TRAVEL Meal Prep!

I would dare to say that a CORE VALUE of my family's is to TRAVEL, TRAVEL, TRAVEL! 

Explore, see the world, relax, take a time out, enjoy every adventure possible! That basically describes everything that I LOVE! 

Now I think I have always LOVED to travel, and the excitement of new places and new experiences, and making memories. HOWEVER, when we (my husband and I) both became business owners who work for ourselves FULL TIME, well, the need, and desire to travel and take vacations grew tremendously! 

When you work for yourself, there's not an 8-5 rule, there's no weekend's off. I mean YES, there is SO MUCH FREEDOM which I'm so thankful for! But when we are on, we ARE ON! Especially my husband! He's a hard worker and loves what he does! So to really relax, we've got to take a break and get away some! 

So this week we are visiting family and then taking an *adults only* vacation to New Orleans, LA. to attend the Beachbody Summit! (I'm so stoked) **Be sure you follow my Instagram Stories to keep up with all of our fun this week! (My husband and I will also be going LIVE a lot on Facebook, so keep an eye out for that too!) 

Something else I've realized though, a little trick about traveling, is that if you want to 1) eat healthy, and 2) save money while traveling, you need to TRAVEL MEAL PREP! 

Even just stopping at a convenient store for a snack, or grabbing food in the airport can certainly add up! So when we travel, (especially road trips), I now spend the week before meal prepping lots of yummy snacks and foods! Sometimes we even like to take breakfasts and/or lunch to save money on entire meals while there! And if we are road tripping, we ALWAYS travel with a cooler! If we are flying, we pack travel snacks, and then might grab some healthy foods at a grocery store once we arrive to our destination! 

Then, when we do this we can splurge at night and enjoy some delicious meals out, plus drinks, without feeling guilty or like we are spending too much money! 

So here's a go-to TRAVEL MEAL PREP list you can use!

BREAKFAST

  • Breakfast burritos
  • Egg muffins
  • Sugar free muffins*
  • protein bars

LUNCH

Roasted Grapefruit SPLASH

It's 4th of July weekend, which usually means....lots of fun in the sun with family! And when you are out in hot weather, a cold, fruity drink can usually make you feel incredible! Throw some gin in the drink....and well, you will feel that much better! 

So, in honor of a fun and celebratory weekend, I created an amazing cocktail recipe for you guys!

First off though, let's just talk about why this Grapefruit Splash is the perfect drink for this time of year! 

For starters, grapefruit is in season right now, and the benefits of eating in season foods, (see an entire list of summer fruits & veggies here), are huge!

Secondly, Grapefruit is full of nutritional value, and what better way to enjoy it than in a cocktail!?!

So if you haven't been enjoying grapefruit this time of year, this ROASTED GRAPEFRUIT SPLASH is the perfect way to start!

Roasted Grapefruit SPLASH

Ingredients: 

  • 2 large grapefruits
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • + enough syrup to drizzle on grapefruits
  • Gin
  • Lemon LaCroix

Instructions: 

  1. Turn oven on broil. Cut the grapefruits in half, (cut a slice or two for garnishing as well) and lay cut side up on a baking pan. Drizzle tops with pure maple syrup. Broil for 7 minutes. 
  2. Heat up water and maple syrup either in a small saucepan, or in a microwave. Stir thoroughly. 
  3. Once the grapefruit is done, take the juice of the grapefruit (I use a small handheld juicer to get the juice from it), and combine that with the simple syrup (water+maple syrup). Refrigerate until cooled. 
  4. In cup, fill with ice. Add 1 shot of gin. (or 2 if you are feeling it), plus 2 shots of grapefruit mixture, then top it off with the Lemon LaCroix. (feel free to try other flavors of LaCroix with it as well!)

Is Your Breastmilk As Good As You Think?

I am a mom of 2, and my youngest, just turned a year old! My son is 3, my daughter is 1, and I absolutely love my role of being able to love on them, teach them, inspire and impact them! It was actually in 2014 after becoming a mom that I decided to give up sugar. I share my entire story in my cookbook, but basically, after hearing about and reading about the major affects of sugar, I realized I wanted something more for my children! 

I have always had a desire, as most of us do, to give my kids the best opportunity at an amazing life! Even when it comes to food! I want them to have a good relationship with food, to choose foods that fuel their bodies, and to know what eating real, whole foods look like! 

It is the drive and passion behind what I do! I want to help other women do the same, and impact generations beyond themselves due to the choices they make about health and fitness!

It was quite a surprise to me when I learned that some of the foods I am eating, although healthy, may not be doing as much for my baby as I thought it was!  And, as I sit hear nursing child number two, I can't believe that hospitals, doctors, etc. don't educate new mother's on the potential of their breastmilk not being up to par for their children. 

So I have to ask you....IS YOUR BREASTMILK AS GOOD AS YOU THINK?

DHA is a vital Omega 3 Fatty Acid for a baby's health as they grow during their first 2 years. DHA is crucial in a child's early development, in particular for their visual acuity and cognitive development. 

It's estimated that over 75% of American's are defficient in DHA! Can you believe this!? That means that mom's all over the place aren't realizing the power of what they eat, how it affects their breastmilk, and how ultimately it is affecting their children! I mean, as a mom breastfeeding my second child, this is the first time anyone has ever really spoken to the fact that my nutrition is having an affect on my baby...other than the cup of coffee I had keeping her awake at night! (hello decaf!)

It makes sense though right. 

We've always heard the quote..."YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT."

It would be a great opportunity to teach women about what kind of foods fuel their body, and how to eat well! Then maybe in the long run, this could also be passed down to their children, and maybe, just maybe begin to make changes to our nation's lack of good nutrition!

So ready to hear about my results....even with eating mostly well, I still ranked LOW on my DHA level! Now, before we all start FREAKING OUT! So on that note...here are a few things I'm going to be implementing to start upping the DHA in my breastmilk because I plan to breastfeed my now 1 year old daughter until at least 24 months. (yep, I'm one of those "weird" moms....I like to use the term GRANOLA...it's nicer!) 

  • Eat fatty fish such as salmon or tuna (I never eat fish, so I need to start!)
  • Taking Beef Liver
  • Eggs
  • More Flax Seed
  • Eat more Yogurt or add it to smoothies
  • Take a DHA Supplement (this would be my last resort, ideally I would like to get more DHA in my foods)2w

I am so thankful to know what I do now about DHA and breastmilk. Not only for the sake of my baby now, but because I know I will be having more kids, and I want to provide the best milk possible for the growth and development of my babies!

EASY to make, EASY to eat! Sugar Free BAGEL RECIPE!

So...I didn't eat bagels until late in life. Sometime in my mid-20's I found Einstein Bagel's Cinnamon Sugar Bagel with the honey nut cream cheese! And as a lover of cinnamon toast, I naturally fell in love with this bagel. 

However, I only had it on occasion since there was no Einstein's in my town. Then...when I went sugar free in 2015, it was nearly impossible to find any bagels made without sugar. 

I personally tried numerous recipes, and not only were they all very time consuming and straight up just hard to make, but they never really turned out very well...sadly. 

Finally... 2.5 years later, I have developed the PERFECT recipe! And if you didn't know, most bagels are made after mixing, rolling dough, cutting dough, boiling, then FINALLY baking dough! WOW....I told you it was hard! 

This recipe though is so easy! Just snag up a donut pan, mix the ingredients, bake them and ENJOY!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2TBSP ground flaxseed
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1/2 cup vanilla plant based protein powder
  • 1/2 cup blueberries

INSTRUCTIONS: 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix eggs and Greek Yogurt in a mixer
  • Add in flaxseed, salt, baking powder, coconut flour and protein powder together
  • Rub coconut oil in a 6 capacity donut pan
  • Add dough evening in the 6 donuts
  • Bake bagels for 25 minutes until golden brown
  • Cool slightly then remove from pan
  • Eat right away, or keep refrigerated until ready to toast and serve

I am one TOUGH MUDDER!

That's right...I did it! 

I freaking finished the Tough Mudder! 

It was amazing! 

Felt so good. 

And I feel so proud of myself! I did every single obstacle! (with help of course, but that's what the Tough Mudder is all about)

I love the Tough Mudder because it's all about community and helping each other out! So ANYONE can do it! You have so many people, strangers, friends, and you all help one another on obstacles, cheer one another on, and get really muddy together! It's amazing! 

The Funky Monkey was my favorite obstacle, and the one I looked forward to the most! I wanted to badly to complete this obstacle! It was an uphill climb monkey bars (at least 15), then a vertical circle bar, and two horizontal circle bars, which meant you you grabbed them, they whipped you around in a circle! (enter more challenge here) 

So I worked out hard and practiced a handfull of times on regular monkey bars at the park, but I was confident. The girl working the station thankfully let us wipe our wet hands on her, and I went for it! I made it to the first circle! I went up the uphill bars quick and felt good. But that whipping of the circle bar threw me in the water! 

I was not giving up though! I got out and said... "I'M DOING IT AGAIN!" 

So round two, I scaled the monkey bars (so proud of that), hit the horizontal circle! "yes!" then the vertical! "YES!" and then the last vertical, almost to the platform, and I fall. I get out PROUD AS CAN BE! That was enough for me! I would've maybe tried again, but my arms were spent! 

The adrenaline from that, and the strength it took my arms made the next obstacle the hardest for me, but I was so happy with myself!

So backtracking now, we ate pizza...HUGE, delicious pizza the night before the race, which I highly recommend!

Here's some of our group before the race! We had a blast! We dressed alike, which is fun! Plus wearing a bright color helps you to find each other while racing! 

Also, the sweatbands were helpful! I never had an issue with mud in my eyes! (Oh, I wouldn't recommend orange next time though lol well at least not for first timers, because that's the same color of the first time Tough Mudder headband you get at the end lol) 

My mother-in-law and the kiddos found us at the Mud Mile, it was fun! I also found one of my bootcampers in my year long program and we got to do this together and take a pic! It was fun to stay together and cheer each other on a few of the obstacles! 

Asking me if I will do it again....??

YES! I want to do the Texas one in October for my 30th birthday! 

It was a blast, and running through trails, (fun on their own), but running through soaking wet, or carrying 10 extra pounds of mud, makes you feel indefeatable, and like a true BADA** ! 

I highly recommend anyone doing this! 

Our team stayed together, laughed, had fun, and helped each other, I loved it! 

The hardest part was around mile 8-9ish (it was right over 10 miles total). It was the first time that obstacle lines were long and you had to wait. At that time in the race, standing still that long was not fun for the muscles! Because once you started again, it was that much harder! 

Also, I highly recommend planning a fun recovery and celebratory day afterwards! 

We did a 2 hour float on the river! It was the perfect way to relax after the race! 

So basically what I'm saying is...YOU HAVE GOT TO DO A TOUGH MUDDER!

Feeling the Need for a REBOOT!??

I don't know about you guys, but the last month and a half has been CRAZY! It started the first weekend of April when I went and taught at a women's conference for my church! Such an amazing experience! 

Since being out of town that weekend, I was out of town another 2.5 weeks in April as well. We went on a 4 day camping trip to Big Bend National Park...amazing! I stayed in Dallas for a few days of down time at a hotel while my hubs did some work...very nice! Then we took a mini family/friend vacay to Canyon Lake, TX. so that we could run the Tough Mudder. We followed up that 10 mile crazy, amazing run with a few hours of floating the river! (I'll be sharing a Tough Mudder Recap with you guys very soon!) 

Then, in the midst of all of that, I've been working my tail off to prep for this huge business competition I was in this past week....Oh and I WON! Did you hear!?!?!

So....all that to say, I know I'm not the ONLY ONE who has had a crazy April-May! I know that this time of year is jam packed for people as their kiddos are finishing up activities, and getting ready for summer to start. 

So I don't know about you guys, but I'm feeling the need to a REBOOT! 

I've just gotten way to snacky. I have been over eating a lot. I haven't spent ANY time to meal or snack prep. And even in the workout department, since the Tough Mudder I've been struggling to find motivation! 

So here's some things I like to do when I feel the need to REBOOT: 

  • Drink my weight in water
  • Eat only real foods...no packaged foods
  • Take my probiotics to increase gut health, which also helps to fight off sugar cravings
  • Drink Shakeology for one meal a day, sometimes two during the reboot phase! 
  • Eat extra amounts of green veggies!

So yeah I could do some of these things, but I feel like since it is about to be the middle of 2017, and we are kick starting summer, it's the perfect time for an OFFICIAL 3-DAY REFRESH!

That's exactly what we did last month when we camped out at Big Bend National Park in Texas! We had a blast as a family, and really challenged ourselves on a 10 mile hike up to a mountain peak with our two kids and friends! 

We had a blast! We pushed ourselves, we sweated, we laughed...we almost cried! haha but we had a blast and were so proud of ourselves in the end! 

So remember, even when something seems scary or uncomfortable, we usually find our biggest successes on the other side!

Cookie Cake!!!! Gluten & Sugar Free!

That's right...an all time favorite for sure! 

A cookie cake made with no gluten, sugar, or dairy! What more could you ask for?!? 

Well I guess you could ask for it to taste good....and let me tell you, this one definitely does! 

When I gave up sugar in 2015, it was about 2 years in before I found a cookie recipe that actually felt like a cookie. I know that sounds weird, but many of the cookies I tried making just didn't FEEL like the texture of a cookie. Finally I found one though, and loved it! I never dreamed though that I would EVER be able to create a Cookie CAKE! 

And not only do I...the sugar free girl LOVE IT! But I had it tested by many sugar intakers over the weekend at my son's 3rd birthday and they also loved it! 

I made two of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cakes with Eggland's Best Eggs, and stacked them on top of each other. Using the Chocolate Avocado Icing from my Simply Sugar Free Cookbook. Then of course I had to decorate it so that my 3 year old would go nuts over it! The cake fit the construction party theme! 

Another thing I love about this cake is that it's Gluten Free. I don't always bake things gluten free, but this year one of my goals has been to create more gluten free recipes, and this one is a major winner. 

Plus with the use of Eggland's Best Eggs, which are naturally gluten-free, and contain highly functional proteins, this cake adds essential nutrients that our bodies need. So if you are trying out some gluten free baking, Eggland's Best Eggs are ideal to use with gluten free flours to help them bind together since the gluten is being left out.

This recipe is so easy to make, and is really, simply GUILT FREE! Usually I make one, and it's easily gone by the next day! My entire family loves it, even without the yummy icing and cute decorations! 

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE CAKE with Eggland's Best Eggs

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 Eggland's Best Egg
  • 3 TBSP pure maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter (no sugar added)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar free chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS: 

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • In a large bowl use a whisk to scramble the Eggland's Best Eggs, add in maple syrup, coconut oil, peanut butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Use a rubber spatula and add in baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and almond flour. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add the chocolate chips.
  • In a pie pan, or 8 inch cake pan, use coconut to grease the pan. 
  • Add the cookie mixture to the pan and bake for 17-20 minutes
  • Turn the oven to broil for about 1 minute to brown the top
  • ENJOY!

A Little Goes A Long Way

All and Nothing...? When you read that are you like..."what?" My friend Kori recently started a blog, and it is good! 

Last week she got REAL, and shared some vulnerable places in her life. Read her blog post, all AND nothing to hear her story of struggle. 

Something that has stuck with me since reading this post from her, and something I have used to encourage numerous women that I am working with over this past week is this.... 

So many times we start something thinking we have to PUT OUR ALL INTO IT! 

You get a gym membership and you go consistently for 2 days, then your kid gets sick and you don't make it for 3 days, or you work late and head out of town for the weekend. 

WHY is it so hard for us to start back up. We feel like we FAILED just because we didn't make it EVERY SINGLE DAY! 

Well I've realized my friends, A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY! 

I would dare to say that 90% of the women that I work with get sick, or have children who get sick in their first 3 weeks of creating new, healthy habits! Making it so hard to stick to their plans and goals!
THIS IS NOT COINCIDENCE! Satan knows that when we are unhealthy, we aren't worth as much!
An unhealthy person lacks energy, joy, drive, confidence, and the physical ability to do things! An unhealthy person is more likely to fall prey to the lies that Satan is feeding us!
So, when you try and make healthy changes, HE WILL COME AT YOU to stop you. Do not be discouraged friends! Keep paddling upstream, and IT WILL GET EASIER!

PLUS, the benefits of a healthier you include: JOYfulness, CONFIDENCE, FAITH, GOAL SETTING, BELIEVING IN YOURSELF, having a STRONG MIND, and being ABLE to physically and mentally do things you couldn't before.

So don't think you have to go ALL IN, or NOT AT ALL! It's not one or the other! 

You just do what you can. If something comes up, don't give up. Take care of yourself, and jump right back in, because you are worth that!

Cinnamon Buns for Easter Weekend

Easter is for sure my favorite holiday! And like other holidays, the older my children get, the more I will have to work to get creative and keep things fun, while keeping our health first priority. 

Here are a few ways I plan to keep our Easter sugar free. 

First off, this year my son's 3rd birthday is on Easter, so we will be more focused on birthday celebrations than Easter. Which for his birthday I will be providing lots of sugar free treats like the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake I'll be sharing the recipe for next week! 

For future Easter's though, I will be opting for fun toys and trinkets to fill eggs versus candy. My go-to places for these things are the Target $ spot and Oriental Trading Co. You can find an incredible amount of trinkets and fun things that children love, including stickers, Easter stamps, bunny crayons, and so much more. 

We will also have a ton of fun and boil and decorate eggs using my favorite, all natural egg dye from Eco Kids

My next tip is to be the hostess! That's right, open up your house, have fun with it, and invite people over for an egg hunt, or whatever other celebration you want to have. This way you can suggest doing the egg hunt a healthier, different way without feeling like you are imposing on someone else's party planning fun! You can use the fun treats I mentioned above that are not candy, or even do an award system where you hide numbers in eggs and they get small prizes for the eggs they find vs. an egg full of candy.  

Okay...if you are not up for that...make a deal with your kiddo! This is a new fave that I KNOW I will be using in the future. Even me...the writer of the sugar free cookbook will let my kid have some candy. I'm going to give them a number of how many they can have, let them choose what to keep, and then offer to "buy back" the rest for a certain amount of money per candy. (hint hint...this is also a great way to do Halloween). This also helps to teach your children the importance of saving up, making money, using their own money to buy the things they desire. All that to say, offer a dime, a quarter or whatever you come up with as a payment for the candy that they don't eat. SOUND CRAZY TO YOU?!??? Well....let me just put it simply....my child's health is WORTH THE MONEY! And yes, I do believe sugar is THAT bad for my child's health! 

**If you kid is under 3....just take the candy. The past few years, my son didn't even notice. He just enjoyed playing with the eggs! I think he ate one piece of candy last year! 

So...now that you have a few ways to beat the sugar trap wrapped around this holiday, how about some CINNAMON BUNS FOR EASTER WEEKEND! 

Yes, Cinnamon Rolls are my favorite, and these are extra special because first off....they are GLUTEN FREE, SUGAR FREE, and extra messy!

INGREDIENTS: 

  • 2 cups almond flour (or another gluten free flour of choice)
  • 1 tsp xanthum gum or ground flax (this helps keep it from crumbing, so don't skip this!)
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 TBSP Protein Collagen (not mandatory, and can replace with another protein)
  • 5 TBSP grass-fed butter
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 TBSP coconut sugar

FILLING: 

  • 2 TBSP coconut sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 tsp of coconut oil
  • optional: 1/4 dark chocolate, sugar free chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS: 

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Use coconut oil to grease a baking sheet
  • In a mixing bowl, add flour, xanthum gum, baking powder, and protein collagen
  • Using a knife, cut the butter into small chunks and add to flour mixture. Use a whisk to press it down until the mix is a course, meal consistency.
  • Chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes
  • In a medium bowl, combine milk, apple cider vinegar, and coconut sugar. Set aside
  • In a small bowl, mix together the coconut sugar and cinnamon (optional chocolate chips) in a bowl. *Don't mix the coconut oil
  • When the dough is ready, take it from the refrigerator, and combine with the wet ingredients. Do not over mix.
  • Knead the dough about 4 times in the bowl. (Cover your hands in coconut oil to keep it from being too sticky)
  • Separate the dough into 10-12 small balls about 3 inches thick. 
  • You can press the balls out into 1/4 inch thick rounds on the pan, or in your hand. Cover the flattened round with .5 tsp of coconut oil, and coat it in the cinnamon topping mixture. Roll it up, or just fold in the sides (this is the fun part! Get creative and make them however you want)
  • Place the rolls on the greased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes
  • Let cool and ENJOY!

DIY Turmeric Face Mask

Spring break this year was so fun! My mom brought my nieces, (14 and 10 years old) and my nephew (11 years old) to visit for the week. 

We had such a chill week of just being together at my house. Barely any tv was on, the kids just played, we went to the zoo once, took walks to the park, worked out together, and had a girls DIY pampering day that was amazing! and perfected with a DIY Turmeric Face Mask that felt great!

So here's what we did...

I got all the girls started out with some lemon water to drink, and we continued to drink it all day! Lemon is a natural detoxer! 

Then, we each had clean hair, and used an apple cider vinegar (ACV), baking soda wash to really cleanse our scalp. We left that mixture on our scalp, then put an avocado and essential oils hair mask all over our head and put our hair up. (we left this in for hours!) *it take 3-5 good shampoos to get the oil out of your hair

Then, we used a sugar, peppermint lip exfoliate on our lips! Leaves them feeling amazing! 

Then comes my favorite part! We washed our faces, and put did an ACV face cleanse. First, we put a warm towel over our faces for about 5 minutes! Even Zander did it with us! You could tell everyone enjoyed it because we were silent for those 5 minutes! Then, we dipped the towels in hot ACV water, and did the same thing, but this time propped our feet up. This helps the blood to circulate to the face more, and restore skin cells in combination with the cleansing of the ACV. 

Finally, we took about a minute to let our faces be steamed by the steam from boiling ACV water, and then put on our DIY Turmeric Face Mask! 

We then enjoyed laying with our feet propped up (this time because it just felt good), and put cucumbers over our eyes (because THAT'S FUN!), and layed for 15+ minutes relaxing and trying not to scratch our face as the mask was drying....because it always makes you itch! 

And yes, our faces were ORANGE! We called them OOMPA LOOMPA FACES...because well, we looked just like Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! 

When it came time to wash it off, we used our warm, wet rags to scrub it! 

Then put some ACV on a cottonball and rubbed it over our face as a toner (stings a tiny bit, but is Oh so good!). Then used my nighttime coconut oil-essential oil face lotion! 

We finished our time by enjoyed a huge plate of chopped raw veggies and fruit with nut butters! And we put that stuff away! A full plate of veggies, and 5 apples later! 

Later in the week we also gave ourselves mani-pedis! 

It was a wonderful week!

  • 2 TBSP Beef Collagen (also incredible for your skin)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 3 TBSP water
  • A few drops of honey
  • 3-6 drops of lemon essential oil

Infrared Sauna...what is it? and what are the benefits?

As many of you know from social media, I've been taking care of a messed up back for sometime now. Without a true diagnosis, I've seen a chiropractor, doctor, and now doing some physical therapy. It is starting to feel better, but still about once a week I have a flair up of pain that seems to put me out and make normal life very miserable and on some occasions nearly impossible. 

So today during my PT appointment, I got dry needling done for the 2nd time, which is an amazing practice, and truly incredible how it works. (more on that to come later)

Afterwards, I got to take advantage of the clinics INFRARED SAUNA. 

This is something I have known about and plan to utilize next week at the Abilene, TX. Gold Monarch Healing Center where I work with people who are healing from trauma. I lead them through what we call Charisma Stretch, which are trauma releasing exercises that go deep into the Psoas muscles, (our hip flexors), which is where we hold a lot of stress and trauma. It's a Christian practice where I get to ask God to come in and heal wounded places in people's lives along with utilizing specific stretches, it is incredible. SIDENOTE: if you are local and want more details about doing a session with me, let me know! I LOVE being able to do this! 

Now, back to the Infrared Sauna. This was my first experience, and I wanted to share with you guys what it is, and what you benefit from using one!

WHAT IS AN INFRARED SAUNA? 

  • A type of sauna that uses light to create heat
  • An effective tool for healing and prevention
  • Infrared light has the ability to penetrate human tissue which creates multiple anti-aging benefits
  • A traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air, which in turn warms your body. An infrared sauna heats your body directly without warming the air around you. (source)
  • Less heated than normal saunas, but with the same results, making it easier for anyone to handle the heat, and reap the benefits

  • Blood Pressure Reduction-the heat causes your heart to pump blood fast, which increases blood flow and circulation
  • Anti-Aging-"The near infrared wavelengths are the most effective wavelengths for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin."

I definitely felt great after I was done, and would encourage anyone to try it out. I am planning to continue utilizing this form of heat therapy, and will keep you all updated on how it goes!

Feeling STRONG After Baby...

9 months! My baby is almost 9 months old! How is that even possible! 

On that note though....as we are heading into Spring, and I'm enjoying the transformation of my body after baby...baby #2 I might remind you. There is a struggle in this postpartum journey though. A struggle to feel fully confident in my body, while also feeling as strong as I actually am when in reality, the mirror doesn't always reflect what physically looks like strength! 

Mama's, can I get an Amen? It's definitely hard to feel and believe that we are strong after baby, when so much has changed! 

A few things I've learned in this postpartum journey....(read on if you are a mama needing a little encouragement!)

We really are stronger than we think! 

As a mom, mentally, emotionally, and physically, you are so strong! You get less sleep than most people, take care of everyone in your home, not to mention everything. And even after birthing a baby, you are still able to do all these things. Plus whatever job situation you have going on just adds to the responsibilities that you are rocking! So if  you are a postpartum mom.....be encouraged...you are STRONG, and doing AMAZING! 

That being said, although we are strong in so many ways, many times we are so hard on ourselves! We may be wearing a baby, carrying a toddler, and juggling several bags of groceries, and yet, we don't FEEL STRONG! Actually many times, we are so hard on ourselves we believe just the opposite! 

Let me encourage you though, you are beautiful! Your birthing a baby body is beautiful! Every single part of it! The journey to get physically strong after baby can be trying, and feel long! Especially if post baby injuries occur (like my back issue I've been having). BUT, know that your body is amazing, and for you to change your mentality about your body just the way it is will be a huge factor in having confidence, and love for yourself, which in turn will make you even stronger! 

So take a moment today, look in the mirror, and do these things: 

  • First SMILE at yourself! 
  • Then say this: 
I am beautiful! Every part of my body, marks, skin, it is all beautiful and needed! I am enough! I am the exact person made to raise my children well, and love my husband the best! I am needed. The blessings just my presence brings to my family and those around me is on purpose and fully needed! I am strong! I am capable of more than I can imagine! I love myself, and love the journey that I am on! I will put myself first, take time to rest, push myself to grow, and be the best version of myself for those I love!

The last thing I have learned on this journey, is having a super cute outfit that makes you feel fit and sexy goes a long way! That is why on my journey to get stronger post baby, I am loving the Prana Spring line! Prana is one of my favorite brands!

Results from 30 Days of CORE DE FORCE!

You guys! By the end of February, my 2017 Simply Fit Group has already completed our 2nd program of the year! How awesome is that! 

It's so easy to start a program and not finish it. I am so guilty of that, but having a group that I'm doing it with has pushed me to work hard and finish strong! So...let me tell you about our latest program!

Remember, push yourself to the max! And utilize the workouts from the past several weeks that I've shared! Switch them out, and you've got some great workouts to get you started! 

I hear it a lot from women that they go to the gym and don't know what to do..."I feel lost" they say. So they end up back on the treadmill, which can only do so much! Add resistance, add weights, add energy bursts like what you find in these HIIT movements, and you will see results!

This weeks workout moves include: 

  • 15 shoulder raises
  • 15 deadlifts
  • 10 side lunges with overhead extension (on each leg)
  • 10 one legged hamstring extension with overhead press
  • 30 bicycle crunches

*For HIIT, go through this entire set as quickly as you can. Not resting until you complete the bicycles. Take a 1-2 minute break and do it again. Repeat 2-5 times!

It's Friday again! It's the weekend, and it's time to move! And how about a little resistance with our moving!
