that on my coffee too! :-)

**I also added my unflavored protein powder to add an extra punch of goodness in there!

Then you just stick it all in your blender until it is pureed.

Next you pour them evenly into the little trays! This recipe made a tray and a half of these!

Then I froze them overnight, and enjoyed them the next day!!

I'm telling you, you should definitely try these out! They are easy and fun, and can be all natural! I used all fresh, organic fruits, and organic milk & yogurt! So I feel great about eating these no matter what time of day it is! They could even double as a smoothie in the morning, with the protein and fruit, it's like a small smoothie on a stick!

Plus the kids will LOVE IT!

This is a great snack/treat for kids! Way better than store bought popsicles that are dripping with fake stuff and sugar!! :-)

My nephew loved them and had like 3 this weekend!

Under Armour "What's Beautiful" Challenge

I recently started the Under Armour "What's Beautiful" Challenge! I am so excited to be a part of something so fun, challenging, and encouraging!

Here's how it works: Under Armour is basically challenging female athletes to set goals, and accomplish those goals! The What's Beautiful website is a place for women to interact with one another and record their journey as they overcome obstacles!!

The goal that I have created for myself is to be able to do a handstand without using the wall! If you have been following me on the blog or via instagram you know that for the past few months I have been challenging myself with lot's of yoga and handstands! I have definitely seen growth, but I want to DO MORE!

Here's a small portion of the some of the challenges I have accomplished!

Last night I hit a major milestone! Although it was only a headstand, I still was brave enough and able to hold my headstand with no wall in sight!

Recap of the week! #AprilFitChallenge

As many of you know, I launched the #AprilFitChallenge, where I challenged myself and anyone who wants to join to get into gear with a weekly training plan I have put together! Basically, anyone could join and each week I send out a new training plan, lot's of encouragement, and a smoothie recipe via email! It's been great, and I been posting plenty of pictures to the challenge album on our facebook page of me doing different moves for each day.  

I just wanted to give a little recap as the week comes to a close!

 

The #AprilFitChallenge really has been challenging for me! I have enjoyed so much the accountability that it brings! For example, last night I had the opportunity to hang out with my friends or go to the gym, and I chose the gym because I knew I had others counting on me to complete that days challenge! I was so thankful in the end, and proud of myself for the decision I made.

And, I have definitely been sore all week! Which I LOVE! I love feeling that I have worked hard! Plus knowing that I have a planned workout really motivates me to make healthy choices throughout the day! On the food I eat, and to drink more water! When you know you have a plan to workout at a specific time with a specific program, you are more aware of the health choices that you make, and I need that.  Sometimes I find myself eating something then when I'm done I realize I didn't even think about it, just did it! (#badchoice)

 

So anyways, it has been a great week...now I am about to jump in the car with Big Sis to head to Dallas to meet our mom and friends to run the Dallas Color Run tomorrow morning! I am so excited!

Weight Training Week 1

Today we started an April Weight Training Challenge! 

The GOAL is to challenge our followers to push themselves harder by partnering weight training and cardio workouts together!

HOW? 

We are doing this by creating a weekly training plan that we are emailing out with encouragement, and a smoothie recipe! We believe that by partnering these workouts with eating well and lots of water, you can start to see changes in your body!

FALSE BELIEFS:

Many women believe that lifting weights only bulk you up! BUT when partnered with cardio, you are burning fat and toning!

WHY JOIN IN? 

It's about to be bathing suit/bikini season, DUH!!

I decided that I need to challenge myself after trying to bench press 25's on my bar yesterday and not being able to lift more than one! I was appalled! So I decided that I needed to push myself into gear, and I need encouragement and motivation to do that! So I have created a facebook album where we will be posting the challenges, plus encouragement throughout the week! It will be a place for everyone involved in the challenge to share their thoughts, etc. We want to develop more community and encouragement!
