My water actually broke with this one!

It’s true, with both other babies…even #2 that came literally 6 minutes within getting in our room at the hospital, my water has never broken on it’s own, but this time it did! It was nothing glorious, but it’s something I desired and prayed for, and it happened!

Okay, let’s start from the beginning!


WILL MY BABY COME EARLY?


Around 36 or 37 weeks, I really felt like this baby was going to come early. Which honestly kind of annoyed me because instead of patiently waiting and enjoying my last few weeks of pregnancy, I was anxiously noticing every little weird thing that happened with my body, emotions, mindset. Which….in the last month of pregnancy, A LOT HAPPENS! And yet nothing ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

I honestly don’t know why I thought he would come early since neither of my other babies did. I had Zander at 40 weeks +2 days, (and I took castor oil to make it happen….I was eager with my 1st baby)! I had Eliza at 41weeks pregnant (and I took castor oil as a way to naturally induce and skip out on hospital induction…not a fan)

Praying for My Water to Break


So….around a week before my due date, I finally realized…I’ve always wanted my water to break, but instead of just wanting it, I need to straight up ask God for it. I know it’s NOT a big deal, but to me it was a desire of my heart, and….

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” -Psalm 37:4

This was a verse my grandmother made sure I memorized early in my life, and so I knew it was truth.

So I asked God blatantly for my water to break, and I told a group of my girl friends that I was praying for that, and they began praying with me too!

39 week appointment

So, after my 39 week appointment, which I waited at for nearly 2 hours…WITH MY KIDS! And for some reason that time I didn’t bring books or toys or anything….sorry to everyone in the waiting room!

I finally got in at lunchtime, and I didn’t even get to see my doctor. (which is why they said it was taking so long, they wanted me to see him but he was called out for a birth)

So I saw the nurse practitioner, which was fine with me. She checked me and really had to dig deep to feel my cervix, and said I was barely dialated… “Cool. that makes me happy!” haha

So backstory, my platelets had been low during this pregnancy, which wasn’t new for me. This happened in pregnancy #1, and the LAST WEEK they went up! We prayed, and it worked!
Same thing happened this time, they gradually decreased each week, (which could get dangerous if I was in an accident or had to have an emergency C-Section because if my platelets are too low and I’m bleeding, my blood won’t clot and I could bleed out).
Then finally, with everyone praying, and me having to go bi-weekly, then weekly to get labs done, my platelets went up that last week AGAIN! Thank you God!

So I went home like normal, and that night I got a call from my doctor.

Who randomly told me because my platelets didn’t rise enough, he didn’t feel super comfortable with me continuing and basically wanted me to pick an induction date….

“Huh…? Wait, what did you say?”

PICK A DATE TO BE INDUCED….

This took me by surprise. Actually SHOCKED me.
Kids were asleep and my husband was at the gym.
I didn’t know what to say or think, I just sat there.

We got off the phone with a…talk to your husband and give me a call back.

Now if you know me or have read my other birth stories, I’ve had 2 all natural births which have gone incredible well, and I wanted that for this birth too! However, with my other 2 I did take castor oil…. (as explained above) to help naturally induce me.

This birth I was praying would all happen on it’s own and I was waiting until the LAST POSSIBLE moment to have to use castor oil, and prayed my water would break and it would all just happen!

So when my husband got home, and after talking on Marco Pollo to some girl friends, I was ready to call my doctor back and push back on the induction. Yes, I trusted him, but I also knew my body could do this, and with two amazing births before this one, and no problems with baby, I felt comfortable to keep waiting.

When he answered, he admitted he thought longer about it and with my body and good health he felt comfortable with me waiting. (I didn’t even have to give him my spill that I had ready haha). All he wanted was for me to do 5 days of steroids to help boost my platelets. (I had tried not to get those just because I don’t love the use of medicine in general, but if it was steroids vs. inducing, I chose steroids). So I went into that for the next 5 days, which ended the night before my 40 week appointment.

40 WEEK APPOINTMENT

My 40 week appointment actually fell on the night when I was 39 weeks, 6 days. So the day BEFORE MY DUE DATE!

Another appointment where we had to wait forever! The appointment was at like 4:30PM, and we didn’t leave until after 6PM.

However, I did get to see my doctor this time. My platelets had gone up…yep I had to get blood drawn again first thing that morning. He was so happy to see a large jump due to the steroids boosting them though!

He checked me, and I was dilated to 3 centimeters, and 75% effaced.
He stripped my membrane as well that night.

That night, I just felt like something was different. I was starving, so we went out to eat at Fuzzy’s as a family.

Also, side-note, on this day I felt very energetic. (which could have been due to steroids still being in my system), but I went on my normal 2mile walk with the kids, I DID A WORKOUT! It was the launch of a new program and I wanted to do Day 1’s workout! (the past 2-3 weeks I had really just been walking as my workout, usually 2 miles a day) THEN, that night after dinner, my husband stopped at a home he was working on, and I walked home from there. Totally 3.5 miles the entire day of walking, plus a workout.

We got home, kids went to sleep, I took a bath, and unlike the past week which had me up at late times, I was ready for bed by 9:45PM.

The next morning was APRIL 2ND, 2019!

I woke up and just soaked in the morning.
I had a cuddle + worship + reading time with the kids on the couch
The kids grabbed their own hospital story books and we read them and looked at pics of their births together!
I wanted a hot bath, and they wanted to join me, so we did that!

Then I wanted to go for a walk because it was my norm, but I also just didn't feel like it. I felt like I should save my energy. I kept telling the kids we were going, they got totally ready, then sitting by the door to put my shoes on I made the decision to NOT walk today.

(In the back of my mind I wondered if he would come today….but I didn’t want to say it out loud because I had wondered that for the past 3 weeks. But they say you get a burst of energy before…(hello the day before and all of my activity) and then I just felt like I should conserve energy that day)

Yes I had been having some contractions that morning, but nothing secure enough to track or even know when it stopped and started. Felt more like pressure down there than pain too.

Around noon I sat in my bed to read the kids books before nap time. During the book reading Daddy got home for lunch. At 12:30PM I got out of bed to go to their room to put them down, and I felt something NASTY coming out of me!

Yep…I would guess this was my MUCUS PLUG!

DID MY WATER BREAK?

Needless to say, I never put my kids down for a nap on this day. Instead I went straight to my bathroom to see what was happening. I was about 100% sure I had just passed my mucus plug. Which was pretty exciting since that hadn’t happened in any other pregnancies. I quickly sent my son to grab his dad, and when he came in I told him.

Now just because this happened, I wasn’t overly excited since I knew this could happen hours before birth or even days. My husband asked if he should stay home or go back to work, and I definitely said go back.

He went ahead to the kitchen to have lunch, and I wondered if it was just my mucus plug or also my water. From there I felt like I needed to do stuff, and be aware of my body and if any more fluid would come out.

I went and picked things up randomly in the living room, did some dishes. And as I was standing at the sink I felt more liquid coming out, and went to the bathroom. From there I was Marco Polloing my girls group I mentioned above that were also praying for my water to break. Yep….Marco Polloing in the bathroom (don’t judge me, I’m sure you’ve done it!)

I literally was telling them I wasn't sure if my water had broke or what, when water began streaming out. It was slow and only a little, but like “they” said, it was that feeling of peeing but you knew you weren’t peeing.

When I told my husband I thought my water broke, he assured me, NO WAY! When they have broken it at the hospital it gushes out! hahaha I let him know that it can gush or be a slow thing when it happens on it’s own.

The slow fluid coming out happened a couple of other times too.

Go to the hospital…? Or Not??

So…. since I really wasn’t having real contractions I sent my husband back to work. He was only at a house about 1.5 miles down the road, so I felt fine with him leaving.

I felt like my water had broken, but honestly I wasn’t 100% sure.

My girlfriends told me I was crazy to not GO TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. Since my daughter had been born so quickly! But for me, I wanted to make 100% sure I was in labor before I went to the hospital and had to be connected to all sorts of cords!

I’m a huge proponent of laboring at home, and having freedom to move around as much as I want or need.

So, like I mentioned, all of that happened around 12:30PM, my husband stuck around for at least another 30 minutes or maybe even an hour before going back to work, and I waited. I waited to see if my body would have more contractions.


At some point during this time, I told my mom to come on to Abilene. (she lives 5 1/2 hours away). I was so hesitant to tell her that, but thinking my water broke, I just knew she needed to come.


Yes I was having them, but still not painful, and not super consistent, just mostly pressure.

At some point though, I had a pretty hard contraction. In my mind and opinion, I feel like that was the first real one, and the first difficult one. It was that time that I realized….OMG! If my water broke, and that’s a real contraction….there’s no one here to watch my kids, AND my husband isn’t here yet!

”What am I doing!???”

So I called my husband and my friend!

Let me take a shower first…

Yep you heard that right….

I had a hard contraction and realized I wanted to and was READY to go to the hospital.

My husband comes home, and he says he is going to take a shower first….

“Excuse me…what!??”

He informed me he hadn’t taken one in two days….I’m over here thinking…okay but if I have this baby at home and you have to deliver him, DON’T YOU GO BLAMING ME.

He took a shower quickly and my friend got to my house. I gave her an eye and informed her Meguell was getting out of the shower. I would say at this point I was feeling a little like I NEEDED to get to the hospital, and a little irritable. We left in the next 3 minutes.

Now THAT was a REAL contraction!

Once we got in the car….oh let me inform you our car was on EMPTY! Like fully empty, needed gas ASAP!

Anyways, once we got in the car, it was like my body kicked into gear! I had a REAL, and a hard contraction on the way there. At this point my contractions were around 4-5minutes apart, but still slightly inconsistent.

I remember thinking….OMG get there quick, I don’t want to have another contraction in this car. The first one was rough! So we ran a redlight and sped to get there.

My husband dropped me at the door and went to park.

(funny side note, we left our emergency lights on, and when he went to run an errand a day after the baby was born, our new car was dead, AND we had to buy a new battery…)

I went in, trying to stay calm, but feeling a little flustered. HOPING I got on an elevator alone. It would be so awkward to have a contraction with other people on the elevator. I did, and made it to the labor and delivery floor. My husband came quickly behind me.

I Pre-Registered This Time!

With baby #2 I totally forgot to pre-register at the hospital. This time, I did not forget! My husband even called on our way there to let them know we were coming.

They sure moved mighty slow though. My husband speculated that maybe they don’t see a lot of people ACTUALLY in labor these days haha.

Anyways, while he stood at the window answering questions and waiting for the lady to let us in….(this was after I filled out a form), I had to walk off for another contraction. A man wearing scrubs asked if I was okay. I just waved him off (nicely), assuring him I was, but please don’t talk to me is what I was thinking.

They took us in, weighed me, and took me right to a room.

There the nurse checked me, and I was dilated to a 6 and 100% effaced.

Over the course of the next hour and a half several things happened, and I may not have them in the right order.

At some point my husband went back to the car….I told him, “Don’t take your time.”

My doctor poked his head in the door and told Meguell I knew it wouldn’t be long. (I was in the bathroom at this time)

And several nurses came in the room to setup all of the birthing instruments.

Meguell said… “Wow yall are setting up already??” And our nurse replied…”Well your doctor let us know we probably shouldn’t waste any time getting ready with yall, and that this would probably go fast.”

We guessed by text messages that we sent that we arrived to the hospital around 2:40PM. (btw we didn’t have to stop for gas haha we definitely were running on fumes in our van though).

All the time this was happening, I was in the bathroom most of the time.

1) Actually trying to go to the bathroom. You see with the other babies I took castor oil which meant I got totally cleaned out before labor. With this one, I actually had to poop! But I couldn’t because I didn’t have time to poop between having contractions. So that was super uncomfortable.

2) I stayed in the bathroom to labor alone because it just felt better. Plus I was avoiding getting hooked up to all of the machines and getting an IV.

I would come in and out of the bathroom and the nurse would ask me questions. Honestly, I don’t know what the point in pre-registering is, considering all of the questions they ask and forms they fill out once you get to the hospital!

So at one point when I came out she informed me she needed to put the heart rate monitor on my belly. Although I did NOT want to get into the bed. I was enjoying the freedom of being cord free and walking around when I needed to have contractions. So….she put a portable one on me! NO CORDS!! Yes! I was so thankful.

I laid in the bed to get that on. Then another nurse came in to do an IV. I asked her if there was anyway to avoid it. She said no. Although she just plugged it up once it was in. And FYI it was never used. Finally the day after baby was born I asked a nurse to take it out.

I continued going back to the bathroom or using the labor ball to contract.

I remember thinking….do I want to pray for this to speed up? or am I ready for the intensity that I know is going to come soon? Although if I don’t pray for it to speed up, I have to continue having these hard contractions for a long time hahaha I would just contract and say “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus…” while I did, praying in the bathroom during contractions. Another reason I wanted to be alone in the bathroom. So I could talk/pray out loud haha.

When Can You Check Me Again…?

After having several more pretty intense contractions in the bathroom I stuck my head out to ask the nurse when she would check me again.

She told me if I felt like things were changing she could. I definitely felt like I was feeling much more pressure down there during contractions.

She gave me the option to stand or lay while she checked me. I chose to lay in the bed. It was only the 3rd time I had been in the bed. Once to be checked the first time, another time for the heart rate monitor, and then this time.

3:50PM: This time when she checked me, I was dilated to a 9!

She asked if I felt the need to push!

YEP!!!

Now I’ll admit, at this point, the need to push wasn't as prevalent as I remember with my other two, but with the option to get the doctor, push and baby come, I WAS READY!

So they called for the doctor who got there quick.

SIDENOTE: while I was in the bed contracting, and waiting for the doctor, only a few moments, she asked if I could sign a paper….like what? NO! haha I literally told her no, and that I would do it after I had the baby. I was trying to concentrate and find some peacefulness between contractions, NOT focus on paperwork! (once again…WHY DID I PRE-REGISTER??!??) *disclaimer, I’m not sure if this happened at this time or when I was in bed getting the heart rate monitor on, but it happened at some point when I was NOT wanting it to! hahaha


I stayed in the bed at this point, and contractions started to feel more intense. I mainly keep my hands over my eyes, and eyes shut.

I remember all of a sudden smelling lavender! THANK YOU HUSBND for being on point with getting my diffuser going! (It’s something I always pack in my hospital bag, and we use it during birth (when time permits), and in our room the next couple of days too).

It seriously was the perfect timing and I thought…..let your mind go to the peacefulness of that smell versus the pain of the labor right now! I felt more peaceful! (a practice I have learned well in Yoga)

The doctor came in, and I remember them realizing the bed I was on was not a labor bed. Meaning it didn’t fold down at the end or have stirrups. My eyes were still shut, but I was full on contracting thinking….DO NOT TRY TO MOVE ME.

Meguell informed me later they looked panicked for a moment and he thought they were going to try and move me too, but they didn’t! Thank you Lord! Plus, they wouldn’t have had time.

I pushed once, and they began coaching me. I had just put my hands above my head, and the doctor told me that if I could put my hands behind my knees it would get me closer quicker. Like his head was back behind my cervix (something he told me about the night before at my appt when he checked me.) So if I could tilt my hips by putting my hands behind my knees it would help.

At first I said I couldn’t, and I really thought I couldn’t do it. Then I thought…OMG if it makes it where I don’t have to push as many times, I CAN DO IT! So somehow I moved my hands and began pulling on my knees.

The next push (#2) they were all getting excited and telling me I’m so close!

In the in between time of push 2 & 3 I asked….”but what does ‘close’ mean??” I was thinking…to me that means he’s about to come, but to you that could just be a nice way to say you’re doing great, but it’s a long time away. haha

I don’t remember even if they answered. What I do remember was PRAYING that God would let him come on the next push! It had been SOOOO hard, and I did not want to keep going through contractions/pushing like that for long! So I prayed and begged God to make it happen.

Push number 3 at 3:59PM, I pushed hard, and long, and he came!!!

Meguell said the doctor had to help pull his head out because of how my cervix was, but then he just came!

After he came, I just kept my hands over my eyes, eyes clinched shut. Then I remember Meguell holding my hand and I just said…”Babe, that was so hard. That hurt so bad.”

He reassured me saying, “I know Babe, but now he’s here. You did great!”

At some point in the midst of this I remember us thinking…no one’s taking pics haha and a nurse grabbed a camera and got some. I’m so thankful for that!

Let’s be honest too, this was my first child to have mid-day.
And it was definitely probably the least stressful for my husband!
He barely had to do anything this time!
With both other babies he fell asleep shortly after, and after Baby #2, they even had to get him a wet rag because he felt a little weak.

I still can’t believe this sweet baby came within 1.5 hours of arriving at the hospital and only 3 pushes! OOOHHHH I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THAT THOUGH!

And once they put him on my chest it was just the sweetest.
Skin-to-skin is always my fave!

I spent well over an hour feeding and doing skin-to-skin. Then Meguell had an hour of skin-to-skin as well, in which sweet Ezekiel fell asleep, mouth wide open on him! It was the funniest and sweetest thing!

He was born at 7lbs 9oz, 21 inches long.

My mom arrived that evening and Meguell’s mom even later that evening to meet him.

We spent 2 nights in the hospital by choice. With it being baby #3, we wanted as much time to focus ONLY on this baby as possible, so we stayed an extra night by choice!

We are so blessed with this sweet boy!

COOKIES N' CREAM Smoothie!

I’m postpartum, and for sure am still wanting all the snacks and yummy treats!

Which don’t get me wrong…I’m nursing a baby, which means SNACKS ARE A MUST! But I’m also trying to keep them as healthy as possible!

So as a way to fuel my body with good snacks and treats while I’m healing from birthing my sweet baby, and fuel myself to make enough milk to feed him, I’m packing my smoothies FULL of goodness these past 4 weeks!

And I’m having tons of fun with recipes, check out the BIRTHDAY CAKE SMOOTHIE Recipe I shared a few weeks ago!

This time though….COOKIES N’ CREAM!

Made with Cacao Nibs, which if you didn’t know are a POWERHOUSE ingredient! An excellent source of iron and fiber, plus full of protective antioxidants and magnesium!

Make it to drink like a normal smoothie, or do it like I do, and add all the ice for a nice bowl! It’s the PERFECT evening snack to fight off the need for DESSERT! It literally feels like you’re eating a bowl of ice cream!

But did I mention that the Vanilla Salad I put in mine has the same nutrients that comes in 6 salads! Plus so many adaptogenic herbs and vitamins to help your immune system! It’s delish and a must EVERY SINGLE DAY for me!

COOKIES N' CREAM Smoothie Recipe!

COOKIES N’ CREAM SMOOTHIE RECIPE

  • 1 cup almond milk

  • 1 cup ice (or for a bowl, add 2+cups of ice)

  • 1 scoop Vanilla Salad (chat with me about getting this plant based goodness)

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • 2 TBSP cacao nibs

  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract or 1/4 tsp vanilla bean powder

  • 1 tsp nut butter

MIX IN YOUR BLENDER, AND TOP WITH CACAO NIBS! If you are making it a bowl, add ice as you go to make it thicker! Your blender may need some help mixing it up if you put a lot of ice, but it will be worth it for that ice cream-like thickness! ENJOY!

*If you are a pregnant or nursing mama like me, just FYI, for added nutrients and fiber, I’ve been adding hemp seeds and/or chia seeds, and unflavored collagen to my smoothies each day! Not necessary if you are using my Vanilla Salad, but I have those ingredients at home, and trying to put as much “MILK-MAKING” fuel in my smoothie bowls as possible for my baby!

Birthday Cake Smoothie Recipe

Ask and you shall receive….

This week I helped a prego mama in her 1st trimester get ahold of my fave superfoods shake! I like to call it my #VanillaSalad becaue it literally has the same amount of nutrients in it that 6 salads have.
Which is perfect for when you’re in your 1st trimester because let’s be honest your appetite is slim to none, or you crave all the junk….que her desire for a Birthday Cake Smoothie Recipe, which she admitted she had a non-healthy shake a few times already because the cravings for this flavor was so strong!

As a newly postpartum mom, I get it! 1st trimester is not the easiest, even for the healthiest of people. I personally revert back to my childhood ways and want all the processed foods I grew up on in the 90’s….think canned Spaghetti O’s, sugary cereals, frozen pizzas and hot pockets! It’s true, that’s what I’ve craved in every single pregnancy!

Anyways, back to this delicious smoothie recipe! So when she asked for a healthy BIRTHDAY CAKE SMOOTHIE RECIPE, I delivered!

Yes of course you can Pinterest it and Google it and find some recipes, but many of those still contain some ingredients, (i.e. graham crackers in some) that are a No-no in my refined sugar free eating lifestyle!

So, I made it happen, I played around with some ingredients, got a friend to try it, and we both agreed, it tasted amazing! So I had to share it!

He’s officially 5 days old, and I’ve already made, and devoured some amazing [SUGAR FREE] Lactation Cookies….but don’t worry, my family helped in the devouring part!

They are easy to make and delicious!

Here’s some of the ingredient benefits!

BREWER’S YEAST- “most commonly known for its use in the production of beer, contains iron, protein, B vitamins, chromium, selenium and various other trace minerals. Not only does it promote milk supply, it is believed to help with fatigue and the ‘baby blues.’”

OATS- “are another must for breastfeeding mothers. They are high in fiber and full of iron, protein and complex carbohydrates. Low levels of iron in the body can actually reduce milk supply.”

FLAX SEED- “has good fats and enzymes, which are important for increasing the content of breast milk.”

So obviously you can tell while the whole family could benefit from these delicious and nutritious cookies, plus gives me as a nursing mama a great excuse to EAT ALL THE COOKIES right now too!

LACTATION COOKIES [SUGAR FREE]

  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached organic all-purpose flour

  • 5 tablespoons brewers yeast

  • 3 tablespoons ground flaxseed

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 12 tablespoons organic unsalted butter

  • 4 tablespoons unrefined organic virgin coconut oil

  • 1/2 cup honey

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

  • 1 large egg + 1 large egg yolk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup raisins

  • 1/2 cup [sugar free] chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes

  • 1/2 cup nuts of your choice

    *the last couple of ingredients can be intermingled or done without. Just add any of the extras you want to create texture, flavor, and more nutrients!

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, yeast, flaxseed, baking powder, soda, cinnamon and salt.

  3. Using your mixer, beat the butter (can be straight from the fridge) and coconut oil on medium speed until creamy. Add in the honey, and maple syrup, and beat on medium to high speed until fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl if needed. Add in the egg and egg yolk, beating until combined. Add in the vanilla extract and beat until combined again. Gradually add in the dry ingredients, beating on low speed until just combined and mixed. Stir in the extras (chocolate chips, raisins, coconut, nuts) that you are using

  4. Scoop 1 TBSP of mixture onto a greased baking pan. Bake for 10-14minutes

  5. ENJOY!

6 Tips to a NEW YOU in 2019!

It’s a New Year….and sometimes the idea of NEW YEAR, NEW YOU can get a bad rap…but why!?

Why not take advantage of the natural energy that occurs when the New Year happens!?

Why not take time to reflect and gain vision and set goals for the new year ahead! ?

Why not make changes to your habits that will create a happier, healthier life in the future!?

Here are 6 TIPS to a NEW YOU in 2019!

1) DRINK MORE WATER!

Hydration helps you well, not be thirsty…..but that’s a given!
It also benefits our skin health and elasticity! (aka keeping you young!)
Helps your heart health! And helps your muscles and joints function better!

2) EAT MORE VEGGIES!

Don’t like veggies, there are plenty of ways to sneak them in food, add them to smoothies, or add them in supplement form that tricks your mind/tastebuds, but still gets you what you need. (ask me about any of these!)

More veggies means more fiber! More veggies give you tons of vitamins and minerals that your body needs! Eating more veggies means you are eating less sugar and processed food, which is better for your overall health, and preventing diseases!

3) DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE!

Yes, I am giving you full permission to say “NO” to things that you are doing only out of obligation! Decide what things give you life, and joy and do more of those things!
This will benefit your overall happiness and sense of purpose in life!

4) GET MOVING!

Always a great goal for the new year!
Find a workout that you can enjoy, that challenges you, but also makes you happy! (well at least sometimes)
And remember….motivation isn’t something that you just have, it’s something that you CREATE!

5) DAILY 5-10 MINUTES OF SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Seriously, since I’ve made this a priority, it impacts me so much! And I can for sure tell when I HAVEN’T done it!
Mama’s, it has impacted the way I feel about me, how I interact with my kids during the day (thank you Lord for giving me patience on the daily b/c it’s needed), how productive I am in my home, and how well I love my husband!
Just 5-10 minutes, even if the kids are climbing on you! One of my favorite morning devos comes from the app She Works His Way on my phone! (it’s great for anyone, but specifically for business women!)

6) SELF CARE!

Take care of yourself!
Make time to read a book, listen to a podcast!
Have a glass of wine sometimes!
Have a girls night!
Go on a date with your main man!
Take a hot bath!
Get a pedicure!
Do a DIY FACE MASK!

Here’s one I’m loving right now because it smells incredible, and caffeine is great for your skin too! [read more about it’s benefits here]

  • 1/2 tsp finely ground coffee beans

  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil

Mix together, and rub over your face in circles for 2-5 minutes! Then rinse!

EASY PEASY, and you probably have the ingredients at your house right now!

Everyone has been loving my new cookie recipe, the EASY Chocolate Chip Cookies! 

And why wouldn't they....a cookie that has no refined sugar, so it's mostly guilt free, and perfect for dipping in your milk! Yep...you will love them too!

So... let's get to the good part! How can you eat two cookies at once and it be totally OKAY, judgement free, and delicious! 

A COOKIE SANDWICH THAT'S HOW!

So basically, make a batch of one of my cookie recipes, then mix together this awesome, and easy cream cheese filling! Lather up the cookies, and BOOM! Delcious Cookie Sanwiches!

EASY CREAM CHEESE FILLING! 

  • 1 8oz block of cream cheese

  • 2-3 TBSP of honey

  • 2 TBSP almond milk

  • Dash of vanilla

-Add it all to a mixer and mix on high until smooth! Then scoop about 1-2 TBSP or desired amount between two cookies! Enjoy immediately, or cover and refrigerate to enjoy later. 

*You can also freeze these for later. Or for an "ice cream cookie sandwich" style dessert.

BENEFITS OF HIIT WORKOUTS!

HIIT-High Intensity Interval Training! 

Today I wanted to share more about HIIT workouts!  It's one of my favorite ways to workout at home, or anywhere for that matter!

Lately, I've been doing a mix of HIIT, weight lifting, and core work! Then, on off days, I've finally picked running up again! And it has for sure helped with my endurance, and I love getting to mix the workouts together! 

Here's WHY YOU SHOULD BE DOING HIIT WORKOUTS! 

HIIT workouts are ideal for you, the busy woman, who seems to never be able to find time to workout. Let's admit it, usually we put everything else first. Work, house chores, kids activities, anything else we can think of...then maybe if we have time we fit in a workout.

The great thing about HIIT is that awesome things are happening, but quickly! Usually a HIIT workout lasts no more than 15-30 minutes. You are looking to do intense movements at full energy level for a short amount of time. So it is just easier to make time to get it done!

This means you have plenty of times to do the other things you love....like for me, lately, it's been getting to run more, and hang out with my family! 

Plus, what makes that 15-30 minutes even better...is that even though you are giving it all you have for that short amount of time. Taking yourself to the edge of exhaustion, and pushing hard...you are seeing the impacts for the next 24 hours.

When you enter into that anaerobic state, it kicks your body into hyper drive to start burning calories. Which is exactly what we want. As a matter of fact, your body continues burning calories for the next 24 hours following a successful HIIT workout.

Girl Scout TAGALONG Cookies [the Healthy Kind}

That's right you guys....I straight up did it again! 

Last year I made some bomb, sugar free, gluten free Samoa Girl Scout Cookies....you can snag that recipe HERE! 

And this year I just had to try another recipe, and Oh my word these cookies are amazing! Very simple to make, incredibly tasty, and gives you all the Girl Scout feels without all of the junk or added sugar! Plus with a little hidden gem in them! 

What could be hidden under all of this goodness you ask....??

TAGALONG Girl Scout Cookie Copy cat recipe! NO SUGAR, plus packed with Collagen!

TAGALONG [Sugar Free] Girl Scout Cookies

INGREDIENTS: 

  • 1/2 cup grass fed butter softened

  • 1/4 cup monkfruit

  • 1/4 cup Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolysate (GLGLife20 for 20% off)

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp pink Himilayan Sea Salt
  • 1 tbsp almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all natural peanut butter
  • 2-3 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1 pack [Sugar Free] Chocolate Chips

INSTRUCTIONS: 

  • Preheat the oven to 350, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper

  • In a mixer, cream together the butter and monk fruit. Once creamed together, add in the Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolysate

  • Add in flour and salt, and mix. Then add the almond milk and vinalla until blended

  • Taking a piece of parchment paper, put all of the dough inside of it, creating a long, 2" round log. (mine went the entire width of the parchment paper, about 1.5ft long, and 2" thick) Keep it in the  parchment paper and freeze for 15-20minutes

  • Take the log out and cut it into 1/4" thick circles (mine made about 33 cookies). Bake for 12-15minutes, then cool on a rack

  • Mix together the peanut butter and coconut oil, microwave for 15-30 seconds. (If you have a peanut butter that is already creamy/runny, SKIP THIS PART, and don't add the coconut oil. **Feel free to add another 1/4 cup of Collagen to the peanut butter as well here**

  • Place a 1/4" thick amount of peanut butter on top of the cookie, smashing it down so that it fills the entire top of the cookie. Freeze for about 10 minutes

  • Melt the chocolate chips in a bowl in the microwave. Cooking for only 15-30 seconds at a time and stirring to make sure they don't burn. Dip the cookies in the chocolate and freeze until the chocolate sets!

My biggest desire is that I will change the trend of obesity in my children, helping them to create a healthy relationship with food and the understanding of honoring and taking care of their body, so that they don't fall in this statistic. 

Of course yes, I want to teach my children to dream big, and be successful, and yes, I would even love to leave them money to make their lives easier....but above ALL OF THAT! I treasure being able to give them a healthy life, which will give them more years on their life to explore more, love more, weep more, eat more, laugh more, hug their babies more, kiss their spouse more, and the list goes on! 

That's why I'm raising up a community of women online called the LEGACY WARRIORS! 

We are all women, moms who desire to create a balanced, healthy lifestyle for ourselves! Yes for ourselves, but we are also warriors fighting this battle against trends of increased diseases that are harming our children. We are fighting to leave a healthy legacy for our children, and for generations to come.

CLASSIC CINNAMON ROLLS! [Sugar Free]

Alright you guys...for the past 2 Christmases I have made the most amazing, and perfect cinnamon rolls! And I have yet to share the recipe with you, so I thought...it was about time!

[Sugar Free] Classic Cinnamon Rolls = Perfection!

Yall...I am literally coming up on 3 FREAKIN' YEARS of NO SUGAR!!??

What!?!? How is this even real life!???

 

But did you know that growing up, CINNAMON ROLLS were my jam!?!? Like every single weekend, like clock work, we busted open a can of the big 'ol Pilsbury ones, smothered in icing, and enjoyed! 

So to make these is such a treat for me! And they can be for you and your family too!

The perfect CINNAMON ROLLS---Sugar Free!!!

[SUGAR FREE] CLASSIC CINNAMON ROLLS

Ingredients: 

  • 4.5 tsp yeast, dissolved in 1 cup of warm water

  • 6 TBSP grass fed butter or coconut oil (I've used both)
  • 1 cup monkfruit
  • 8 cups organic, all-purpose flour (if the dough is too sticky, you might end up adding more, up to 9-10 cups)
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 egg, beaten
  • 1 TBSP salt
  • 1/2 cup soft grass fed butter or coconut (both work great!)
  • 1.5 cups coconut sugar
  • 2 TBSP cinnamon

Directions: 

  1. Add yeast to a cup of lukewarm water, sprinkle about a tsp of honey in it. Stir, and set aside for about 5 minuts.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add butter, monkfruit, and salt to hot water and beat for 30 seconds, using the beater blade. Let the temp of the hot mixture cool for a few minutes. Stir in 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add yeast mixture and mix until well combined. Then mix in the beaten eggs.
  3. Gradually stir in the remaining flour and mix with the dough hook for about 2 minutes. Or until the dough begins to pull away from the side of the bowl. Remove dough from the bowl and place on a lightly floured counter. Kned by hand, adding a little flour if the dough feels sticky. Knead until dough feels satiny and smooth. 
  4. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. 
  5. After dough has doubled in size, remove it from the bowl and divide it in half. With a rolling pin, roll one half of the dough into a rectangular shape, about 22 x 13 inches. Spread dough evenly with half of the butter or coconut oil. Mix in a bowl, the coconut sugar and cinnamon. Split in half and spread half on top of the butter. Feel free to add raisins or nuts at this time too. 
  6. Roll up the dough in to one long roll. Cut rolls, with a bread knife, about 2 inches thick. (I made about 12 rolls for this half, 24 total with the recipe). Place rolls in a greased 9x13 baking pan. Follow the same directions for the other half of dough.
  7. ****If freezing, put in the freezer now. Then, when you are ready to cook them, set them out and let them rise for several hours. I usually set mine into the fridge overnight before the morning of baking. 
  8. Let the rolls rise until double in bulk. 
  9. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until cinnamon rolls are golden brown on top and cooked in the middle. 

TOPPING: (2 options)

  • I topped ours with the [sugar free] Caramel Sauce from my Simply Sugar Free Cookbook! It was amazing, plus I also enjoyed it topping my morning coffee too, which is such a treat! 
  • Or, mix together pure maple syrup, coconut oil, and cinnamon, melted and pour over the top! I do about 4 TBSP maple syrup, 1-2 TBSP coconut oil, and a tsp of cinnamon for waffles, so quadruple that and add more if you need to.

The Quickest Ginger Cookies You Will Ever Make!

So... we made a gingerbread house tonight! And no, not the crazy vegetable one that's floating around social media! Although that's pretty cool looking, we had a normal, ol' store bought, SUGARY, extremely fake gingerbread house! haha

So here's how it went down. [Let me preface for anyone that's new around here, this January I will have been sugar free for 3 years! NO REFINED SUGAR IN MY HOME, or for my kiddos, so there's that....]

My son has been asking to make one since we've been seeing them around the store, and since his Mimi was visiting we decided this was a great time for it. So we got it, and I already thought...if he asks, I'll give him like 1-2 pieces of candy. (I let him have some sugar at my discretion....ex: they give kids 1 piece of candy after gymnastics...I don't love it, but I don't take it away either)

So...we get started, and there's no word of wanting candy. To him, it's just decorations, which makes sense, since literally he's never eaten any of those candies before. 

My 1 year old wanted up to the table a licked a piece once or twice. 

So I'm thinking..."WOW, this is amazing! #MomWin !!!!!!"

Then as soon as we finish, he says..."CAN WE EAT IT NOW!????" So excitedly.....hahahahaha

Guess we weren't doing as well as I thought. I immediately followed that with. "No, [calmly] but we can make some of our own ginger cookies! And we can make them into designs too!"

So that's exactly what we did, and these cookies that I've been making all the time, turned out amazing, even rolled out and using cookie cutters on! 

Also, did I mention, they are the quickest ginger cookies you will ever make! PLUS GLUTEN, EGG, DAIRY, SUGAR FREE!!! What!?!?!

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 cup MOM FUEL Plant & Collagen Protein Powder (vanilla)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Put all ingredients into a mixture and mix until combined
  • Put mixture between two pieces of parchment paper and roll out
  • Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut
  • Bake 8-10minutes

*You can also roll into 1-1.5 inch balls and then flatten them out with a fork (kind of like you do with peanut butter cookies! I do this on a normal basis, this time we just made them special!

Pumpkin Cheesecake!

It's Thanksgiving week, and I don't know about you guys, but that means LOTS OF FOOD, and an espcially large amount of desserts with our family! 

So my favorite way to beat the Holiday Deprevation Blues...aka feeling like you are "doing without" because you are eating healthy, or on a diet....is to bring my own dessert! 

I love to take holiday favorites and make them healthier, and SUGAR FREE! I've got so many recipes like this in my SIMPLY SUGAR FREE COOKBOOK, which is ON SALE now! And that's what I did with this Thanksgiving, PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE that's amazing!

So I can come out of next week's holiday festivities feeling confident and proud that I didn't wreck all my efforts with one meal and leftovers! 

Seriously, when I gave up refined sugar almost 3 years ago, I remember the best feeling of accomplishment I had was after our first holiday weekend....It was 4th of July, and we had attended a huge party! So much food, and an entire dining room devoted to DESSERTS! So much dessert! 

I came home from that event, not feeling bloated, regretful, or guilty! I felt proud! I didn't step on the scale on Monday and say all these negative things to myself! The scale didn't jump up 5 lbs! Yes, I may have eaten some junk food [chips, hot dogs...], but no sugar! And it didn't affect my waistline or weight! 

I easily jumped right back into my working out and healthy eating routine! IT'S ALL ABOUT BALANCE, and this is one of my favorite ways to keep my balance! 

So here's to a well balanced, and delicious THANKSGIVING Meal!

Pumpkin Cheese Cake

(Source: BrittanySuell.com + Simply Sugar Free Cookbook)

FILLING:

  • 16 ounces cream cheese
  • ½ cup plain Greek Yogurt
  • ½ cup organic stevia or monk fruit
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup organic pumpkin puree

CRUST:

  • 1 ½ cups almond flour
  • ½ cup Collagen (I used the Mom Fuel Vanilla Collagen. If you don’t have this, you can just add another ½ cup of almond flour)
  • ½ cup chopped almonds
  • ½ cup melted coconut oil
  • 4 TBSP pure maple syrup
  • 1 TBSP cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • Pinch of salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Use mixer to combine cream cheese, Greek Yogurt, stevia, vanilla, and eggs. LEAVE PUMPKIN ASIDE
  • While the cream is mixing, use medium size bowl and a spatula to combine the almond flour, collagen, almonds, coconut oil, maple syrup, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and salt for crust
  • Rub coconut oil into cupcake pan or a cheesecake spring pan. (if doing cupcake size, this will make 12-16 cupcakes)
  • Evenly divide the almond mixture into the pans or pan, and use your fingers to flatten the crust into the bottom
  • Set aside ¼ of the cream mixture
  • Using the remaining ¾ evenly divide it into the pan, leaving a ¼ amount of room on top
  • Take the remaining ¼ of cream that you set aside, and combine the pumpkin puree. Once combined, add it to the top of the cupcakes or pan. If doing a pan, drop it into dollops around the top, then take a butter knife and swirl it in for a fun swirl cheesecake
  • Bake for 20 minutes
  • Let cool on counter top for 20 minutes, then refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

HOW & WHY I Bullet Proof Coffee!

I know it's been around for a while, but recently (this past year), I've really started to use it and enjoy it! 

Today I'm going to explain to you WHY I use it, and HOW I make it, plus stay tuned for my favorite way to enjoy a HOLIDAY DRINK at Starbucks!

Let's start with the WHY I BULLET PROOF COFFEE! Then I'll tell you HOW I do it! 

WHY: 

Many days I like to do what's called intermittent fasting. In short, it means that my eating window each day is a smaller amount of time. So I stay in a "fasted state" from about 10PM-12PM the next day, so my eating window is about 10 hours. I still eat the same amount of food during that time, I'm just eating during a shorter period throughout the day. This enables my body to get it's energy from fat storages (while I'm fasted), thus burning more fat! 

I do more extensive trainings on this style of eating in my Bootcamp, feel free to chat with me about this! 

So while I'm in this fasted state, it's a perfect time to have BULLET PROOF COFFEE, so that I'm getting a little fuel in the mornings, and the MCT oil used in Bullet Proof Coffee allows my brain to function at a higher level! I am literally more focused and productive in the hours after drinking my BPC than on other days. 

So instead of eating a carb filled breakfast, while actually can create brain fog, and feelings of sluggishness, then mid-morning a crash that makes you want more carbs or sugars, I'm fueling my body with MCT oil and healthy fats that help me stay focused and energized!

Now to the HOW...How to I create this amazing, and delicious drink each morning! 

HOW:

Here's what you need: 

  • 8-16oz of coffee in a blender
  • 1 TBSP MCT Oil (I get mine from Swanson)
  • 1 TBSP grass fed butter
  • Shake or two of your favorite seasoning-I like cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 TBSP Collagen (I use the Mom Fuel Vanilla Collagen, adds a perfect vanilla flavor and sweetener too, it's a great sugar free coffee creamer!)

A flat white with cinnamon powder infused into the cream! (or nutmeg)

Cinnamon powder & nutmeg powder are both just seasonings with no added sweeteners to them at Starbucks. The way a flat white is natural sweeter than other expresso drinks. 

According to a Starbucks spokesperson, its flat white “is made with two ristretto shots, topped with a thin layer of velvety steamed whole milk and finished with a latte art dot. Starbucks baristas perfectly steam milk into creamy micro-foam and carefully free pour to allow the espresso to rise to the top of the beverage for a bold coffee flavor with a sweeter finish.”

So it's a great drink to enjoy! They also have the HOLIDAY SPICE FLAT WHITE, where the espresso is infused with holiday spices, but it's also infused with some sugar as well, and as far as I can tell, there's no way to know how much or what kind it's infused with. However, if you are really struggling to give up your holiday drink, this is a better option than the Peppermint Mocha's that you may be used to! 

*If you want your drink sweeter, ask them to add a honey or two in it!

PUMPKIN FAT BOMBS! 

Put all ingredients into food processor and blend. Fill silicone molds (my pumpkin ones were bought at the Dollar Tree). Freeze for 30 minutes - 1 hour. Enjoy. Keep in FREEZER. 

*If you don't have molds, put parchment paper in a tuppaware container and fill the bottom. Once frozen, pull parchment paper and the entire square will come out. Cut into 1 inch squares and freeze in container.

Dirty Thirty...GIVEAWAY!

HOW I CELEBRATED MY Dirty Thirty!

So....my sister and I began my birthday celebration a little early, and yesterday we got a little crazy for my 30th, and got our noses pierced! Super spontaneous! Literally woke up, talked about what we wanted to do to make this special...then all of a sudden we were in a tattoo place in the mall with 4 kids! Yes I know, most people did this in their 20's, when they were in college....but we waited until we were in our thirties, and married moms! Hahaha I will admit though, I'm loving it! 

So I"m in Florida with my sister, away from my husband, and my sister wanted to make my 30th birthday so special! She knows I love birthdays and celebrating, and I'm telling you, she hit this one out of the park! 

Day Before my Birthday: 

  • Got our noses pierced
  • Went to Goodwill to find a fun dress to wear so that we could take "30th Birthday Cake Smashing Pics!" 

Morning of My 30th Birthday: 

  • I wake up to a chill morning enjoying coffee
  • Surprise---my sister's friend comes over with a massage table to give me an in house massage! Much needed, much enjoyed, and much appreciated! 

Birthday Day: 

  • My sister takes us to lunch by the beach (it's storming though) to an amazing smoothie place! They had fun bagels topped with healthy but yummy treats, smoothie bowls, etc! My favorite kind of place! 
  • I got all dressed up with fun props, and we spent the afternoon finding fun colorful walls to take photos at! Here are some of our faves! 

Birthday Evening: 

  • My sister puts together a birthday dinner with HER friends, for ME! 
  • We have a delicious meal! 
  • Enjoy a yummy sugar free cake she made me! 
  • And played a game of CHOPPED together! Like the TV Show! It was such a blast! 
  • Spent the rest of the evening chilling with my sister! 

It has been a birthday I will never forget, that's for sure! 

MY MINDSET AS I ENTER INTO A NEW DECADE...

Live life in the moment! 

I will enjoy the little things! Enjoy the present moment, even the unenjoyable ones! Take in my experiences, learn from them, grow from them, and not spend my life constantly thinking about what's next, or where I've come from! 

I will chase my dreams, and run towards fear because that's usually where you find your purpose, and find growth! 

I will take in the sweet moments I have with my family and friends! Love them harder, hug them tighter, listen closer, smell them deeper, and just breathe in their joy!

I Workout Because I Can..

Even as a fitness instructor....I don't always want to workout.  

Many days, excuses still rise...

  • I'm too busy
  • The kids are napping and I could get work done instead
  • My house is a mess
  • Kids aren't sleeping, and it will just be too hard!
  • I just want to stay in bed...
  • I would rather do _______, [fill in the blank with just about anything else]
  • I just don't wanna

And the list goes on and on. 

Let's admit it. Many days, these excuses get the best of us. It's come to my attention this week though, due to several experiences of people that I know, whose ability to workout has been quickly taken away, that I GET TO WORKOUT! It's a privilege, a blessing! 

I WORKOUT BECAUSE I CAN!

I remember the first time I had this revelation was in 2012. My mom, sister and I were running the Disney Princess Half Marathon, and an older lady had a shirt that said, "I Run Because I Can." That hit home for us so much. 

So many times, we let excuses get the best of us, to not workout, and yet, our ability to move our body, to sweat, to challenge ourselves is actually a gift. At any moment, our ability to workout could be taken away from us. We could get sick, hurt, or one day be to old to move and workout! 

Usually it's not until the ability is taken away from us that we realize how valuable it is! 

So my challenge for you this week, and this month, and this Fall, is to remind yourself the GIFT you have in your ability to workout!

SIZZLIN' SUMMER SANGRIA RECIPE: 

  • 1 Bottle of Fit Vine Wine-Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2 cups sparkling lime water 
  • Homemade simple syrup: 1/4 cup hot water with 1/4 cup honey mixed 
  • 2 oranges juiced
  • 1/2 lemon juiced
  • Mixed Berries crushed
  • optional: 1/3 cup of Brandy

*You may want to strain the berries out if you don't prefer them in your drink. Use extra fruit to garnish the cups.

START THE CONVERSATION

A mom friend tagged me on Facebook today sharing that her daughter asked what it means to "Fuel Your Body," which is a phrase I use often, and used several times in my news segment. I want to encourage you mamas... use that phrase to help to educate your children on the benefits of good food. It's so important for us as parents to talk to our children about good and bad foods. To talk to them about a healthy balance. To show them how to pick healthy foods, and WHY we choose healthy foods. 

Not sure how to talk to your kids about this without being an extremist, here are a few kid friendly ways I do it. 

  1. First and foremost...SET THE EXAMPLE! They do what you do! And like I always say...EXPOSURE EQUALS PREFERENCE! 
  2. Talk to them about foods that God gave us! Think whole foods, that are natural and good for us. Discuss having a balance, and leaning towards more God foods...veggies, nuts, fruits, meats, etc. and then keeping a smaller amount of Man foods available! Demonstrate this in your own food choices as well.
  3. Give your children a VISION of why we should care about eating healthy or "fueling our body," and why we should care about exercise. I always tell my kids..."We love to exercise because God gave us this body, and we want to take care of it so that we can live our happiest, fullest life living for God." (even though my kids don't fully grasp this meaning yet, I consistently repeat it to them, and one day they will understand)

You got this mamas! Remember, even small changes go a long way! Don't feel overwhelmed! And PLEASE, reach out if you need help or have questions!

What to feed your kids!! The ULTIMATE KIDS SNACK!

It's summer, and we still have about a month of it. 

Are you at that place where you are DONE, you are ready to STOP making snacks altogether!?!? 

It seems that when summer hits, we are constantly just feeding our kids! Can I get an "Amen" from my other mamas out there?!?

So what do you feed your kids?

Many times because of the fast pacedness of our society, we tend to go for ease! We fill up baskets and drawers with pre-packaged snacks, that quite frankly probably fuels their sugar desire (or being more frank, let's call it what it is, their sugar ADDICTION), keeps them satisfied for a moment, then their body starts to want MORE! So they come back asking for more snacks! 

The same thing happens with chips, and empty carbs, and things like that. They don't really fuel their body, they just give them some quick energy that will shortly be absorbed, burned off, and their body will want more! 

So why not feed our kids something that's going to fuel them and keep them satisfied longer?!!? 

  1. Many times, like I said, the fueling snacks take more time to prep. So convenience wins out. 
  2. Sometimes it's just that we don't know what to feed them. 

I understand. But let me address both of these issues, and stya with me because I've got a snack that's going to blow both YOU and your kids minds!! 

So to address #1! You are right! HEALTHY FOOD takes time to prep! Look at the trends of our world! Back in the day, more time was spent in the kitchen, and our society was healthier! Today, barely any time is spent in the kitchen, and our health bills are showing the outcome of that! Not to mention that some of the leading causes of death today are now related to what we are eating! WE'VE GOT TO SPEND SOME TIME IN THE KITCHEN! 

Now I'm not saying hours upon hours upon hours. But 1-2 hours a week to prep some meals and/or healthy snacks will save your waistline, your health bills down the road, and potentially YOUR LIFE! It's worth it! YOU ARE WORTH IT! YOUR KIDS ARE WORTH IT!

What makes these so great!?

These are our favorite go-to afternoon snack, and not only are they delicious, but they are full of healthy goodness. Just a few simple ingredients, and you are getting good healthy fats and proteins to keep you satisfied longer! Plus the kids love to help make these, and they are easy to pack up to take to the park, or put in school lunches! 

All you need is: 

  • 1 apple 
  • 4 TBSP nut butter
  • toppings: shredded coconut, raw cacao nibs, seeds, nuts, chia seeds, cinnamon.
